Err..... look at your list again and tell me who wasn’t a good player at one point in there career on that list?

Yeah, fair point I guess. I still think clearly all B&Fs aren't equal - obviously Andrew Swallow winning three at North when they were going badly isn't the equal of Lenny Hayes winning three at the Saints when we were making prelims/grannies.

Crouch and 19 for Dunnny and 2 (via compo) + late sh*t pick from GWS
19 for Ben Brown + a 3rd
14 for Caldwell + a late sh*t pick

Massive off season which transforms out team into a top 4 side.
It's a good idea but it's basically draft tampering and I don't think Adelaide want to go down that route again.

What's the likelihood of Adelaide offering us pick 20 for Dunstan in exchange for us bumping up Crouch's price from 650k to 700k in order to take their comp pick from late 1st to pick #2?
Future 2nd please.

2020 1st round draft: 5 x NGA bids likely, 2 x band 1 Free agent compo's, 1 x Priority Pick (#11)

Pick 20 will not be better than 28 on the night, could be 30....

Crouch will ease the pressure on Steele, but I would more or less expect Steele's output to stay steady (if anything, he's probably likely to regress back to the pack a little given how good his season was this year). But I'm very excited for what effect Crouch will have on Jones, Gresham, Billings, Clark and Hill. Jones won't have to worry about being sat on, Gresham (and his bad back) can get off the bottom of the packs, Hunter, Billings and Hill can get the ball with a bit of space and get creative.

A rising tide lifts all boats...

Reckon Saints should prioritise B Brown...should be a good foil for King.

King deep full forward, Brown lead up forward. Also given Ryder's age, Brown can be the longer term forward that support rucks. There's lots of key forwards moving clubs this year which is a surprise but typically these types are hard to get and often aren't available...I reckon gotta strike now while he's not only gettable, his current club don't actually want him which presents a pretty amazing opportunity to get him cheaply.
Can't see that happening - he'd take up too much money and draft picks.

Then again - what would I know - I reckon $350K and a couple of years for Jesse Hogan is worth the risk.

For sure he would have been told. They would need to sell him the future of the club. No way he would not have known that we were chasing Crouch. This won’t make a difference to whatever decision Caldwell makes - hopefully us.

the fact the response wasn't "we have ruled out a move there" tells me it hasn't impacted the decision at all, in fact it kinds of points to us maybe being the front runner?

“A FA offer has never been matched” - the Crows did it with Dangerfield and Geelong.

“I can't see Adelaide doing it over a player they seem reasonably happy to part ways with.” - I think the Crows would ordinarily keep him however it’s the extraordinary convergence of (1) he’s a FA and (2) we finished last that creates the situation.

We want him to go but only if it gets pick 2. If it were pick 19 (ie. end of 1st round compo) then it’s a totally different equation and we’d be happy to keep him.

My two cents worth and I have a soft spot for the Saints and hope you have success.
Probably because we'd be lucky to get two good seasons out of him. We'll all be asking, "Who comes in for Crouch?" when he misses half the matches, and a chunk of our cap is locked away in the dungeon.

It's a lot of faith. I hope he absolutely kicks arse and can stay on the park.

Exactly. He's a pro though, brought high training standards, leadership, premiership player, coaches award, three times All Australian... He's had his issues, but he brings many more avenues of value to the club.
He returned from injury in round 15 and the crow went 3/4 with Crouch performing like this:

Round 15 Hawthorn Win: 27 disposals 5 score involvements, 8 clearances, 4 tackles, 4 inside 50s and 1 rebound 50

Round 16 Giants Win: 31 disposals, 2 score involvements, 2 tackles, 4 clearances and 2 inside 50s

Round 17 Carlton win: 18 disposals, 1 goal, 7 score involvements, 4 tackles 3 clearances 2 inside 50 and 1 rebound 50

Round 18 Richmond loss: 26 disposals, 4 score involvements , 4 tackles, 8 clearances, 5 inside 50s and 4 rebound 50s

Awesome get!

Also if we land Caldwell this will be huge

Give them our first rounder (if they dont want a 2nd) and get back Caldwell and a pick in the late 20's. Grab Tall defender or a Ruckman and we are cooking with fire!

