Reid's turned the ol' 50 games into 80!!!
We would have been in a world of trouble if he hadn't agreed to retirement.Brown was a surprise though, he only decided not to play on this year toward the end of the season. That gave us an extra spot.
How could we get a read on Turner then?
Not the slighest clue if this Nick Daicos kid is going to make it. Needs another 60 games before we can properly judge.
WTF ? , guess you would like a nice retirement plan to go with this Mr Setka.I’ve long thought the AFLPA needs to insist on a rule that players can only be delisted when they have played a minimum 65 senior games
He’s taking the pissWTF ? , guess you would like a nice retirement plan to go with this Mr Setka.
Lawrence Angwin would still be on our list
Its an interesting one as in the NBA they have short term contracts (10 days from memory) and it is an opportunity for a player to be involved at the highest level. Sure turner seems to have been strung along but the flip side is he has had a chance to join an AFL club and put his wares on show to them. That its been deemed not enough is unfortunately part of the business if better players present for cherished list spots.Given Turner was still training with us last Monday, we’ve essentially chosen Bond over Turner.
Annoying thing is Turner would be a better AFL contributor for us this year and beyond than several players still on our list (Crouch, Seedsman, McPherson, McAsey, Borlase).
pre coffeeHe’s taking the piss
Maybe clubs should get a cat B rookie spot for a mature aged rookie such as Turner.Given Turner was still training with us last Monday, we’ve essentially chosen Bond over Turner.

We overlooked Jack Hayes last year. He would have easily been a regular in our team last season.Maybe clubs should get a cat B rookie spot for a mature aged rookie such as Turner.
For a 25 year old it's harder to uproot yourself, leave what is possibly an established career, mortgage, etc. The last thing you want is to do that only to get delisted three months later. Having a free list spot might get more older guys onto an AFL list.
Or the AFL could just go back to pre-Covid list sizes.
Tex,, Fog, TT not sure who he would replaceWe overlooked Jack Hayes last year. He would have easily been a regular in our team last season.

Jack Hayes is a pure utility player. Pinch hit ruck, Defense and attack. Like a Billy F except good. As good a mark as you get at SANFL level. His form until injured at SK proved that.Tex,, Fog, TT not sure who he would replace
I don't think it was deemed he wasn't good enough, he was probably our best player through the sanfl finals after coming back from injury. Its an interesting one as in the NBA they have short term contracts (10 days from memory) and it is an opportunity for a player to be involved at the highest level. At the end of the day he has gone back to glenelg but now knows what training at the elite level is all about and he has had experience many others will never have. All parties move on.
Or ditch the MSD and go back to 1 draft in Nov.Maybe clubs should get a cat B rookie spot for a mature aged rookie such as Turner.

I don't mind the MSD, as it allows clubs to fill gaps which open up as a result of long term injuries.Or ditch the MSD and go back to 1 draft in Nov.
The one end of season draft makes more sense, and expand list sizes.I don't mind the MSD, as it allows clubs to fill gaps which open up as a result of long term injuries.
However, I fail to see any reason why the PSD and RD shouldn't just be rolled straight into the ND.
Yes, the MSD system is flawed. No argument there. The one end of season draft makes more sense, and expand list sizes.
Clubs practically don’t use the list for any differentiating purpose anymore.
The same amount of players would be on lists without the split.
For the MSD, as it is it’s not fair on the player or the club losing the player mid year.
What use if a player leaving their state league club for 6 months to simply play against his old side, and then be delisted?
The system is flawed.
I’d like to see a rule implemented if the MSD needs to stay, that the player drafted must play at least one AFL match if it’s only a six month contract.
I think adding depth to the list isn’t a good enough reason to pick players up mid year.
I think the MSD rewards clubs for poor list management, clubs who don't have a balanced list can top up areas they ran the gauntlet on like rucks. The one end of season draft makes more sense, and expand list sizes.

Unless the opportunity actually realises into an actual opportunity to play AFL and/or get a follow on contract, the reward seems relatively low.Yes, the MSD system is flawed. No argument there.
However, if a club loses 3x KPDs to injury, or 3x ruckmen, then the MSD gives them a means of grabbing themselves a temporary player to fill the gap - and if the player performs well then they could get a longer-term contract.
It inconveniences the losing state-league club, but represents a major opportunity for the player (which they wouldn't otherwise get). Swings & roundabouts.
I doubt it. They could have at least spoken in depth about the selections. In an earlier post I mentioned that one of the highlights of the draft period for me is watching Ogilvie and Reid do the live post draft interviews and wrap ups. These have been largely conspicuous by their absence this year. I suspect the controversy and sensitivity surrounding Turner not being redrafted may account for this.
It's not much different to rookie list players - some seize their opportunity and make it, others don't, some are less fortunate and their opportunity turns out to be just an illusion.Unless the opportunity actually realises into an actual opportunity to play AFL and/or get a follow on contract, the reward seems relatively low.
I’m sure there would be players right now thinking they won’t nominate next year because of what happened to Turner.
