Could we walk Jackson into the National Draft if a trade isn’t done?

It isn’t used very often but it’s a valid option if we think Jackson would last to our first selection. Realistically would probably involve trading Pick 13 and our first this year for a higher selection.

If West Coast won’t trade pick 2 for him I doubt they’d draft him at that selection. The price on Jackson’s head would also rule out a number of clubs. It’d take a brave club to select him before our selection.

Personally I think West Coast not being willing to trade Pick 2 for Jackson means that the deal with us will get done and not necessarily for what Melbourne want.

As far as I know they're not, grew up in different parts of Victoria and no relation mentioned anywhere in footy media, that's the kind of thing they'll mention around draft time but there's nothing

Good point, and now I think about it, the whole JHF thing makes the media reports the last couple of weeks really odd. Either JHF only just changed his mind or the pick 8 thing with Port and them going after Pickett was always a complete load of crap.

It's a fair point, but most 24 year old mids are twice the footballers of 20 year old talls. There's probably an element of shedding salary with GWS as well because I think they are getting dudded on that trade

Have to admit I was wondering this too as a backup option; we keep our first pick (13) to do it that we are clearly fine in giving away for such an endeavour and he puts a price on his head - it would be pretty unpalatable for the other clubs to spend an early pick on someone that has run away and costs a bit you would think.
