The thing that makes it so weird is that there was talk that GC had offered pick 5 for him. A weird back up plan for saints to offer a second round pick for him.

One of the weirdest trade week stories in recent years.

Gold Coast are prepared to take on his contract and use pick 5. A huge win for Collingwood. Stewart Dew admitted as much on AFL360 recently.

Saints wouldn’t agree to that and would want Collingwood to pay some of his contract, or if they can’t do that, lower the trade price. Hence the discount on the draft pick.

If Collingwood come to us it means they have run out of options.

Swap Ryder, Gresham & Carlisle for Marsh, Kent & Geary (or an injured Battle) and I reckon we beat Richmond in that Semi.
Need Ben Long to shirt front Dusty

Couldn't disagree more. The players are employees and should have some say over their employer.

I don't like the American model of treating players like pure commodities.

Loyalty is dead because why should you be loyal to an employer if another is offering better terms and conditions?

Does Rowell owe Gold Coast loyalty? What have they done for him? They owe him, not the other way around.
We have halfway americanised the system as it is and it is broken in its current state.

I deplore the fact that players sign contracts and then with 2 years to go decide they want to go. They have signed a contract deal with it and then name the club they want to play for. The clubs need something resembling some sort of power back. This is why all players should have a no-trade box in there contract and if they tick it they can’t be traded

I don't really understand the trepidation on getting Treloar, we have about 2 million of cap sitting with guys who aren't in our best 22 and will be moved on one way or another over the next year or two.

If you look at Treloar's last few seasons I can understand people's injury concerns. But not over his whole career. He's played considerably more footy than Crouch at a similar age.

Now the dust has settled on another season & the real fun looms with the trade period coming up, still like to see us have a go at Quinton Narkle & also see if we could maybe shake loose Esava Ratugolea. Overlooked in the GF and with Cameron getting to the cats, I dare say he might struggle for games next year. Still has year on his contract, only 22, but is a solid lump of a guy, who/which could help Winx to the max.

Pretty staggered around the lack of vibe on the Crouch get. Caldwell has played 12 games. Crouch is an All Australian.

As others have said he could be our Danger or Neale, taking it to another level at a new club. Must be our biggest signing in a long time. Would be quite happy if we just sat it out from there, will be interesting to see if we have any other moves.
Neale has been a gun since 2015 he didn't just improve when he got to the Lions , playing in a winning team has helped him

A luxury tax is the way to go for me. Punish any dodgy and undisclosed deals with severe draft penalties. We want all payments to be known, teams can contribute 25 cents for every dollar over the cap for the first million, 50 cents for the second million, 75 cents the third million and dollar for dollar from then on out. Include those funds in the AFL distribution values and split them where the money is needed.

Keep the free agent signings, but deduct the draft pick index points from the recruiting team (give them a chance to split that over 2 years).

Give salary cap discounts for players you've drafted. Say 25% of their salary doesn't contribute to the cap.

There are many ways that we can promote equalisation without hampering players ability to move clubs.

They used to have the vet's list. I was a fan of it , because it encouraged clubs to stick with the players who were loyal enough to hang with their club.
Under that sort of cap older players that are still fit can often end up with a longer Career.
No wonder they are all chasing long deals on high dollars now, otherwise they are likely to be dumped at 30.
Under the current model someone like Rob Harvey may well have been shunted off the list at the end of 2002.
With the vet list players like BJ would consider whether its worth leaving given that at his he may well be dropped as soon as his new contract is up, where staying with the saints, he would been only half under the cap.

Re The previous post by someone adding Battle into a trade mix - that's a no from me - happy to add Ross in though

Re Narkle - his highlights that I saw did not show him use his non preferred foot once - I recon you get caught out at AFL level unless you have at least a basic non preferred option - so he was also a no for me based on those highlights

Ratagulea would be a great option to partner Roma.

I wonder if they will need to shed some contracts to fit Cameron in?

Trump levels of self delusion. They have been an irrelevant club since the nationalised competition. Back in the days when you could buy a premiership they stuffed their cabinets with trophies. Now they are better known for their 2 major cheating incidents and still look like they are cheating the cap.

I think you are doing the Injectors a disservice. Haven't they had two salary cheating scandals and one supplement cheating incident, for a grand total of 3 cheating incidents. I would hate that they don't get the recognition that they deserve.

this is the best part of the post-season for me. Followed by fixture release day.
speaking of which that normally is released on last thursday of october,i guess this year it will be delayed some, but will they make 2 fixtures?one for a regular season & another one with covid in mind just in case?

Has Josh Kelly reached anywhere near the levels that we were envisaging a few years back with all the GIFs?

His best is very good but I think people imagined he'd become elite. Injury has held him back a bit. He's still a excellent player. Probably
As much as I'm not a fan of him, adding in Crouch, getting back Gresham and playing Clark in the midfield full time is already a significant improvement to our midfield. And thats all without paying Treloar 700k until he is 32 years old.

We also need to keep improving other areas of the ground if we want to make top 4 next year. That 700k would be better spent bringing a good replacement for Clark in the backline, or getting a bigger body to protect King up forward, or replacing Carlisle if he leaves then it is upgrading Seb Ross in an already improved midfield.
It’s probably replacing Sinclair more than Ross. You have a lot of good mids At that point.

I remember an after game presser where Lyon was totally surprised at how good his performance was. How the hell did it happen that he was round 3 in the draft? Taken well after players like Grigg. ( and Newnes ).

He can't be too bad if he's played 33 more games than Ross who we consider very durable and they started at the same time… I guess the question is whether his hammies have hit the dreaded Nathan Buckley/Hanners level.
