Y’all ain’t even taking about the biggest miss on his board, Jhye Clark at 19.

Clark is just about the easiest home run a club is ever going to get, and I’ll be shocked if teams aren’t super keen on him.

The only reason he may not go top 3 in this draft is the quality of top end mids and perceived upside of some other mids.
Yeah big fan of Clark

Have had a fair bit of time at home recently, started to catch up on footage. Exciting pool all around. Lots of things to like out of names i dont really know yet

Inside Mid (No flankers)
Small Forward (Gray too old, Motlop and McEntee not good enough, Fantasia too many injuries)
Key Defender (Jonas and McKenzie old, Pasini out with an ACL, Skinner not improving)

I think I would outline our needs as

- key defender

We have Jonas, clurey, McKenzie Alir on the list, most of those guys are right at the very end.

With pasini developing.

It’s clearly our number 1 need

- small / medium forwards

The only natural forward in our 22 right now would be gray, with motlop more a high half forward. Outside of that we have Williams who is still up in the air whether he makes it. We have a desperate desperate need for actual forwards. Right now we are reliant on our talls and most of the players in our front half are mids / defenders shoehorned into forward roles, and it shows with the real lack of ability to turn our kfs presence into easy goals for other players regularly

- inside / outside clearance mid who can exit stoppages with the ball

We’re getting spanked in the midfield this year. Boak is on his last legs, wines has transitioned into more a run and spread mid than an inside beast even before this year but now his clearance numbers are down even further. Drew hasn’t taken that next step to be our number 1 clearance mid.

Rozee and butters have shown they are elite mids but we’re having trouble converting thet into regular dominance, they are both injury prone.

Basically we need a Boak replacement to slot in alongside them.

I think those are the clear standout needs by a long shot. Nothing else comes close.

I would argue that you always pick up kfs when a good one is available at your selection.

I do think we absolutely need another kf to partner Marshall and Georgiades going forward, and they type should be a taller second ruck type. Having said that bringing in finlayson gave us more time to unearth that player, and the development of lord means there’s a chance we’ve already found that player. Also having Dante and teakle helps

Having said all that …

You can’t go into drafts saying you HAVE to draft player type x. It leads to reaching.

You have to take the players who you think are the best chance to make it..

But identifying the players who can make it, and who fill needs is important and something we can and should do.

This draft has players who can fill our needs

I would look closely at Kye Roberts with a late pick. Yes he's another hbf but he showed genuine footy toughness and composure in his first sanfl game at Elizabeth on the weekend.

Will be good to see him develop over the year with more games at the Magpies.

Don't know about drafting him, but after his first possession was a bit dodgy and he got pummelled and I thought the kid might break in two, he hit every contest in the 1.5 quarters I saw with gusto and I don't think he made a disposal error in that period of the game I saw. i want to see a bit more of him but the bit I saw i liked.

For those who don't know how we got Kye, its part pf a special SANFL initiative to give kids a 2nd chance to get drafted. When he's not playing with us, he goes back to Westies.

A new SANFL initiative is giving hope to young players overlooked in the draft with one already getting the opportunity to train with the AFL side at Alberton.

Kye Roberts had expected to line up with West Adelaide in the SANFL in 2022 but has instead signed with Port Adelaide as a SANFL contracted player after a special arrangement between the clubs. Under the SANFL’s rookie program, Roberts will go back to play for the Bloods if not selected for the Magpies. The 18-year-old also gets to train with Port Adelaide’s AFL side once per week to help with his development.

He told portadelaidefc.com.au he didn’t have to think twice about taking up the opportunity when it arose.o help with his development. “One night I went to West Adelaide training and Brad Gotsch, my senior coach at West Adelaide, pulled me aside and just told me Port Adelaide had contacted him and obviously this opportunity was hard to turn down,” Roberts explained. “He told me to go away and think about it, so I did that, but I knew straight away what I was going to do. “I’m really grateful that the SANFL has allowed me to do this because I get this great opportunity to come out here with the more experienced blokes.”

The SANFL’s initiative is targeted at players turning 19 or 20 overlooked in their draft year, allowing them to train and play with Port Adelaide or the Crows to aid their development and give them the best chance of having their name called in the following year.

If not, the hope is that they will return to their SANFL club as a ready-made league player.Roberts said he had not lost hope of playing AFL football despite missing out in the 2021 draft. ......................

Good initiative. Won't be expecting too many players from Gleneg, Norwood, Sturt and North.

So what’s happened to Scully? His numbers looked solid, although I appreciate the tall kid beating up on short kids aspect. His hands seem good and his attack on the ball seems fine. Kicking style ok.

Has something happened to him?
