The question is not about next year, but in 3 to 4 years.

I can cope with short term pain, if it helps us win a flag.
I understand your reasoning.

Being competitive ensures a healthy winning culture.

Losing too many games doesn't assist with player retention and recruitment.

Young players playing finals is the best form of development.

If GC want Lobb then I think they have to move on a contracted player just for the list spot, so Brodie would be worth nothing in the deal and we can get better than a pick in the 20s for Lobb.
Do you really think we could get a pick 19 or below for Lobb? I like Lobb and don’t think he will go but he’s not worth that much or are you just thinking we can ream GC again and get overs for Lobb.

Three way trade:
6,32,34, Clark(e) > Freo
25,27 > Geelong
Cerra > Carlton

Freo give 27, Cerra; get 6,32,34, Clark
Carlton give 6,25; get Cerra
Geelong give 32,34, Clarke; get 25,27

Values Cerra pick 3, Clark pick 46.
Maybe unders for Geelong? We might have to throw in a future 4th to even it up a bit. Brings Clarke down ~38/39. Cerra still pick 3.

I do.

I think we can soften the blow for Gold Coast by trading:

Lobb and our 2022 1st round pick for pick #3 and #22

Don’t mind it Taylor,
But who plays forward if Tabs gets a serious injury and misses a bunch..
Treacy as our only key forward probably costs us a lot of games and then we won’t have our first rounder to show for it 😂

Yeah we are in big trouble for tall forwards.

I figure if we have pick #3 then we can trade that for #7, #15 from Richmond.

Then we have #22 and #27 which the Dogs will bite our hand off for in exchange for #18.

We draft #6, #7, #8, #15, #18

Take three talls with those picks. Best gets a spot in the 22, rotate them heavily.

This is why I dont understand why people are happy to trade lobb.

freo can’t win games without key forwards

Think we're closer to a flag if our young forwards can develop alongside Lobb. They will develop far quicker with some experienced players around them.

Just silly to trade him out.

this is facts, hes def important to our structure and has had good years for us, recently hes been either injured or not stepped up enough. if we can get good value out of moving him on then id take it, might even force us to stop relying on two players (lobb, darcy) to move the ball forward

took 3rd most contested marks of any player in 2020…. Players like that dont grow on trees don’t unfortunately

Genuine question here, I see lots of hypothetical trades where people are suggesting we give up next year's first round. Is there some reason we value next year's picks less than this year? Is it because we assume we will be higher on the ladder therefore a later pick?

Just don't quite get why we are super protective of current picks but spend futures as if they are just steak knives.

The real answer is because people want every WA kid imaginable in case they see the next Naughton player for another club.

I'd bet my house we dont trade our future 1st AND we wont break apart either top 10. If we really trade well, we'll have two top 10 and two top 30 picks. There is no need for more picks than that. I'd argue its actually detrimental to take more picks than that

100%

Teams generally overrate their list, next years chances and ability to spot talent.

Future second and third round picks have far less risk than first round picks where it take out pear shaped.

Collingwood trading out their 2021 first round pick last year turned out very badly.

Not really, it would have been eaten up by Daicos at 1

Tbf Tay's trade idea gives us pick 3 which we could use on Callaghan who is a gun. At the loss of Lobb though? Not sure.

Ok, no realistic trade do we give up a future 1st. The Weller deal is the extreme anomaly, they are going to involve pick 3 for Lobb unless 6 or 8 is going back
