We don't need mids, we're stacked in that department.
At what point do we try and get back into the first round this year?

How far does Phillipou slide for us to try and come in with a trade using next year’s first?

Where will that 2023 pick land, would have to be top 10.

If he is still there at pick 8 or 9 do we try?

Or is next year’s first worth more to us than an SA first round mid?

It's interesting.

I would have been happy picking Phillipou at 5 and trading the '22 and '23 2nd rounders for Rankine.

If we can trade in and get Phillipou we could be paying that exact price for these two.

If we were dead keen on Phillipou you'd imagine that was the course of action we would have taken (or at least offering our future first for Rankine), which makes me wonder whether there was some weight to the rumours mentioned by Volbeat that he had some major red flags

TAFKATMS said it was bullshit that's good enough for me.

Gee he presented and tested well at combine

Hard to know what the red flags would be , good pedigree and all

Reckon volbeat was more saying he had some flags, not necessarily red ones. Things that needed to be investigated further that may turn into red ones or may disappear altogether after the investigation.

Pick 23 I'm going for Isaac.
He can play ruck, forward and gets the ball and runs.
I think our mids department isn't that bad and it's easier to draft a decent mid than a player like Isaac.
Maybe get hold of his result from the 2km time trial before you get too excited...

Well that begs the question why didn't we do a future 1st at Rankine?

It's 7pm 12/10/2022 in the final minutes of the trading deadline, do you honestly think Gold Coast don't take it for Rankine?

Phillipou fills a need for us, as a big bodied mid, which our list management team have explicitly mentioned we're looking for (along with outside speed and support behind the ball)

We had a pick directly in that range which would have been perfect for him. Sure we have some issues with list numbers but they couldn't possibly be insurmountable.

An opportunity to bring in Rankine AND Phillipou + Keeler/Michalanney, and thus accelerating the rebuild by getting 2 premium players in this year as opposed to going to the draft next.

Something seems off to me.

You think that list management didn't involve Hamish and his team in their discussions around pick 5 in this draft.

Rankine was always going to require pick 5, only the nuffies thought otherwise.

Explosive speed is better than endurance for his position.
It is but Isaac doesn't possess explosive speed either.

You don't think physicality and aggressiveness are also important in Forward/Rucks?

His efforts at the Nationals against his peers were really quite underwhelming also.

I presume they have more confidence in the top group of draftees in 2023 otherwise they would have made Phillipou happen. My concern is that unless we trade up to a higher pick next year, presuming we finish the 2023 season in a similar ladder position, we will not be able to draft a genuine potential elite mid.
You are correct in remembering quotes from various Crows personnel during this year categorically stating a big bodied athletic mid was their priority, however as soon as Rankine became a probability I noticed the language changed.
I still laugh at the memory of Nicks saying at end of season that he was completely happy with the current squad when asked what type of player(s) they need to improve further. Bizarre!!

Success of picking key forwards early in draft and recruiters’ view of top choice Aaron Cadman

North Melbourne is set to secure arguably the best two players in this year's draft, with most clubs understood to not have key forward Aaron Cadman ranked as the No.1 talent in the open draft

Some clubs do not have Cadman ranked in their top seven players (including Ashcroft) and think using the No. 1 pick on him would be a stretch.

The concerns on Cadman centre around his contested marking and how he will adapt to AFL when there's no anti-density rule.

Suddenly the likes of Tom Stewart will be flying across packs as third man-up, whereas this year Cadman has had oodles of space to work with

As St Kilda list boss James Gallagher said: “Typically your gun midfielders, your champion and your star midfielders, come in the first four, five, six picks of the draft”.

And there's your answer, Cadman has said repeatedly he has absolutely no qualms about moving interstate and in fact he's said he'd welcome it if that was to happen....Vic Country boy unlike all the other top end picks who are all Vic Metro/Private school lads. Pretty obvious the Giants recruiters have gleaned there are grave concerns about the flight risk involved with them...Harry Sheezel especially with his family's strong involvement in the Melbourne Jewish community always had red flags in that regard.

Finally someone has said publically what everyone already knew.

this is my point too
rather than phillipou we should be trying to get higher up in next years draft now so it doesnt cost three first round picks

its pretty obvious who is getting pick 1 and 2 next year

why did they move up to 1 to get him?
Because as I understand, NORTH and WCE are also looking for a KPF .....which begs the question, why would NORTH give away yet another KPF in the Draft ???

Not going Logan McDonald, instead of Will Phillips, is yet again NORTH just making horrible choices

they dont like tall forwards
we dont like tall mids

🤣🤣🤣

Harley Reid and who?

Agree Reid is the standout. But I have heard they are very very very keen on Moir. Yes I know another small / mid forward.

Reid is the one we need
We sure do but Moir isn't small though, he's already 186cm and 78kg.
