Wowee you have a lot higher rating of him than me, I'd have said a pick around 10 and I'd have thought that generous. I'd go nowhere near your trade for him. Maybe if he was 22/23
I’m factoring the picks we would have. I’d be thinking something like pick 15 & Fremantle 2023 F1 for Gus & pick 30.
He’s a top 5 player in a premiership side after all.
That’s actually not that far away from pick 10.
Consider the fact that the Dogs wanted 2 top 10 picks for Josh Dunkley not long ago in trade week!

Ahh ok, you'd be probably be right on fair value there. If we have to trade for Gus, it'd be a massive no from me

Agreed though I think we are now conditioned to the fact that he is “free” and so any kind of trade capital exchanging hands is a bad result for us!
I feel it’s a moot point anyway as Melbourne wont match any offer if he does decide to leave IMO

Side note, if we do get Gus as a FA, does the Weller trade effectively become Weller for Brayshaw x 2?

Keep an eye out this off-season for Victorian based media personalities to mention "Freo player told to look around" and "Freo would be open to helping that player move on elsewhere" regarding our contracted players in Lobb, Tucker, Meek.

They are attempting to set the narrative that they aren't required players and Freo should release them for unders.
Jon Ralph just reported that we are interested in Lobb interesting times
Like clockwork!

How about this scenario: Lobb kicks 5 goals in a match winning grand final display, but still requests a trade to Melbourne, the dees scared they could lose Jackson for nothing if WC threatened to walk him straight to the PSD if their offer of a pair of second round picks isn’t accepted decide to work with us and we offer Lobb and our first (18) for Jackson. Dees accept knowing if the don’t Lobb could end up at the dogs or saints and they still get bent over by WC in a Jackson deal.
Meanwhile Mundy, having lifted the premiership cup decides to retire on top. We offer Gus B enough to land the Dees an end of 1st round compo pick.
Dees end up with Lobb, picks 17,18 & 19.
Freo get Jackson and Gus
WC get nothing

That is Hell for the Demons.

This reminds me of some of that fan fiction stuff that goes viral sometimes:

That is Hell for the Demons.
Lobb is better than Jackson now. He probably will be for the next couple of years as well. The only thing Jackson has over Lobb is potential and 9 years extra service. Given the option of losing Jackson for a pair of second round picks and Lobb to another vic rival, I can honestly see the Dees taking the Lobb trade, they would still be in the middle of their window and know they can’t afford to lose Jackson without a replacement.

Angus Brayshaw
Josh Dunkley
Jordan Dawson
Bradley Hill (2019 version)

Rank these players in order of who is worth most to least at the trade table

Brad Hill is a great example of trading out of and in contract. Pick #23 moving to be with family. Pick #10 + moving back under contract
He'd also been one of the best players in our team to be fair.
He was reasonable at the hawks but I really thought he was going to struggle here, but it went the opposite way.

We also paid unders at the time.
We then absolutely cashed in on the way out.

Some truth in this but the main reason is that he was simply a much better player at freo than he was at the Hawks. His stocks rose considerably in his 3 years as a docker. He was a doig medalist and one of the best wingmen in the league by the time 2019 came around.
At the hawks he was more of a role player that was still developing.
One of my pet hates is eastern states pundits talking about how good hill was at hawthorn and not mentioning freo. He played his best footy for us!!

This is nothing new. Bulldogs, Essendon and St Kilda were three VIC clubs I plucked out in a post a couple of days ago. I reckon he is just throwing darts. He may well be right but who cares. You just watch the Stan doco and it is pretty obvious Lobb has a pressing need to relocate to over East and that is without knowing about his GF and her move to VIC.

If GWS still wanted the Lobster then they have missed that ship. It looks more likely a VIC club and the more the better for us.
What is Lobb worth and what teams are prepared to pay maybe two different things.

Still under contract until 2023.

I wouldn’t let go unless it better or breaks even on list.

Amiss and Treacy are still pretty young and need some time to develop.

If Lobb wants out we need to bring in a key forward as a stop gap until the kids mature.

People forget that young players develop. Brad Hill hit 95 games in 6 seasons with the Hawks and was ready to enter his prime which he did.

I'd have him easily behind Oliver, Petracca, Gawn, May, and Lever. Probably behind Fritsch, Salem, and Langdon as well. He came 14th in their B&F last year after playing every game.

The next month will tell a decent story as to where we likely finish between 3rd to 7th.

If we end up with 13-15 (finishing 4th to 6th) and we use our F2 to move up a few spots a trade with Melbourne could look something like:
9/10 & Lobb > Jackson (there may need to be other pick swaps involved)

I wouldn’t trade for Angus if Melbourne match then we walk and sign Mundy for a further year. Pick 19 is a little unders for Angus but it isn’t too far off the mark as he is out of contract (comparing him to Bradley Hill is not a fair comparison at all).

Melbourne end up with a late top 10 pick, 18 & 19 plus likely other later pick upgrades and bring in a good replacement ruck forward in Rory Lobb.

Freo do a Carlton and wipe themselves out of 2022 draft and likely lose F2 and F3 but retain first pick for 2023. Carlton retained their F2 but had an earlier first round pick.

Any KPFs stuck in the magoos that would like to come to Freo for opportunity? Weideman, Fogarty, etc.
