God to Saint Francis Frank, you know all about gardens and nature. What in the world is going on down there on the planet? What happened to the dandelions, violets, milkweeds and stuff I started eons ago? I had a perfect no-maintenance garden plan. Those plants grow in any type of soil, withstand drought and multiply with abandon. The nectar from the long-lasting blossoms attracts butterflies, honey bees and flocks of songbirds. I expected to see a vast garden of colors by now. But, all I see are these green rectangles.

Saint Francis It's the tribes that settled there, Lord. The Suburbanites. They started calling your flowers 'weeds' and went to great lengths to kill them and replace them with grass.

God Grass? But, it's so boring. It's not colorful. It doesn't attract butterflies, birds and bees; only grubs and sod worms. It's sensitive to temperatures. Do these Suburbanites really want all that grass growing there?

Saint Francis Apparently so, Lord. They go to great pains to grow it and keep it green. They begin each spring by fertilizing grass and poisoning any other plant that crops up in the lawn.

God The spring rains and warm weather probably make grass grow really fast. That must make the Suburbanites happy.

Saint Francis Apparently not, Lord. As soon as it grows a little, they cut it-sometimes twice a week.

God They cut it? Do they then bale it like hay?

Saint Francis Not exactly, Lord. Most of them rake it up and put it in bags.

God They bag it? Why? Is it a cash crop? Do they sell it?

Saint Francis No, Sir, just the opposite. They pay to throw it away.

God Now, let me get this straight. They fertilize grass so it will grow. And, when it does grow, they cut it off and pay to throw it away?

Saint Francis Yes, Sir.

God These Suburbanites must be relieved in the summer when we cut back on the rain and turn up the heat. That surely slows the growth and saves them a lot of work.

Saint Francis You aren't going to believe this, Lord. When the grass stops growing so fast, they drag out hoses and pay more money to water it, so they can continue to mow it and pay to get rid of it.

God What nonsense. At least they kept some of the trees. That was a sheer stroke of genius, if I do say so myself. The trees grow leaves in the spring to provide beauty and shade in the summer. In the autumn, they fall to the ground and form a natural blanket to keep moisture in the soil and protect the trees and bushes. It's a natural cycle of life.

Saint Francis You better sit down, Lord. The Suburbanites have drawn a new circle. As soon as the leaves fall, they rake them into great piles and pay to have them hauled away.

God No!? What do they do to protect the shrub and tree roots in the winter to keep the soil moist and loose?

Saint Francis After throwing away the leaves, they go out and buy something which they call mulch. They haul it home and spread it around in place of the leaves.

God And where do they get this mulch?

Saint Francis They cut down trees and grind them up to make the mulch.

God Enough! I don't want to think about this anymore. St. Sebastian, you're in charge of sports. Who's playing today?

Saint Sebastian Lions vs Bulldogs, Lord. The winner gets to....

God Never mind, I think I just heard the whole story from St. Francis.

Round 20, 1975. Carman kicked 11

He kicked 9 goals after half time when he changed his black boots for a famous pair of white ones. He kicked 5 goals after the 22 minute mark of the 4Q when we lead by 20 points, we lost by 19. It was unbelievable. The only time I saw the great Barry Lawrence towelled up in a match.

At the time we were 4th on the ladder and were pushing for top 3. In the end the wheels fell off and we missed the finals.

Funny because its true

Matt Crouch re-signed with the Crows, dodged a bullet there.

Thank goodness.

Are Essendon ready to give up Draper for Bing? I think the answer may be 'not on your nelly'.

If Ben King wants out, and nominates St Kilda as his destination point then the GC are just going to have to make the best of a very bad situation.

Exactly right. The player is OOC and if he nominates a specific club and won’t consider other options then the options are limited for the losing club.

This is why he will end up with us next year.

If he is gonna jump, the Suns will get a better return than when he is OOC.

So the Suns get nothing for Bing? LOL that's not gunna happen.
The draft is one thing tha I always think there has to be a better way for these kids.

People talk about mental health and then they force a 18yr old to some city in a State he has never been before and basically say they own him for the next couple years and in that time are encouraged , urged to re-sign of course there would be no pressure to do so - joke.
In the mean time if they under perform they are quickly de-listed and sent to the scrap heap.

The way Gold Coast wouldn't let Jack Martin leave as a un-contracted player and forced him to the draft sums up the club , they were willing to give up any value they had in him in spite.

