We're in the definite top 5, and Cadman pushed up into it once it was clear GWS or NM were definitely taking him.

Phillipou had been around the bottom of the top ten, and only pushed up in some early phantoms because we had the pick.

Look at the JHF deal - they seemed short on what was needed yet somehow they pulled it off

Given they used this and next year's R1 picks .....PORT's only other option was to trade a player like Georgiadis ....however they would have to secured West Coast's #2 .....Georgiadis and pick #8 for #2 ......but still leaves JHF out in the cold

So, I'm saying given PORT's committment to JHF and Rioli .....Phillipou was an impossible get

No, YOU'RE slow on the uptake.

Reid couldn't trade pick 5 fast enough, even when though it seemed like it could get Phillipou.

The asset that could get Phillipou - he couldn't have gotten rid of it any quicker.

Did he explore other options? There's no evidence he did - he was openly telling the media they were using pick 5 from moment one.

He made ZERO efforts to keep the asset to get Phillipou, and traded it as quickly as humanly possible.

Of course they wanted Rankine - but they wanted to use pick 5 on him even more.

They didn't want Phillipou enough to even pretend that they were trying to keep the pick.

Oh, I really rate what you post.

I just have direct sources that backed up what Volbeat said, and watching what we've done, there seems very little interest in getting Phillipou.

I know you've heard that we've offered a F1 and NM F2, but I just can't see how Essendon could rationally turn that down if it was offered, and I can't see how we could be offering that now when it contradicts how we've behaved in the trade period.

I would understand it if it was a bit of an ambit offer, so that Phillipou's family see us trying and we keep them onside.

It just seems crazy to actually do that, after what we've done regarding the 2022 draft previously.

Still, I guess clubs have done stranger things?

Didn't PORT trade out their pick #8 in similar circumstances to us, for JHF .....thus giving up all chance to get Phillipou

So it seems both Clubs have gone the bird in the hand approach

Just on this, I wonder if Port not having any picks inside the top 30 this year and next really made it a lot easier for us to live with a pick in the 20 to 30 range this draft and or a couple in that range next draft, given we'll have no competition for SA talent from another club that has the max intel on SA players. We can do what we've been doing with the victorian kids (Berry/Soligo), just sit back and pick up the SA pick 20-30 bargains. Already think Schoenberg and Cook fall into this category.
