The issue isn’t what was said. It’s how it came about.

this type of shit happens with every club in the league…. It’s just that 99% of the time. It occurs away from the media.

we have pissed the Suns off with that tweet and few other things in the past few years. Hence we now pour cold water all over it in the media (see gags a few weeks back).

but it isn’t a secret when you speak to those who are probably that inner circle of stkilda fans that have that media persona and are abit fancier then the average fan - they all believe King is coming and they get that confidence from the club.

unfortunately the AFL is still very much a nanny league around player movement. Hence the issue.

Yeah spot on, I have only seen one poster consistently bring it up, everyone else seemingly couldn't give a sh*t about it lol. Like you said, he nominates or he doesn't. Who cares. It's being overblown to levels that would make you think it's comparable to a doping scandal or something hahaha
I might add this is the mob who chased Nick Riewoldt about as hard as any player has ever been pursued and had no problem at all making their intentions clear to the press.

Nathan Freeman anyone?

i heard him say "the club thinks they can get ben king" literally within the last two weeks. Caro said it on footy classified. i'm not going to go off and start watching every episode of footy classified to find it.
There is a big difference between him saying that and the club saying it. We might think that but we haven't said it.

I couldn't believe it when my mate text me and a mate in a group message when watching NRL prelim. I don't follow, just had it on, and they were discussing how one of the players was already signed at another club for the following year. Crazy compared to what we are used to here. But at least it's all open and transparent. Different system of course with no draft and the like (from memory).

100% this

in baseball no one would give a shit. AFL world though, clubs and management are precious.

i think for mine the difference in approach in Ben King vs Brad Hill is very different. no one knew about Brad Hill until we had convinced Brad to come to the club, but those discussions would have been kicking off very early on.

You use the laughing emoji on my posts often enough.
Please enlighten me, about what is so funny?
Because you just make up stuff and expect people to believe you, then when they don't you get defensive lol. I laugh at your posts because they are funny, why else would I?

I've seen nothing from the club at any point saying they "expect to get Ben King". And who cares about pissing off player managers. If the player wants to go to a club, he will go there. Talk about a made up, overblown story. Why are you buying into the clickbait nonsense? Just laugh at it like the rest of us, it's a nothing issue.

A few years back there was that out roar that Lin Jong was touring the pies facility mid season.

he ended up staying at the dogs. Butat the time the pies came out and said that’s common practice.

the league is just behind on the times. We have free agency and we pretend the conversations only happen when the season ends. Not that coaches players and presidents have already spoken to a potential player

i honestly think introducing a mid-season trade period would resolve alot of these issues.

i also think introducing a player move bonus (to cover costs + make it appealing for players) and allowing clubs to transfer players without their consent would also solve a lot of issues.

I think a lot of "these issues" are not real issues.

I'm all for the mid-season trade period.

It's only an issue when the media have to fill time with what ultimately is a boring and overhyped trade period. One thing I've noticed over the last few years is how far behind our football media industry is compared to other sports across the world. It really is amateur hour most of the time.

The thing is though... it doesn't matter. It's just piss and wind.

If we are going to trade a player out, it would make a lot of sense trade them for a future pick.

Reason being, if we get past the first night without our NGA players going, we then have value to offer to each club for every pick that comes up without their name being called.

Any pick this year outside the first round has the potential to be gobbled up in points for those academy kids.

It would also mean that if both kids do go early (20-35) we can then trade back into this year's draft afterwards and get another kid this year afterwards.

I just can't see how we get inside the top 20 again this year without splitting picks, so this makes sense to me.
