The Western Bulldogs’ first round draft pick is being sought by clubs involved in two different deals as a possible key to unlocking talks for Jordan Dawson and Callum Coleman-Jones.
The Dogs’ pick 17, which the club is keen to trade for multiple later draft picks that can secure them more ranking points to help cover a bid for star father-son prospect Sam Darcy than the pick 17 alone would draw, is being sought as a potential circuit breaker in talks for the trades of both Dawson and Coleman-Jones.

Under a trade scenario being canvassed on Tuesday, Adelaide would trade later picks to the Bulldogs for pick 17 but only on the proviso that the pick was sufficient to satisfy the Swans in an exchange for Dawson.
The Crows and Bulldogs were content with the arrangement, but Sydney rejected the deal as insufficient compensation for the player who had come third in their best and fairest.

Richmond and North Melbourne, meanwhile, have also begun discussions with the Bulldogs on a trade for Callum Coleman-Jones that would involve pick 17.

Under that scenario, the Dogs would improve their points position, Richmond would secure pick 17, and North would slide a few places in the draft.

The Tigers and North have also discussed whether Robbie Tarrant is tied into the trade for Coleman-Jones and picks. While Tarrant is a free agent and technically able to move to Richmond for nothing, his arrival as a free agent would dilute the compensation the Tigers would receive for losing their own free agent, Mabior Chol, to the Gold Coast.
That doesn’t read great for us.

Come on brady, pick your socks up mate.
Richmond have no power in the trade and you're gonna be a part of them getting pick 17 :/

If our early offer is anything to go by, surely it's only a slight downgrade of our 3rd (40 at moment?) the Tigs then package up a collection of their other picks and get 17, then claim it as a win.....

Im not buying that we’ve gone from a 4th to 3rd upgrade, to netting them pick 17 in 24 hours.

Whatever it is, I expect it would involve nothing more then our third.
Its probably our pick 40 in a mix of picks given to the dogs for their pick 17.
Still don't like the trade though given our position.
Pick 40 would be something for us on trade night.

It would be smart trading on Richmond's behalf.
They are getting bent over for CCJ either way.
Best bet for them is to hide the result in pick swaps.
Save face.

We don’t know that and we don’t have to help them with 17. Might have to be that downgrade in the end.
We don't have to help Richmond - you are right.

However if we have another player lined up for the psd then in reality we are in the negotiation game with them.

We can always take CCJ in the psd (that's our bottom line) BUT if we have someone else in mind then I imagine we would take a pick swap from 40 down to the late 40's (which given a few teams wont be taking many picks may in fact move up a few places.)

Alot to play out and would be very interested to know who else we are thinking of walking to the PSD.

until we stall negotiations, they miss the FA window and we make them trade us 17 for Tarrant

WTF???? I hope we have shown zero, less than zero, interest in that garbage above.

I just can't see the third rounders doing the trick if it involves WB. WB would only gain ~250 points from 38,40,42 but it would come with the caveat that it's spread over three list spots.

20 and 28 meanwhile would net them ~500 extra points and only spread over one extra pick.

So at a guess the basic form would be this, probably with an exchange/addition of later or next year's picks to balance it up a bit. Future 2nd from the dogs to us for example.

North
Out: 20
In: 26, CCJ

Richmond
Out: 26, 28, CCJ
In: 17

WB
Out: 17
In: 20, 28

So a 6-8 pick slide of our second rounder to get Chol, plus some spare change (potentially alright change for next years draft tbh).

That’s horrific.

Chol went to the GC.

We are getting CCJ.

Sounds like the following

In: CCJ, 47
Out: Taz, 40, Future 3rd

This isn't too bad really. 40-47 on draft night will be pretty close once a few picks dissapear from father sons.
Essentially CCJ for a future 3rd happy days.

Keeps the PSD open for anything that may break down late

Caveat is nothing to tazz. But keeps tigers happy.

Despite it being the wrong player, I still hope like hell we aren’t entertaining that.

I assume you mean CCJ?
Chol went to GC

That’s horrific.
Certainly far from ideal but it would probably involve future pick swaps between the 3 clubs to balance it out.

Who knows though, maybe it is just the third rounders but I can imagine WB could get a better deal than that.

I'd be telling them to get ****ed though tbh unless we heavily make up lost ground with future picks.

My bad :p
