“We’re potentially picking two of our best two or three players in this year’s draft and we’re still sniffing around Hunter as well.”
Careful sniffing around with that thing Brady you could cause some damage with that snoz.

Just jumped on and here and have been blown away by the tsunami of dummy spits, nastiness, vitriol and general negative energy around the 'mega trade'. Astonished really. There comes a time when you need to realise what the positives are.

Firstly we've now ridden ourselves of probably the most toxic, self-entitled, smug prick to ever pull on a North jumper. The level of his arrogance and disengagement from the club from basically day 1 was hard to comprehend really. The club is a much, much better place with him gone.

Secondly the club knows who they want in the draft and who they rate in the top echelon. If they don't believe Cadman is that generational second coming that you all seem to believe he is then I absolutely trust them. It's not just Brady who's made this decision, which makes the visceral hatred spewing his way even more disgusting. Viney, Clarko and others will all have been involved in making these decisions; well informed decisions. Through this deal we've gone from having just the single pick to having three first round picks. We'll know who GWS has moved up for (most likely Cadman) so the fact we can now select two players that the club rates ahead of him is an amazing outcome. We can also death ride Port for next year and hopefully see that future 1st become extremely valuable.

Third, how often does a key position forward drafted at no.1 live up to the hype? Sure there is every possibility that he turns out to be a star, the new 'Jeremy Cameron' as a few people keep going on about, however it's more likely that he doesn't live up to that hype. Anyone that's gone through the draft thread would know that next year's draft is a very strong draft for key position forwards. We now have two picks in the 1st round. Keep the faith with what we've got; Larkey, Comben, Zurhaar, Curtis, Ford, CCJ and know that we've further strengthened our midfield; a necessity with JHF leaving, Cunners nearing the end and Jed most likely gone. Anyway with Cadman going to GWS there's every possibility he'll request a trade back to Victoria in a few years.

Lastly picks 40 and 43 will come down dramatically once Brisbane use them to cover their two father-sons. I'm sure that Brady and co. will also look to package the two picks and move up further as well. There's still a lot of possibilities ahead of us and personally (as I'm sure you can tell) I think this is a great result for us.

Just need Clarko to be given the green light and then I'm absolutely certain things are looking up (well in fairness it's the only way we can go).

You do realize that picks 40 and 43 will effectively become mid 30’s picks (end of second round) after all Brisbanes picks get chewed up with bids on Ashcroft and Fletcher - makes the deal much better.

Hopefully they plummet as much as your ITK strike rate

Could workout okay next year. Port are always a great unknown team. They could be top 6 but they could also be bottom 6. Just because they have traded in a childish brat with talent and a small forward who swaps his piss for gatorade, it doesn't mean they're going up the ladder. Boak and Dixon are mid thirties, Robbie Gray has retired and every year they are calling for Hinkley's head.

Could turn out Ok 🤔

I can't believe I'm saying this but I agreed with Brad Johnson.

We are definitely not going to climb the ladder and will still have some struggles which means we can effectively take advantage of the pick we get plus where Port will finish.

The trade is a head scratcher and we gave up two pick 1s like mad men, but I guess when you consider the fact we can grab two mids (absolute guns btw) it does lessen the blow.

In the 2023 draft, if we finish bottom again we can definitely have a look at the KPPs then. Our backline is solid for now which helps immensely.

“Let’s face it, that Port pick could be 14, 15, 16” What the **** am I missing? When did Port suddenly become this powerhouse club overnight? They’re more likely to finish from 10th-15th than they are around the top 4. I don’t understand.

I don't get it either.

People are conveniently forgetting the first 5 rounds of utter shit. It was so bad they looked worse than us at one point.

