I agree. Why do people rate him? I don't see it.
Think it's more junior hype ....Rachele has a mature body, there's not a lot of upside there ......he's a very good U19 player, but I'm not sure he translates to being anymore than a good AFL player ......I keep seeing Daniel Menzel

Totally agree ....back your environment in

If players are happy to stay in sleepy Geelong .....no reason Adelaide can't have the same attraction
LOL More than half the Geelong players reside in Melbourne don't they? Hour drive at the most to be around family and friends for the Victorian Metro lads even if they live in the Geelong environs.

That's like comparing apples with oranges.

Take Jordan Dawson happy enough living in Sydney and happy at the Swans but the call of home beckoning topped that.

IMO Rachele is exactly what we need right now. We just have a greater priority in bringing in top level midfield talent as that is our biggest need.

I can't see us taking Rachele with 4 and he'll be long gone by what is currently our second selection.

With pick swaps you never know though. I'd love for us to get him.
He is Cal Twomeys early pick for us at 4…

Erasmus looked a bit clunky from the footage I saw, just didn't look quite as smooth as he should.

Can you please link the Erasmus footage you’ve seen?

He was smooth as a freshly shaved dolphin in the 2020 WAFL Colts GF, and he was only 16 then. Four goals, all pure class and clean ball handling.

Hobbs seems like the no-brainer to me. Will likely be the best mid available at 4(6) and is Vic Country. Our midfield mix isn't established yet, no point picking for types that early, just take the best talent.

My personal opinion is Hobbs & Pedlar in the midfield together in the future may have comparisons of Selwood and Boak in the midfield.

We have a habit lately of picking bulls, my only concern is the lack of speed with Hobbs when we have young mids like Schoenberg already

Use to be the case ...but these days of full time professionalism, most reside in GEEL .....and go to MELB on holidays

Not sure if you've taken the Princess Highway of late ....but with all the suburban development between MELB and GEEL, and the daily accidents / breakdowns / protests on the Westgate Bridge .....you'd wish it was an hour

Many Melburnians now refuse to cross the Westgate due to the never-ending delays ......can't be late for training

I agree, I reckon he ticks all of Nicks boxes of team player, work ethic leadership etc

We're looking for speed too though, which is not typically the inside midfielders' strength. Looks a bustling type, I suppose having brought in Dawson we could go inside, but doesn't seem like a need or the best talent (to improve). Surely between McHenry (a shorter version of Hobbs), Berry, Keays and Crouch we have this spot covered?

And there you have the key component of what Nicks is looking for ......speed

Look at all the delistings this year .....all slow inside mids ....Constable this afternoon, Dunstan after getting 11 Brownlow votes

The writing is on the wall, as to what ALL AFL Coach's are looking for ......speed

Remember we have Crouch

If Hobbs is a a slightly more talented version of Berry, then we have to take every day of the week.

If its pure speed/forward X factor we are after would we roll the dice with Rachelle at pick 4....?

Hobbs has been the more talented footballer right through the junior pathway if you're comparing him with Sam Berry.

Look, I have Hobbs as the next best mid in the draft after Callaghan. He’ll be a really great grunt player, gives me big Hopper/Cunnington/Adams vibes. Captain material, too

That said, look at the grand final midfields over the past little bit. We currently don’t have a mid like Bont/Macrae/Oliver/Petracca/Dusty/Yeo/Dangerfield/Pendles/JPK. We likely have a Sloane type in Pedlar, and a Shuey type in Schoenberg, plus Laird and Keays. Really good start, but we need one more point of difference guy, someone that can give:
a) speed and athleticism
b) class ball use
c) height
b) forward ability (inc overhead marking)
Preferably with at least two of these qualities

Hobbs would suit a team like Richmond perfectly going forward, as a Cotchin/Prestia protege. Us? We already have a few that we’ve earmarked to play that kind of role

Callaghan, Erasmus or Goater is still the way we should go IMO. All have their risks, but it shouldn’t put us off drafting them I think. Need to really start refining our midfield balance, now

Excellent Analysis !

Honestly, we're so far off it that our only focus should be quality.

Once we have more proven pieces, we can trade for balance.

Looks like JHF is going to do the testing, pity Jordan Lukac may not be fit enough to test was looking forward to see how he went, same with James Willis. Intersting that NWM is doubtful as well.

Trading for balance is much easier said than done, though. Best to get it yourself rather than wait for it to come to you, I think

FWIW the three I mentioned are certainly quality

I wouldn't be bothered if they were purely Vic Metro & Private School.

For me it's when you get the unholy trinity of flight risks..

Victorian
Private School
Specific family links to a Victorian AFL club.

Callaghan has strong family links to the Bulldogs, and to Bevo himself, and has announced a preference of getting to the Bulldogs at nearly every media opportunity. No thanks.

Josh Ward's grandfather played for Hawthorn, and the family sound like rusted on Hawks nuffies... here is an excerpt from an interview a few months ago...

'For a keen Hawthorn fan with family links to the club – Ward's great grandfather, Alex Lee, played 31 games for the Hawks in the 1930s – there's extra reason to hope his name is called early on draft night.

Finding his way to Waverley later this year – and being part of a Sam Mitchell-led rebuild at the club from 2022 onwards – would be a dream come true for Ward and his Hawks-loving family.

"I hope so," Ward laughed.

"It would be incredible to go to the Hawks. They've got a good, young list now and they've got Sam Mitchell coming in. I've heard nothing but good things about him, so that would be incredible. But I don't really want to raise my hopes too highly about that."

No thanks x 2

after getting burnt by Talia going home to the bulldogs after 2 years I can see why the club might be gun shy

Pick 4 is in such an awkward spot.

There's a clear drop off from JHF and Callaghan, the next level down seems quite even which makes whoever we pick there a bit of a reach.

My #1 preference is to try and move up for Callaghan, if we can't, I'd be sliding back down hopefully to 7 and 15.

I like Goater at 7 given we have spoken about speed and power. I do like the look of Rachele, but I'm just not sure he's what we need right now. Erasmus looked a bit clunky from the footage I saw, just didn't look quite as smooth as he should.

I'd then like Draper/Roberts at 15.
Rachele being a great forward/mid is probably what we need.

181cm mind you, I can hear the same culprits saying "but we don't need another midget" already

could not disagree more. 50% of first round picks bust, higher in some years. If you’re trying to do anything that find the best player you’re sunk
