Would love to know exactly where the talk has come from.

We've not been saying anything publicly.

Matthew Lloyd always seems very confident he's going to end up at St Kilda. Is it St Kilda telling him that or could it be that he's very close to the family and that's what he's got from them?

SOS is another very close to the family that has suggested a few times he'll end up at St Kilda.

The media love a trade story, it's a great headline, so anything they get they'll run with.
It's pretty obvious that it never happened, not to mention I pulled up the interview that Healy was commenting on that only proved that fact and posted it a week or so ago, unfortunately these threads get thousands of posts so it's going to be hard to dig it back up but it's there. All this is is an easy way for people to stick the boots in if it doesn't eventuate. It's pathetic really & I don't know why we as supporters bother entertaining it haha

He could be going else where and doesn't like the pressure GC are now applying.

Could be a number of reasons.

Either way. His management doesn't sound very happy.
It is not our job to "make his manager happy". Aside from a social media kid posting an overzealous, cheeky tweet, we are not at fault in any way.
The idea that "The Club thinks they can get him" - you don't f*cking say. Groundbreaking from Lloyd and Caro.
Our men in charge have been nothing but professional around the situation. His manager is doing manager things, ie being a reptile.

I'm not dancing around anything, just discussing the situation.

Do you have the quotes from Lloyd and Caro?
There's one on footy classified around mid year when caro was talking about the membrey and Ross situation then pivoted and started talking about what's happening at the saints. Lloyd chimed in.

Then Lloyd reiterated it on trade radio not long ago.

Colour me shocked.

I took a stab at going back through my posts, flicked to a random page of my post history and found it lol

Here you go, this is what they are referring to. Anything else is overblown hysterical nonsense.

They've never said it lol, I've listened to the interview Healy is referring to. It was a few months ago. What we need to ask actually is are people really stupid enough to believe any club is going to say they expect to sign a contracted player, haha. It's just exaggerated nonsense for clicks and an unfair but easy excuse to find fault with the club if it doesn't eventuate. Don't bother entertaining the garbage. A good tip is to get your information from more credible sources than Gerard Healy lol.

Leigh Matthews asks him if he's going to be chasing players from other clubs and his response was;

Leigh then asks "Max King's brother?" They laugh, and Finnis says "He'd look good wouldn't he?"

Then they moved on to discussing King's contract and other topics.

And then months later Gerard Healy (who I doubt bothered to go back and actually listen to the interview) says this;

One thing Gerard seems to forget is that we haven't spoken about Ben King unless we've been asked about it. Every time we've said something along the lines of "he's a good player, isn't he?" and obviously we see the connection with his brother playing here. That's as far as it's ever gone. Embarrassing and disrespectful is actually what they're doing - trying to get snippets out of other clubs about contracted players. If he wants to spin it in a way that suggests we said Ben is on our radar then I'll spin it and suggest all he was saying is that he's a talented footballer.

Either way, like I said, it's the time of the year where nothing is happening so space needs to be filled with garbage. Nowhere did we say we expect to get him.

Correct. His manager has the wording wrong.

Was something along the lines of "Ben if you ever want to come home" with some emojis chucked in.

Which pissed off GC and it appears has also pissed off his management.

We deleted the tweet.

The problem is and I suspect this is where the real frustration is coming from. We've been telling people we think we can get him.

So you've had people like Caro and Llloyd openly repeat that on TV and radio which has then extended into print and social media.

It's just stupid. It achieves nothing. It's not beating up hype or confidence in the club. It's not making it more attractive.

You're just gonna look foolish if it backfires and he either re-signs with gold coast or surprise surprise goes to another club like.... essendon.

So then in the last couple of weeks we've had Gags go on radio and try and distance himself from it stating he doesn't even think about Ben King. Which tbh is not a good sign.

You've had the essendon rumours break. A st kilda list manager pour cold water on it and now Ben King management take a swipe at us.
Who cares, at the end of the day bing either nominates st Kilda or he doesn’t.

At the end of next season he’s fair games unless he signs a new contract so all the hand wringing from that shit stain off a club and his manager means absolutely nothing. Might be nice if the clown actually correctly quoted what was said but in reality who cares. Clubs talk to players all the time, managers shop their players all the time and when list managers are asked if they’d like to see a player in their colours of course the answers going to be yes that would be nice.

The AFL pump up the trade and draft period so much that people are making careers out of reporting and speculating on it, D’Orazio on radio just adding to the circus talking about something that happened when ?.

OK, I think that I have finally gotten my head our our pick swap deal.

Under the revised rules, players who attract bids in the 21-40 range will have to be matched under usual Academy rules (197 points) while all players selected from pick No.41 onwards can be matched by their club using the next available selection.

EDITED. Turns out I still had it wrong. :( It is a 197 point discount, and nota 197 point cost.

Yeah spot on, I have only seen one poster consistently bring it up, everyone else seemingly couldn't give a shit about it lol. Like you said, he nominates or he doesn't. Who cares. It's being overblown to levels that would make you think it's comparable to a doping scandal or something hahaha

Just for the sake of debate, who would consider;

Splitting pick 9 into two picks in the teens.

