Where would our mids sit ability wise compared to other mids. Steven maybe the 30 th best mid. Doubt there is another in the top 50. As a group I can’t see one club worse than our group baring Gold Coast.

We don’t have that elite midfielder that sticks out however it’s an even group that holds it own. Melb & the Dogs are suppose to have two of the better midfields & we beat them convincingly. If we are measuring our midfield on stoppages we beat Adelaides midfield as well. Just because we don’t have the commentators drooling over a Dangerfield, Fyfe or Bont in our team doesn’t mean we are ordinary. As I said, very even group that holds their own.

Are you kidding?

Talk about selective reading.

For someone who has told us our list is s**t for the last three years, why are you so negative on potential trades that will help us long-term?

You bang on about the draft then cannot come up with one name that will suit our needs around our pick.

So you wouldn't trade Luke if it gets us Hill or Ross if it got us Whitfield?

Our list is shit because we don't draft mids still. There are about 15 good mids that are around our pick, do I have to name them. I like Robertson and Flanders for example. I'm not into it as much now but they looked good. Guys like Serong etc are good, Ash etc etc.

Let Libba work his magic.

Luke and Acres aren't going to trade into a star player any more than bread will turn to gold. If you chuck those guys in it's just steak knives. If a side like GC wants mids maybe you could trade him for something but I doubt he'd want to go. Stuv will get a pick and Carlisle but that's it.

There are plenty of mids that are in the range though. When we still have s**t mids and Bing, then the next gun mid is drafted after our spent pick, I will whine loudly though. And when King is the new Kosi I expect to be able to blame you all for encouraging our dumb arse list managers.
Nah there’s a couple of guns then the rest imo, serong is another midget for example.

Kosi was a gun we killed him by playing him as an injured kid then fate stepped in, if he has the talent of a young kosi where do I sign.

We get enough ball and clearances but the most important thing is ability to put it to advantage in the inside 50. I believe we are one of the worst at that.

We are no where near the top and going by centre clearances we are rated 9th , contested possessions 14th and uncontested we are 12th which kind of shows where we are / bring in a top line playmaker and it should help as we all know.

Yep and they are 50/50 to become A grade and will take 2 or 3 years to impact.

You still haven't answered the last question.

Steele would probably rate the highest now.
Has the most tackles in the contest, and plenty of other good aspects.

Not sure what the deal is that he feels he has to be a run-with.

Yeah, I think we are hard to stop because we don't have a single gun to chop off. We have a blanket of good mids with no stars.

On paper, yeah I'd agree with you. But I think Roma is changing the conversation around our midfield more and more by the week.

I'm not a big stats man but I've noticed with Roma leading our ruck division and growing in confidence, it is having a really positive effect on our whole midfield group. We at least look in the contest and can go toe-to-toe with teams. There seems to be a great synergy building among our mids.

Roma is not far off being an elite ruck and he plays like an extra mid. He has made Dunstan and Steele play with an extra strut lately. What we need is more quality. As of now, we have the honest foot soldiers who will tackle/battle for clearances (and win a few) all day. We need a real top class performer in there and we'll be on our way. It's getting him that is proving tough.

I don’t think we have a big issue with getting the ball. Our problem is our mids don’t have enough class to use it

King probably needs a few years to make an impact you trade once you have certainty IMO.
Trade the off season before you have little need for them is the ideal. You need to know in advance is the trick. Probably a year away from that with Bruce and Dunstan. Not the case with Carlisle I’d say if we keep brown.

Steven is not going to be a premiership winner with us and we’ve coped without him. Take decent value for him I’d say

I’m ok reducing Bruce’s quality with some cheap ruck forward options if we play king as well as a third tall and the trade we get for Bruce makes us better in 3 years time. The cheap options seem to be signing extensions is an issue though

Surely GC identified before the draft that King was a flight risk & with that comes understanding that he’s possibly not there for the long term? If he does request a trade then GC are stupid for not reading the tea leaves. They need to be smarter with their recruitment.

I couldn’t believe it when they picked him.
He couldn’t have been picked up by a better club from our point of view.

Yeah, looking at the situation fully, he's the great hope really as far as developing from within a truly ELITE player. Because it's the elite part that we need, we can't just have a B-B+, we have plenty of those.

Hunter's last few weeks have been outstanding. My only concern is that it's been at half back... would love to see us get a mid that takes to that position like duck to water from day 1.
The thing is those tend to only be able to play inside and as I think it was you said we need inside/outside.

Chances are that type start forward or on a flank. Hopefully that’s what hunter is doing

Sorry for the intrusion but thought you’d like to know (if you guys don’t already,)but saints heavily into Josh Jenkins, have been for awhile now.
Would prefer his mate Joe Goose

In AFL player ratings we have Steele and Ross as 37 and 38 in midfield ranks and Stuv and Luke at 41 and 42. Gresham is classed as a small forward but is our top ranked player. I know you love those things.

I'm hoping that can be taught a bit. It looked like we had learnt to bomb it long to the top of the square as a get out of jail free card under Richo.

Interesting listening to Terry Wallet saying you can't play three tall forwards unless you have guns and that small forwards are more important. He went through Brisbane, WCE and Richmonds small artillery and they have so many more avenues to goal.
