Daniel Rich is probably the best kick in the league and goes at 77%. He also takes a lot of kick ins and with the nature of it where you bomb long to a contest or hit up an easy target meaning they are mostly “effective kicks” you would think he would be much higher. He is probably going at a pretty similar rate as Jones does around the ground.
For how aggressive so many of Jones possessions are I think 71% is a very good return. Comparing him to other players who chip sideways is pointless

Jones is quality, however his errors and they are not always by foot, its dropping a chest mark when under pressure, trying to mark instead of punching the ball out of bounds or an errant handball etc but when he does make an error it inevitably always costs us a goal.. Not sure i there is a stat available for goals caused by errors/turnovers but I suspect LJ would be high on the list, although is getting far more reliable.. and i dont think it has anything to do with skill level, but more to do with decision making and confidence. Liam now fully believes in himself and the role he needs to play for the team and the errors are few and far between these days.

This article states Eddie Betts and Ed Curnow will go around again, whilst Lochie O'Brien has not been offered a new contract yet.

Fairly safe to say LOB will be at another club next season.

So we have a coach telling a below average kick to take risky kicks and he misses the target 3 times out of 7?

Only Sam Frost has a worse kick than Liam Jones. It's something I've thought when watching Hawthorn and us this year and the stats back it up. Key defenders who have played 5+ games this year those 2 and Sam Taylor are the clear worst offenders.

Anyone who has seen him kick must see a clear flaw in his technique. It's heart in mouth stuff.
He isn't a below average kick though.
Our gameplan overall is an attacking one, players like Jones, Williamson, Saad etc are encouraged to break the lines and open the game up - the trade off is sometimes they'll open up the opposition, creating scoring opportunities, at others the ball will be turned over or end up causing a stoppage.
Give me that, alongside a shut out defensively over someone playing it safe with ball in hand and still having goals kicked on them.
Jones is comfortably ahead of those players you mentioned even if the stat sheet doesn't appeal to you.

Plowman is not playing in our best 22 next year if we are serious about a culture change.

Might be a good clubman, but his a liability on field when under pressure, and we haven’t even played finals.

Playing betts again next year to me they still think the list is transitioning -- as all this on field coaching he is meant to be doing is mostly what he has been providing - his output and impact on the field n play seems to minimal ..
if Ed plays on hopefully they will tag with him every week to make up for our thin midfield or we get in another mid and Ed plays VFL .

What's wrong with Saad is that he's not worth what we paid for him. You don't judge things in isolation.
Don't think anything wrong with what we paid for Saad I just think he was not a necessity at this stage and dodoro knew he had us cornered .. gambling on Williams being a permanent mid and taking Saad 🤢then bringing in fogarty drafting some more small fwd mid types in Carroll and durdin is what makes the trade period crazy for mine ..

Nothing wrong with what we paid for Saad.

Somewhat true, but there were decent equivalent cheaper option available at the time, but we don't know if they were gettable by us

The issue was timing, those type of trades are when you have cemented yourself in the 8, not trying to break in

That and we had been talking to his management for a while. Sometimes you just need the deal to get done, or others will no longer deal with you ...

Agreed, I just believe we went too early

Possibly, but once we made a commitment, we sure as shit needed to follow through.

Yep, there's no way around it. Selfless, works his ass off, plays small or tall, kicks long, 1%, hurts anyone he hits.

He ain't the cleanest, but he's a very necessary cog amongst a backline who all want intercept marks and attacking possessions.
