Aren't there also clubs potentially wanting to trade in as well? Carlton, Melbourne, us for instance

It all depends on each individual club's strategy (although I'll agree next year's top end overall seems to be of higher quality at this point)
Us?

We have some list spots, but we've traded OUT of this year's draft, not in. If we really rated it, we'd still hold 23.

I think a bunch of teams will be looking to exit the draft from about pick 35 onwards, so a F3 should get us back in if we still like anything.

Pick 5 was way overs for Rankine and have shot ourselves in the foot.

As it is going into 2023 we have no A grade midfield prospects.
Rachele and Rankine are both A Grade midfield prospects. The class they both have is wasted as full time forwards. They will spend lots of time in the middle.

GCS did not want next years first because it would get eaten up by their two top end Academy players, much the same as what we did with Michalanney this year, and common practice with clubs with top end Academy players.
That's very strange logic.

The first pick next year would have been an incredible asset for them to hold. They could have traded ahead of a bid, or traded for a player, or traded it for a massive bunch of points, which they'll need.

Plus, it's hard to imagine they were desperate for a top ten pick this year, considering they gave one away for a bag of chips. They seemed to not value this draft highly, and neither did we (considering we gave away our early first and second about as quickly as we could).

I think Rankine will become an outside mid that goes forward and Rachele a coalface mid that goes forward - providing both stay on the park and free of injury, it would be some luxury to have one up forward while the other is in the midfield then rotate

And that's relevant how?

almost all AFL players rarely get drafted or play for the team they supported growing up.

You do realise the club he grown up playing for WWT is a Port Adelaide aligned club as well?
I'm not talking about this year. Rankine, Dawson, JHF have all spoken about going back to the club they supported.

MP says he wants to play in Melb, but things change.

Yes, I'm aware WWT is Port aligned, but that's irrelevant to my question.

Or they takes Tsatas as has been suggested for months now, and Phillipou slips to St Kilda.

Lots could happen.
fyi - check their board out and then look at the hawks deciding to listen to offers for their pick (they were very heavily linked to him) and that we have apparently approached Essendon and they have refused what we offered. Could be wrong but it seems just about every sign points to them taking him.

If pick 5 was overs for Rankine, how was pick 7 to NOT have Bowes?

Maybe we should take more notice of what the Crows have actually DONE, which is quickly put pick 5 on the table for Rankine, and greedily grab NMs F2 for pick 23? We may not be right, but I don't know how much clearer the Crows could have made it. They don't rate this draft.

If we were desperate for Phillipou the smart play would have been hold strong on offering future first for Rankine. He was never not coming.

I think we could have made a deal with Essendon for pick 4 if it came to it, and Phillipou caught wind he could stay in SA.
Yes, if we were desperate for Phillipou, we should have done that.

Maybe that's true and they don't rate Phillipou. Who knows.

They already have plenty of 2023 points...just like their head recruiter said in his interview with Twomey and Beveridge yesterday...

Crows looking to trade back in for Phillipou. Have already been offers made and offers rejected.
Thankyou

With offers being made and rejected, will we continue to put different offers on the table until pick 4 on draft night is on the clock or have Essendon told us exactly what they want in order to trade 4 and we realistically can't afford it?

So why did Suns never play Rankine in the middle then?
Probably because he didn't have the tank after spending his first year solely in the treatment room and a goodly part of his 2nd year in there.

This superiority complex you have at the moment is getting old, at least TAFKATMS is actually answering questions and not making a snide comment every time.
What rubbish, of course Phillipou has been our target all along, Barnett if a deal can't get done for Phillipou if it's within the range we rate him and we can find a buyer.

Re: the trading of 23 - aren’t the Dogs rumoured to be interested in MM? If that ends up happening, our 23 would’ve been totally wiped out

Makes sense to trade it into where points can’t be taken from us, then trade back in if the opportunity arises. If not, we should have a strong early 20’s pick in a strong draft
