this is the biggest load of 'first world problems/first round draft pick problems' crap. 'He never had a chance to cement himself'.. the hell he lead their goal kicking and is their number one forward.. he's cemented, we're just watching from the sidelines with a jackhammer is all
Doesn't matter what we think.

I'd suggest upsetting Ben Kings management is not something we should be doing.

Not having a go at Lonie this time but player managers are worse than car salesmen the way the way crap pours out their mouth's

Jack Lonie (St Kilda)

“It’s a bit of a frustrating one. Over the last couple of years this has sort of happened.

“He played 11 games this year. He’s a great player and deserves another chance.

He tries hard but like a few we have , they are just not quiet at the level we need

Younger, faster, bigger, better kick, stronger, more aggresive and confident with ball, more brutal attack on ball and opponents.

I don't think we actually tweeted that?
Correct. His manager has the wording wrong.

Was something along the lines of "Ben if you ever want to come home" with some emojis chucked in.

Which pissed off GC and it appears has also pissed off his management.

We deleted the tweet.

The problem is and I suspect this is where the real frustration is coming from. We've been telling people we think we can get him.

So you've had people like Caro and Llloyd openly repeat that on TV and radio which has then extended into print and social media.

It's just stupid. It achieves nothing. It's not beating up hype or confidence in the club. It's not making it more attractive.

You're just gonna look foolish if it backfires and he either re-signs with gold coast or surprise surprise goes to another club like.... essendon.

So then in the last couple of weeks we've had Gags go on radio and try and distance himself from it stating he doesn't even think about Ben King. Which tbh is not a good sign.

You've had the essendon rumours break. A st kilda list manager pour cold water on it and now Ben King management take a swipe at us.

It was 3 years ago. We can't go back in time and change that.

I think we've handled it pretty well this year. Gallagher actually sounded pissed off when he was asked about him.

I haven't listened to the interview but I'm not sure why Ben's managers feels the need to bring it up now?

You do know we have been telling people this year we think we can get him.

Gags sounding pissed off was only recently.

Good question. Why would Ben's Management feel the need to do that. It's not every day you see that happen.

Managers usually only do that when they're pissed off with something that's happened that adversely affects their client.

Which would be fine if we got a bunch of other picks back that basically value it as 2 firsts. Plus, they'll be very late firsts.

There was some chatter on TR the other day about how the recruiters don't just look at round numbers but break down selections into groups within. Obviously, a pick between 6-10 is more valuable than 11-18 but they're still all first rounders.

Bing for 3 x picks between 15-18 is a steal. Get some future seconds or thirds back and it's highway robbery.

This is true, and it can even be more nuanced than that. I was in contact with someone directly involved with the Carlisle trade all those years ago. We had pick 5. We thought that there was a clear top 4 (plus academy picks), so we were happy to part with pick 5, but we would have baulked at trading pick 4 if we had that.

For the record, picks 3 and 4 in that draft were Clayton Oliver and Darcy Parish (they went 4 and 5 on draft night b/c of a bid on Callum Mills). Pick 5 (6 on the night) was Aaron Francis, followed by Ah Chee and Weiderman (with a bid on Hopper in the middle).

So, I think the Saints were spot on with that one.

Would love to know exactly where the talk has come from.

We've not been saying anything publicly.

Matthew Lloyd always seems very confident he's going to end up at St Kilda. Is it St Kilda telling him that or could it be that he's very close to the family and that's what he's got from them?

SOS is another very close to the family that has suggested a few times he'll end up at St Kilda.

The media love a trade story, it's a great headline, so anything they get they'll run with.

Ben King's manager acting like a douche.

Other clubs want him to play for them. How dare they.

Extend at the suns if it's a problem or stfu.

Based on how much of an **** Tony Cochrane comes across as every time he gets on the radio with his tough guy act I have no problem with anyone disrespecting GC at any point. Bloke asks for it.
I don't care if we piss off GC.

I do care if we piss off Ben's management.

I do care if we come out of this looking over arrogant and foolish.

He didn't day he heard it from the family. He said the club thinks they can get him. Caro said the same thing.

He and Caroline couldn't have been more specific.

Why are we trying to dance around this?

His manager should stick to getting Ben to commit to GC as he has a 3 year contract in front of him, that might be the reason he is digging this rubbish up, if Ben was happy & committed he would sign it otherwise he's looking around & waiting to see what develops in 2022 another bad year could mean exit stage left.

The AFL has handed them so many picks they are giving them away, wouldn't look good at city hall.

He could be going else where and doesn't like the pressure GC are now applying.

Could be a number of reasons.

Either way. His management doesn't sound very happy.

Just for the sake of debate, who would consider;

Splitting pick 9 into two picks in the teens.

Taking one to the draft.

Seeing if Hawthorn would bite & send us Mitchell for the other one.

Add Tom Mitchell to the midfield, feeding Steeley & co.

Still get a top 20 midfield talent plus Windy & Mitchito (fingers crossed).
Tom Mitchell now? F no!
