You’re right but but you’ve got it in reverse... he played at CHB at Casey was killing them, the only issue was Ross needed him as a lead up forward & he was no good. Yet another player development issue thanks to (mis)alignment with our VFL affiliate.

Thought we got Markworth for Lynch?

Newnes was my memory. Marky was worse if that's the case.

Worpel @ pick 45 and Scully (never to play again) for a future fourth / mid 60's pick pisses me off to no end.

I seriously can't see why Worpedo wasn't higher rated. He seemed to be able to do it all. I think he was captain at the Falcons, lead like a leader, won contested ball like something out of every St Kilda fans dreams etc. He even had an image that made him hard to miss. I think he must have developed slower than others because he was very good from what I saw.

I asked Knightmare about him and he thought he was just a bit too plain to get excited about, he didn't have many tricks and was just an extractor or words to that effect. He still thought he'd go in the 20s though. He played TAC like he plays AFL.

My point is if both sides aren’t much good you might get any possessions. 60 extra possessions is on average about 10 to 12 extra per mid. Who are these 5 or 6 mids who do that.

I know Cripps and Gawn do great but you haven’t named one mid.

Ps. Just noticed the names mentioned were Warpol and Scully. Not sure how they get us one extra possession let alone 60. Between them they average 46. Obviously they have to replace 2 mids of ours so let’s say dunstan and Ross. They seem the closest like for like. Between them they get 48 Instead of an extra 60 we lose 2. Interesting. This years figures by the way.
Okay plugs... I reckon both would get a game in our side at full strength and the point was that they were absolute bargains.

I thought your point to me was 60 extra possessions. Anyway the one thing we do well is the bargains. I’m not sure you can deny that. Our problem is the best draft picks that should hopefully get stars.

It's almost like you're arguing for the sake of it :moustache:

I wish we could find 2 x A grade midfielders with picks in the 3rd and 4th round... that's all I was saying, strange that you can have an issue with that sentinment given your position on how mids win games of football.

At trade/ draft time we should try and get ruckman with a bit of experience {trade} and pick up a project ruck {draft}
We should be getting the very best we can for every position we can, yeah lets recruit another Longer or Pierce

Not sure I’m even slightly arguing for the sake of it. You said hawthorn do well with bargains that would get us 60 extra possessions. I pointed out it wouldn’t and just said we also do well with bargains. You aren’t denying that but fall back to the old chestnut. People are allowed to knock the club but others are allowed to stick up for the club in certain areas. I’ve done both. Our bargains have been good. It’s our good picks that haven’t been so good. I’m happy to find a grade mids in any round. Might be a bit early to suggest Scully is back to a grade or warpol is a grade when both dunstan and Ross get more of the ball than them this year. Maybe we find a bargain ruckman with a rookie pick. What about Steele. He is a mid and didn’t cost much. Membery cost nothing. Roberto’s cost nothing.

Lynch ran around like a chook without a head when he played seniors... of course Ross didn’t rate him, he had blokes who actually performed playing ahead of Lynch!

Yeah but unlike say clarko, who takes the onfield performance hit of playing inexperienced raw 'headless chooks', for the sake of longer term development (even when fightingit out for top 4/flags)...

- ross always has and always will pick plodders at their ceiling over less currently capable, but higher development potential kids.

Exactly. Don’t get a first ruck when you only need a back up ruck.

Unless the said first ruckman is happy to sign knowing that he will most likely support a young, up and coming ruckman.

It’s a bizarre theory stating we should recruit an inferior player just because we have someone already playing in that position.

Yep why bother when we can keep Longer.

Don’t think so. It isn’t like a winger or a mid. If you have plugger you don’t get dunstall for back up. If only ff can play like only ruck can dunstall doesn’t want to be in the seconds just as Goldstein doesn’t. It’s crazy when only one can play. And if for some reason we played 2 we would be forced to play Goldstein in the ruck for 80% of the game because he is an ordinary forward. How does that help the development of our 23 year old most promising ruck

Billings is a crab. We should let him walk to another club if we wants more money. We need draft picks.

That was last week after he got the shits and shitted up the field. You are so last week Birdy. He just made himself look a $900,000 a year player again.

I would love to see him perform against the better clubs. He’ll get paid well either way though.
Yeah that's his next step he needs to take. Although I don't think he's been bad against the better clubs, he had good games against West Coast and Collingwood, it'd be great to see him have a game like that against one of the best teams.
