I've never meant to be disrespectful to you.

I know that Volbeat's source was sitting in the draft room that night, and I've felt all along our actions made it clear that we weren't THAT desperate to get Phillipou, such as our eagerness to put pick 5 on the table. That's why I always felt there was some truth in us having reservations about Mattaes.

Maybe that changed, or maybe we felt a future pick was still worth it, if that made it happen.

I guess it's impossible to know - the only actual facts we have is that we got Rankine and didn't get Phillipou.
And we know who Volbeat's source was now too...Reckon that source might have changed his mind when he actually met the lad in person?

We offered a first and a second. If Volbeat was here he'd confirm that, but he's not. Wonder why??

Almost ready to block you, like talking to a child.
My post was meant to be joking - Bicks had a dig at me admitting I was wrong, so I was just having a dig back. I'm not really trying to have a genuine go at him or you.

I know that you both are being very honest in passing on what you've heard.

I know his source. My source was also in the draft room.

Reid may have thought there were some "flags" early on but once he'd met the player that position clearly changed.

Reid made the offer, it wasn't enough.

Did he make the same offer to the Saints, F1, North F2?

Well, we know from what Twomey said that what you and Metric System were saying is wrong.

We only offered a first, nothing more, and even then we don't know if we wanted anything else back. We DO know we weren't offering any more ourselves.

Just admit that you and Metric were wrong and got over excited. ;)
I’d suggest you read the article again …… with other clubs it mentions the exact offer on the night and with us it mentions a future 1st rounder being part of the discussion but doesn’t mention the exact offer

You’ve been miles off the whole time and are now nitpicking in a lame attempt to cover yourself but it’s not working

Do the two sources know they are two sources working against each other and the conflict they’ve created, I wish everyone would just get along

I must have read the wrong article. I said Adelaide had offered a F1 and (NM) F2 to Essendon for their pick 4.

Where in the article is that refuted aside from mentioning that we offered a F1?

Exactly one week before the draft Justin Reid called Dodoro and offered the F1 and NM F2 for pick 4. Dodoro said it was not enough. I'm not sure we had too many options up our sleeve after that.

I’m saying that old Bicks and co. Got a little carried away.

The article indicates we had a little flutter but hardly the voracious at all costs assurances some insisted on.

That we had a dip is fine, but it also looks like we were priced out quickly and left it there

Our lead up meetings and talk suggest we didn't think it was a little flutter. Unfortunately Dodoro treated it as such.

Settle down, Jeff. It mentions the details for the Sydney and Bulldogs offers because they involved 2022 picks.

"Adelaide, meanwhile, had discussed with clubs inside the top 10 about using a future first-rounder, subject to a player being available."

If we also put an additional pick on the table that was a close as anything to an additional 1st round pick (the NM F2), then you can bet your house on the fact that Twomey would report it.

He clearly didn't hear it, and we can't know if that means something was held back from him (unlike the other offers) or we didn't offer it.

I think there was absolute truth to Volbeat's reports that we thought there were red flags.

He said that well before the media started reporting about some of the clubs mixed responses to Phillipou's interviews.

That doesn't mean we didn't change our minds with subsequent conversations, so I can see how that could work.

Pity Reid didn't work harder to keep 5 in that case ...

We as in one person who had not spoken to the the lad in person at the time of passing the comment?

Say Reid did make the offer.
That's two years, and a full rebuild, he has been unable to get a bonafide top end midfield talent.

That's frustrating.

Soligo looking pretty bloody good to my eye.....where would you have him now if that draft was today?

Im very happy we have Soligo. But he's not a JHF, Cripps, Bont, Danger, Oliver, Petracca, Martin, Anderson, etc type.

If we are to win a flag I believe we need one.

Soligo I would say 10-15 if draft was redone. Very good still.

Our future first rounder is the main part of a possible deal. Makes perfect sense to report it like that.

They have done it deliberately to take the piss out of some on this board... ;)

Once we were relying on Dodoro, it was never a realistic opportunity! ;)

It's why I said prior to draft night I was confident we would not be trading back into the 1st round.

St Kilda and Essendon both need exactly what we need. If I supported those clubs I'd be hating life, but also would be very disappointed if they didn't take an elite midfielder when presented the opportunity
Tsatas and Phillipou are better midfield prospects than anyone on our list.
Soligo, Berry, Schoenberg, maybe Rachele are good but not likely to ever be in that conversation.