Also would be happy to let Lonie go to the Doggies only if we can land Jack Higgins! Rate the kid highly and is a big upgrade on Lonie (much stronger, a tad more footy brains and can push higher up the ground)

It was pretty clear this year that Ryder lifted our midfield up a notch or two. He improved our clearance work signficantly and it was an area we struggled with when he didn't play. We can't rely on Ryder too much with his age and the likelihood that he will miss games at times. Crouch is a strong clearance player so he definitely gives us a boost in that area.
The way I look at it, Ryder being at the end of his career, and us looking suspect in the centre clearances without him, we really need to look at getting a clearance beast and/or another gun tap ruckman asap. I'm thrilled to get a 26yo gun mid whose performances are on a par with Jack Steele, probably for nothing in terms of draft picks... then at the end of next year we can target a gun ruck... maybe Goldstein, whoever else becomes available.

IF we can add another emerging talent like Caldwell then that only adds to the depth of midfield talent on the list.

thats incredibly encouraging.

it means he must have been informed along the way of the pitch to him and what the club wants the list to look like

One club is attracting good players, the other is undergoing a minor exodus of good players.

I think the odds Caldy will drop have probably improved with this..

We still have Heeney to land.

Another monumental effort from Gags and Lethers coming up.

Step 1: Crouch= Band 1 FS (pick 2), Dunstan= Pick 29 from Crows

Step 2: Lonie to bulldogs for 36

Step 3: Split 36 + 29 + 15 to Geelong for 13 + 18 allows Geelong to have some picks for other targets e.g. Higgins, Smith

Step 4: Caldwell for 18

Step 5: KPD Swap Payne for Savage (Might be keen given birchall retiring)

Step 6: Treloar for 2021 1st

Take 13, 58, 71,87 to draft

1 I doubt we want to pay that much for crouch but that seems a fair value for Dunstan.

2 I don't know if dogs pay that much for him. Look at Butler deal its a similar circumstances.

3 points work but does it work for Geelong. Higgins would be a late pick and Smith it a fa.

4 agree but 15 with something small back also works.

5 no opinion, could replace savage with a late pick.

6 I don't see us getting Treloar, crouch and Caldwell. Way too many inside kids

I can’t see Caldwell going to Essendon now. There has been too much reporting about Caldwell’s management being kept in the loop about Crouch yet he is still actively considering us.

I wonder if they have also been advised about other deals? The lad is likely to be getting excited about a Saints future.

IMO it’s either Saints or GWS.

I reckon tall forwards change clubs a bit these days:

2020: Brown, Cameron, Daniher, maybe others
2019: Bruce, Buzza, Jenkins, Patton, Walker
2018: Hogan, Lobb, Lynch
2017: Schache, Trengove, Watts
2016: Black, Cloke, Kersten, McCarthy, Stewart, Vickery
2015: Carlisle, Dixon, Grant, Henderson, Howe, Jansen, Sinclair, Walker

Of the top 6 tall goalkickers this year, 4 weren't playing for their original club:

48: Hawkins
34: Dixon, Kennedy
31: Gunston, Lynch, Riewoldt

I guess you still wouldn't want to rely on it but personally I'd pass on Brown.

Quid pro quo. It’s been done before.

The issue would be whether it passes the sniff test? Saints would need to offer a late pick back as part of it.

Dunstan getting a Brownlow vote wouldn’t hurt either.

100% there is space for both.
I was told that months ago.

but as I’ve said I know nothing about current state of play.

someone like Ben Brown might change that.

I hope that we can get Caldwell as well, it will be a Massive year next if that is the case.

does anyone know if Caldwell can play on either of the flanks to ease him in. similar to clark spending time forward and then locking a best 22 spot in at the HBF

i guess what i am thinking here, is can he play the HBF for get a solid best 22 spot or even the forward flank? or would it be a case of playing him off the bench? worst case scenario thinking here?
He's mostly been playing half forward for every game so far.

Only small stints in the middle.

Round 18 Richmond loss: 26 disposals, 4 score involvements , 4 tackles, 8 clearances, 5 inside 50s and 4 rebound 50s

Comfortably our equal best / 2nd best mod with that kind of output .. 100% no brainer for the cost .
