Without question that we wasted our time, however, I doubt we wasted his.

After all, at least Brett can now say he was on an AFL list, and I assume there are some additional perks with being in that environment for a few months that he wouldn't had access to at Glenelg.

He would have been paid tens of thousands for his 6 month stint. I believe mid-season picks that aren't retained get a $20,000 payout on top of their rookie list deal

C'mon, that's not true.

They're winning an SANFL flag for the 150 people that turn up?

If nothing else, they don't want to win because they don't want the SANFL being vindictive with them in the future. Self interest said they don't want to win.

I think they planned to keep Turner, but they also planned to trade Crouch, Sholl and others. Plans changed as circumstances did
Part of the sales pitch that the rebuild is "on track" was the success of the SANFL side.

Adelaide - O'Brien - Developed
Brisbane - McInerney - Developed / Fort (traded)
Carlton - De Koning - Developed (Pittonet traded but see DK as they're future)
Collingwood - Cameron (traded)
Essendon - Draper - Developed / Phillips (traded)
Fremantle - Darcy (Developed) / Jackson (traded)
Geelong - Blicavs (Developed / Stanley - traded)
GC - Witt's (traded)
GWS - Preuss (traded) / Flynn (developed)
Hawthorn - Reeves (Developed) / McEvoy (Traded) / Lynch (traded)
Melbourne - Gawn (Developed) / Grundy (traded)
North - Goldstein (Developed) / Xerri (developed)
Port Power - Lycett (traded) / Hayes (Developed)
Richmond - Nankervis (traded)
St Kilda - Marshall (developed) / Ryder (traded)
Sydney - Hickey (traded) / Ladhams (traded)
West Coast - NicNat (Developed) / Williams (Developed)
Dogs - English (Developed)

11/18 Clubs developed their own ruckman with possibly Port and Geelong adding to that number in the next 12-18 months.
I've added a few more for completeness those who have played a significant portion last year or will this year.

Developed: 16
Traded: 15

Suggests there's no right or wrong way to go about it.

Majority of those youve added aren't the number one ruck, or have retired so doesn't really reflect the actual conclusion.
The current numbers (mine) show that most clubs are developing their own number one ruck.

The difference is the vast majority of other clubs have given themselves a chance of using either option, develop their own ruck and trade. We have effectively decided to rule out one of those options and are now stuck with a trade.

Doesn’t it concern you that we’ve practically gone it alone in limiting our options?

Unless of course by some miracle we decide next year will be the first year since 2014 we’d draft a developing ruckman.

Developing is so hit and miss though. Look at Port last year. Have a first rounder developing for a few years - and then when Lycett went down they hardly played him and went makeshift options instead

Not the highest priority I don’t think. What I did like about Barnett is he has shown a bit as KPD so that would have been nice for an option

Well we can’t hit though can we if we are not in the game?

And all draftees are hit and miss, do we cancel the draft?

Hey ROB showed a bit in the TAC Cup at CHB as well. Weve never tried him there though in SANFL or AFL

Yeah not sure i'd wanna see ROB picking up Buddy, Jez or a King brother 😬
Did a decent shut down job on the very athletic Darcy Moore (2 goals) in a TAC Cup Final who just happened to be considered the best KPf prospect in the land at the time.

Well, if we go back to last year, only looking at #1 ruck...Marshall hardly played ruck until the end of the year, and Blivcas was only ruck when Stanley was injured.

You're right, 10 developed, 8 traded in. Conclusive evidence!

Didn't people on here a few years back find Reilly O'Brien's Twitter likes? Hardly a secret he's into that community