Taking one to the draft.

Seeing if Hawthorn would bite & send us Mitchell for the other one.

Add Tom Mitchell to the midfield, feeding Steeley & co.

Still get a top 20 midfield talent plus Windy & Mitchito (fingers crossed).

Probably not. Is Taranto just more hope than an actual rumour, cause I’d prefer him. Also if we are picking of hawthorn I’ll have Sicily over Mitchell.

Saints:
Pick 9, a future 2nd and pick 62 to Brisbane for pick 14, 18 and 60.

Saints:
Pick 14 to Hawthorn for Sicily

Trent Dumont as a free agent anyone?

At worst he replaces Dunstan as a depth mid but his best is pretty good.

Compares pretty well to a guy like Jones - https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy...2=16&type=A&pid1=3947&pid2=3932&fid1=C&fid2=C

I think North still want him? I’ll have him though.

Still reckon there’s a chance that we get Bing this year if we someone land another first rounder.

Bing camp and Gold Coast don’t want all the noise. GC know he probably only wants to go to Saints and that we’ll pay up so there’s no point in going public tp try and drive up the price because the price is clearly the price - being two firsts and an exchange of other stuff.

I reckon if we can land another first this trade period we might trade 9 and a future 1st and take the other one to the draft.

I don't think we've been telling people at all. There has not been one single quote from anyone at StKilda that has suggested we're confident about Bing. Finnis was responding to a loaded question and answered the way any other CEO in the league would.

A few well connected media types have no doubt been given a wink & a nod & they've run with it (Caro mainly)

Then it's been picked up by the underlings who are nothing more than gossip columnists with AFL media accreditation.

Never underestimate how the media works... they have their clubs that they'll arse fan at all opportunities and others that they'll kick and kick until they get their 'woah, how bad are they' lead.

Guess where we sit.

If it Bing was the brother of a Essenscum player they'd be celebrating how good it's gonna be when the prodigal son comes home. With us... well it's unprofessional and unfair.

Fk em all I say!

Do you have the quotes?

Because that's not exactly how I remember it playing out but I'm happy to be corrected.

I've heard Lloyd suggest he thinks Ben will end up St Kilda a few times though.

Jesus talk about nanny state. Should see the banter between players and teams in many overseas league. It’s hilarious.
I recon if it's one of the big Vic clubs the press is talking up their bravado - the saints are still in the punching bag zone - it will take a period of prolonged success to get us out of that zone

To be fair regarding the “disrespectful” comments allegations about trading Ben King. Gold Coast have been ****ing atrocious with their trading/list management. They’ve kind of earned some disrespect.

i heard him say "the club thinks they can get ben king" literally within the last two weeks. Caro said it on footy classified. i'm not going to go off and start watching every episode of footy classified to find it.

I don't care if we piss off GC.

I do care if we piss off Ben's management.

I do care if we come out of this looking over arrogant and foolish.

Fair enough. To me that kind of thing sounds more like a media management strategy to take the conversation away from “Why hasn’t Ben signed with GC?” to “What are St Kilda thinking?” than anything serious.

They all know the blokes who run the social media pages have nothing to do with list management or recruitment.

OK, I think that I have finally gotten my head our our pick swap deal.

Under the revised rules, players who attract bids in the 21-40 range will have to be matched under usual Academy rules (197 points) while all players selected from pick No.41 onwards can be matched by their club using the next available selection.

As long as the the two NGA's are 21-40 their cost is at most 197+197 = 394 points.

We currently have 62, 66, 67 = 272 points

If our 3 picks drop 3 picks = 371 points = deficit (affects our 2022 pick by 23 points) . However the difference between pick 20 and 21 is 912 - 878 = 36 points and so would not change our pick if pick 20 was our first pick. Most likely our first pick will be less than 20 and so our pick will not be affected.
However Pick 49/67 would be 46 + 64 = 432 points which is enough to match

If our 3 picks drop 4 picks = 405 points = ok
Pick 49/67 would be 45 + 63 = 459 points points which is enough to match

If our 3 picks drop 7 picks = 511 points = ok
Pick 49/67 would be 42 just pick 42 as is worth 394 points. So would still have pick 60

Dropping by more than 7 is probably not very likely.

Our picks would have to drop 9 places for only our picks 53 and 57 to have enough points to match 394 points ( = 415 points). If so our then pick 59 would still be live.
Pick 49/67 would be 45 + 63 = 459 points points which is enough to match

By trading picks now we have gained the extra pick from next year and so this is the benefit of the deal as we would have had the points to match regardless. That means we can trade that pick now if we wish ( Xirra?).

However if on trade night we do slide 7 places we would have retained pick 60 and so net benefit will not be there. This may not happen as it depends where Daicos and Darcy are nominated, and so by doing the deal we have done it gains certainty of having that extra pick and in allowing us to use it to trade with now if we wish to.

Good
I didn't realise they had the 197 point cap, on players taken between 20 and 40. That's much better for us than the 20% discount.

Seriously. AFL trade rules are a bit like this game.