100% confirmed to me by a very very very reliable source that JHF wasn’t too popular amongst the playing group and is indeed super size figjam. Whether this was part of his master plan to leave or is just a bona fide unwashed and uneducated w*er we’ll find out soon enough. If he starts with the attitude at Port then they have a major problem child on their hands and we’ll be breathing a sigh of relief. He now has a target on his back so will be interesting to see how this campaigner reacts. A pick 1 should be a total pro on and off the field. Anyway * him and I hope the campaigner cops the karma bus or better still a Zurhaar hip and shoulder. He simply had to go unfortunately. A ***** waste of a pick 1. Hopefully the 2&3 we pick up bring with them a professional attitude and that Port screw things up next year and we get another top 10 pick. Just deflating that we can’t seem to nail our top picks. We seem to be in a permanent state of rebuild. Hopefully this Clarko rubbish gets sorted soon and we can start looking like a footy side again.

Great post. I’m not worried about this trade. But I’m disappointed that we haven’t done enough research and didn’t see it coming

Teams who will finish higher for certain.
Geelong, sydney, dees, Brisbane, pies, freo, richmond.
Teams that may finish higher
Dogs, blues, saints, gc
That would have them finishing 12th with a bit of luck.
Not so bad.

Sounds like Hunter Clark is still a definite chance.
Oh you bet ya
And saints want a first round draft pick for him

And I’m worried we’ll give them what they want
GWS had to throw one of their picks back our way

They did finish 2nd last year though, so hopefully they don't bounce back.
Personally i don really rate their side and their coach is rubbish.

Yep sounds like he wants to come but saints holding him

Now we just need him to act toxic so they feel they can’t have him around their group like a certain petulant 18 year old

Port do have a habit of bouncing back after a bad year under Hinkley, but it could easily turn to shit.

Gray gone, Amon gone, Boak another year older, they have been important players. Plus Hinkley on a knife’s edge….

It could all go to shit quickly. And how fun that would be!!!

The club has to be commended for setting a firm enough position to get pick #2. In years past we probably would've got pushed to take pick #8 - or worse. Pick #2 alone is like being able to return Judas in the warranty period.

To get a future first on top of that is a huge bonus. We had our expectations set too high over the last week but we basically got to hand our failed selection back and spin again. Twice.

That's before you factor in 3 things that make the deal even better.

1. There's enough reliable reports now that the bloke is/was a Grade A dickhead. Yes maybe he'll improve back in SA. But sounds like nobody at the club (not hard to read between the lines of Brady's post deal interviews) gave him much chance of improving with US. Judas putting in a trade request saved us ever having to salvage the sunk cost of picking him at #1. We could now recoup our costs unashamedly.

2. Related to point 1, for all his natural talent - port now get a player with some serious 'buyer beware' factor. Judd, Buckley, Dangerfield all walked on their clubs - but their new homes knew they were getting driven professionals who would raise standards around them.

Port have a much riskier proposition. They get their home grown talent - but with caveats. And whilst the HF family would've had no lines of influence into North Melbourne, maybe they'll push the friendship as Fabian expects VIP access into his old/stepsons club. Who knows.

3. The uncomfortable truth. We can admit it now. His season was pretty underwhelming. Even his RS nomination was contentious at the time. A few of us were surprised he even took our own best first year player gong. Yes, he'll take time, yes generational talent yada yada. But you could argue he was worth less than what we paid so to get almost a full refund plus interest - not bad.

As for pick 1, it has to be looked at as sliding just 1 spot in net result due to us holding pick 2. We took a 1 pick hit and got 2x 3rd rounders out of it. Unglamorous, unexciting but we milked an asset for a small gain and no real loss. Plus as discussed it was needed to grease pick 2.

Overall and especially with the newer information suggesting Jason was never going to be redeeming himself in 2023 for us let alone boosting his trade value - I think we did well.

Yeh, weird.

Gee they are a very precious bunch over on the Port board.

Just got kicked off for what I would view as some of the least inflammatory posts I could have ever written on an opposition board. There would be about 10 posters left here if our mods acted like theirs.

Ford Fairlane issued the warning. I wonder where he stole that from? Am I allowed to say that here?
