Some of the clubs reaction has come from Chom who said he was a crap teammate, Zurhaar clearly showing his disapproval on social media and insinuating he couldnt stand him and Brady’s comment that the snake didn’t want to be there either and didn’t want to wear the jumper/represent the jumper with pride etc.
It’s also also reported he been ghosting Paul Curtis too.
The man is a piece of shit.

But we went about this so weakly as a football club.
Let’s wind it back 18 months.

This kids playing senior grade SANFL footy and dominating. We have no chance of getting Daicos & Darcy and Finn Callaghan isn’t worthy of being pick 1, nor is Rachelle. So this rat is it.

But where was the ground work to speak to his coaches, his teachers, try and understand what he was like away from footy? Clearly the pull to home was a strong one but it seems we took him because there was no other obvious choice at pick 1.
It’s such a North thing that our first wooden spoon in the AFL era ends up in us having no other option but to take this campaigner and trade him 7 months after he moved to Melbourne.

Adelaide’s trade offer in 2021 works well for them but not us IMO. They were able to lure 2 local lads home using first round picks, but I don’t believe it would have benefited us the same way. And we still would have sent 19 back their way.
1, 19 for 5, 5, 18. Mehh damned if we do damned if we don’t. There should have been an attempt to try and land a mature key forward at the very least.

I think all these events stem back to how undersized our footy department is. We are lacking the resources to compete. Can this board now understand and see the the perils of possessing the haves and have nots?
Do you guys finally see how not having a man on the ground to do our due diligence means we drafted a kid from another state who never wanted to be here. It’s a massive recruiting fail. Embarassing.

It’s alarming that we weren’t strong enough to at least back in our culture and set the standards. It’ll be said JHF failed us but what if we weren’t strong enough or bold enough towards him?

How is it that an 18yo can come to an AFL club and in such a short amount of time become such a cancer. Both parties are probably at fault here but it was to toxic by seasons end.

So it’s time for him to leave and the leverage we had and the dealing we showed the last week was meek. It was mediocre. Talked a big game early on and failed to deliver on it. At no stage did we set the terms and direct the trade to suit us.
It’s quite possible Port knew how keen we were to get rid of him but thats where the wheeling and dealing aspect of a trade come into play. At what point did we engage in any sort of discussion to orchestrate a lucrative swap? It was so disappointing. And we walk away with a draft hand that any other competent club and list manager would call unders.

Look at how the supporter base reacted. How they are feeling. Whereas they’re over the moon over at Port. That gives you a fair idea of how this all went down.

We went into this with our heart firmly on our sleeves and clearly emotionally conflicted and Port seized that and got what they were after.

Just take the kids with 2 and 3 and move on.

Didn't really know where to post my thoughts and musings on this one but I think here will do.

Firstly, I feel like we should have got more, so I'm disappointed like many of you.

Next thing, I think it's clear we wanted JHF gone ASAP. His attitude has clearly rubbed our playing group the wrong way and many of them wanted nothing to do with him once he requested a trade. I know many of you wanted to keep him an extra year, but good luck juggling a kid with a shitty attitude around players that don't like him and want nothing to do with him. Holding him an extra year and playing hardball sounds great in theory when you remove all human emotion, but in reality it wasn't going to work. Can you imagine the amount of energy it would take to try and galvanize a group that has a bloke who everyone knows doesn't want to be there, and the players don't like anyway? The sulking and lip he gave ON THE FIELD was disgraceful enough, imagine forcing him to come back to a club that he's betrayed and what he'd be like when the cameras aren't on him.

I'm conflicted with the Cadman situation. On one hand, it seems we rate Wardlaw, Sheezel and Tsatas in the same tier, and we're trying to lock in two of them - we don't rate Cadman in the same tier which I totally understand. I can sympathise with those who want to lock in a young key position forward and see this as another missed opportunity to do that. Personally, I think Wardlaw and Sheezel are the two best players in this draft so I'd be going best available with them.

Ultimately, I think we tried our absolute best to get a better deal for JHF but it just didn't happen. We decided that there's no chance we wanted him to hang around and negatively impact on the club and playing group for another year, so we shipped him off for the best we could get.

In 3 years we will have a better idea of who won this trade.

I agree with all you say, doesn’t change the fact we blinked first again.

Just jumped on and here and have been blown away by the tsunami of dummy spits, nastiness, vitriol and general negative energy around the 'mega trade'. Astonished really. There comes a time when you need to realise what the positives are.

Firstly we've now ridden ourselves of probably the most toxic, self-entitled, smug prick to ever pull on a North jumper. The level of his arrogance and disengagement from the club from basically day 1 was hard to comprehend really. The club is a much, much better place with him gone.