In my view once a young player has served his apprenticeship - say 3 or 4 years he should be given a option to leave with no over the top draft selection picks - Afl should state any player coming out of his first contract should only be worth 1 first round pick maximum and the pick is determined from the position they are on the ladder at the time or lower.
It up to the club to satisfy the young guy if they want him to stay.

Even before drafting the kids should be allowed to nominate if they want to stay in the State they come from or they are willing to go anywhere to get a start in the AFL.
Not all kids are the same , some would find it a daunting task leaving the family home and head to a place with no friends or family for support , I know a lot of team's may take this into account but Gold Coast management had the chance to recruit the twins and keep them together and maybe had a chance to keep them in the Gold Coast a little be longer but no , lets pull the highest rated kids and who really cares what they think we will control them and when there contract is up we will make it as hard as we can for them to leave.

I could be wrong about this , but there must be a better way.

I disagree with this entirely. They're deliberately entering the AFL draft, which offers all teams equal access to talent.
If they aren't willing to move to WA or QLD, they shouldn't enter the AFL draft.

Playing AFL isn't a right, and if they aren't willing to make the sacrifice needed they should find another job.

Marcus Windhager our NGA prospect, is
Now ranked at number 26 in Cal Twomeys rankings. Would be a real shame if he slipped into the top 20 and we don’t get access to him. Cancellation of the rest of the Victorian footy could work in our favour as these NGA players won’t get to impress other recruiters. Anyone see him play… who is he similar too?

At the end of the day Ben controls his own destiny. If he wants to play with his brother at the club he adored as a boy then he will. But he will have to be strong and resist the pressure that he will experience. It’s up to him.

I doubt the Suns deal before he is OOC. That is understandable, they need to send a message that players who play with them are valued and won’t be released early.

But funny things can happen in the trade period. King is also managed by the most powerful player manager in the game. So you never know, but it would be a surprise if anything happened early.

100%. Professional sport is a privilege, not a right. If you need an extra year or two, go play State/Suburban/Country footy, go to Uni/TAFE or get a job/apprenticeship and live close to family as you gradually adjust to adult life.

The system is what it is, and if we allow 18 year olds to be drafted because they're adults, we treat them like adults.

THE only reason we would have pulled out of this is because there is bigger fish to fry..!
Makes for an interesting month
I believe if we have bigger fish to fry it will be next year.

This year seems like the perfect time to hit the draft and replenish. We are well below other clubs in terms of 18-21 year olds right now.

We've got a top 10 pick and two promising NGA kids.

It would be great if we could find a pick in between those two.

We can't be big players in the trade period every year.

He doesn't have to be that strong. Just tell his manager and move to melb. Manager will sort it out.

He remindS me a little of Zac Butters IMO

Clean hands, good skills, agile.

Can play mid and forward

Fair enough.
But someone has to go to try a get a KPD.
Who would that be then?
Sure the club will work something out, The current backline is ok and yes, Does need a top marking player IMO but mids seem to be the desire at the minute so not sure how it will pan out. A few big backmen floating around but getting a bit past it. I think melb had 2 wait 2 years to get May right after he left GC, injuries, lack of fitness etc.

Darcy Moore is a Free agent next year , but looks like the focus is Ben King , even when Moore might be a easier get due to the Magpies salary cap issues, however Moore has had a lot of injury issues.

Good, glad you've got vision.

I'm torn

I want us to go to the draft and get the best mid possible for our future. Then we have a crack at Bing next year.

It's the smart way to go about it, long term.

I also want us to cut some dead wood.

Part of me though wants to go hard after Parker and try and get Bing now. Couple of Firsts and Battle.

Try and strike next year. We've still got Ryder. If he and Marshall can get some games together they've shown they can be a formidable pairing. Players like Membery aren't getting any better. Max looks ready to go to me. And who knows, a miracle might happen and we could get some use out of Hanners in his last season.

I might be dreaming but i wouldn't be upset if we go hard. Might change my mind tomorrow though. 🤣

2 king boys up forward. Higgins Butler and Gresh at their feet. Sharman Marshall and Membery.

Parker in the guts with Steele Crouch and Jones. Hopefully Clark going well. Byrnes and Bytel too.

Backs look solid with Highmore a great addition. Paton back.

Good Rucks.

Call me crazy but it looks good to me.

Just a question, where or how do we get the draft picks to complete your wish list ?

I’d personally sell the farm for Darcy Moore just because I love him. One of my fave players - would look very good in the RWB