Secondly the club knows who they want in the draft and who they rate in the top echelon. If they don't believe Cadman is that generational second coming that you all seem to believe he is then I absolutely trust them. It's not just Brady who's made this decision, which makes the visceral hatred spewing his way even more disgusting. Viney, Clarko and others will all have been involved in making these decisions; well informed decisions. Through this deal we've gone from having just the single pick to having three first round picks. We'll know who GWS has moved up for (most likely Cadman) so the fact we can now select two players that the club rates ahead of him is an amazing outcome. We can also death ride Port for next year and hopefully see that future 1st become extremely valuable.

Third, how often does a key position forward drafted at no.1 live up to the hype? Sure there is every possibility that he turns out to be a star, the new 'Jeremy Cameron' as a few people keep going on about, however it's more likely that he doesn't live up to that hype. Anyone that's gone through the draft thread would know that next year's draft is a very strong draft for key position forwards. We now have two picks in the 1st round. Keep the faith with what we've got; Larkey, Comben, Zurhaar, Curtis, Ford, CCJ and know that we've further strengthened our midfield; a necessity with JHF leaving, Cunners nearing the end and Jed most likely gone. Anyway with Cadman going to GWS there's every possibility he'll request a trade back to Victoria in a few years.

Lastly picks 40 and 43 will come down dramatically once Brisbane use them to cover their two father-sons. I'm sure that Brady and co. will also look to package the two picks and move up further as well. There's still a lot of possibilities ahead of us and personally (as I'm sure you can tell) I think this is a great result for us.

Just need Clarko to be given the green light and then I'm absolutely certain things are looking up (well in fairness it's the only way we can go).
Brilliant post. It’s so hard to read trade threads at the best of times because we always get “reamed”, the sheer nastiness directed towards Brady in particular is out of line and also not aligned with reality.

Every year it happens - trades are made that are basically fair, it’s very rare that one club “wins” a trade - and yet every year people bitch and moan about how we are amateurs and **** our selves over, including abusing the club like noofies on Facebook.

I’m not saying we can’t be critical. But Horne-Francis is worth about what we got for him. Probably we got a little unders, but ****, that’s our bad luck, he wanted to go. **** him. We move on.

Pick 21 for CCJ last year - I think that looks ok even today, considering his size and his potential and the coaching cluster**** he walked into. We had to give that pick, not because Brady bends over every time but because it was fair. Like we held Xerri cos we couldn’t get what was fair for him.

Trading is about filling on-field needs first, and ****ing over other clubs a distant second. We got Logue for a future 2nd. Now I reckon that’s almost unders for Freo, but it’s close enough to fair. Anyway. It’s been a long ****ing night but I’m just a bit sick of all the toxicity around player movement. We’ve got what we needed cheaply (Logue and Tucker) and we have two high picks. We lose a player who didn’t want to be here for fair - not amazing, but fair - compensation.

Finally, let’s ensure we enjoy Port spudding it up next year. I’ve taken some names down today.

Any reason you plucked Essendon out of the air?
Probably because they have the pick immediately after ours, so we'd still be having 2 picks in the top 4 to draft the kids we want, as well as using 22 to secure Clarke. Not the worst suggestion I've seen in these trading threads.

Gee they are a very precious bunch over on the Port board.

Just got kicked off for what I would view as some of the least inflammatory posts I could have ever written on an opposition board. There would be about 10 posters left here if our mods acted like theirs.

Ford Fairlane issued the warning. I wonder where he stole that from? Am I allowed to say that here?
Of course you are :) If that fella was any good he'd be Ford Prefect and swilling pangalactic gargleblasters with his semi half brother Zaphod Beeblebrox. Instead he's probably just swilling Kochies bathwater and waiting for his parole hearing date.

think its been mentioned but to do try package up 40 and 43 for say essendon pick 22 and see if it gets Clark
I'd much rather than that splitting 3, which Rawlings intimated was an option in his interview. On balance, the mega deal is on the 'okay' side of acceptable, but IMO if we split 3 for 9 and Clark then we are definitely in negative territory

Arguably the funniest thing about this entire saga was Noble, 14 seconds before the trade was made official, banging on on Trade Radio about how he and LIST ULTRA GURU Silvagni couldn't see it happening without North getting 4-5 first rounders

Nobel is a dead set goose! right up there with the worst coaching appointments of the last 30 years

I suspect if he's more comfortable in Adelaide he'll start being more diligent and will thrive. He never settled in Melbourne
People gotta calm down the hate a bit. He is a kid who was too young to leave his family. I'm not going to hate on him too much.

Just wish we got a bit more out of that trade.

It's funny, I was underwhelmed but nowhere near as angry as most North people on social media yesterday. was
Now, after seeing Bull's reaction last night, I've woken up pretty pumped to see what we do from here. Made even better for knowing we have 2 Firsts next year.
Onward and upward 👍
This was my feeling also. Underwhelmed, but not necessarily angry. Two of the three best kids this year, and two firsts next year, it's not disastrous.

Come round one, new coach, improved team and I'll be going into the season full of optimism..........as always!
