I think he had already told them he wasn't coming back. Pretty fractured relationship. I know you'll argue that it's a great thing the club did as usual but to have a guy who's spent his career at the club walk away really upset at his treatment isn't showing anything positive about how he saw the environment he was in. It's really rare that a player would prefer to blow up his career than stay at his club. They must have really upset him.
Luke dunstan?
Didn’t he walk out of training to get a coffee when he was told he was dropped because he refused to tag when asked by the coach..??

Not sure Luke was in it for the club but mostly for Luke

Ratts will be gone mid way through next year if he flops early. Best case is we miss any chance of finals and move him out by about round 17, give the new guy a few games before attacking 2024.

If he doesn't make radical changes to the way we play and start getting wins he'll need a miracle to hold his job.

Rath has to take 50% of the blame too. He's the guy brought in as a strategist and nothing about the way we play looks up to scratch. The game style seems to be the opposite to what suits our list, the game style is horrible to sit through as a spectacle, it looks dated and not actually improving our wins.

I honestly can't see one improvement he's made. If Clarko comes calling I'd let him walk.

100% agree, if Ratts is underperforming the 60k members will demand change.

The game plan MUST change.

I accept the players are confused with the game plan because as a spectator it’s confusing to watch!

This congested footy style game plan doesn’t play to the players strengths.
It seems like Rath, Ratts and the recruiting dept have different game plans and the players are running around like chooks.

We have half the cattle on the field to compete for top 4. Up draft some better players, change the game plan that suits our strengths, then hang on.

I think our forward line a shambles is a myth.
We have smart kids there.

Most of the problem is the lack of transition speed leaves us with a flooded forward arc.

Then when in that position, which is at times unavoidable, we could really use a bigger body up there.
Not only as a 2nd contested marking target, but able to block for max.

Butler, Higgins etc try as they might to block for him, they just aren’t a threat to guys like the Mccartin boys.
Our forward line shambles is definitely not a myth but the ball coming in and the game plan is terrible and doesn’t help the cause.

If you you watch what both our talls are doing before the ball goes forward.
  • they both run it into the same space
  • they both compete for the same ball
  • stand too close to each other that draws each other’s defender
  • congesting each other’s space where you want the ball to land.

As a result we are kicking further from goal than what we should be.

Even our smalls forward are hardly effective as they run off packs for the quick easy goal over the top. But if it’s not marked we don’t have anyone front and center. The ball is cleaned up by the defenders and is rebounded out.

If we had a proper forward skills coach we could clean this up and be more dominant.
Have plans to create separation and work for each other.

We keep insisting we need more tall players, what we need is a forward system.

King has some of the attributes to play this role but he doesn't have the work rate or tank to do it yet. His defensive efforts are token only at this stage. Cameron has a Riewoldt like engine he beats his man by running them into the ground up and down the field. He can play like an extra midfielder if need be, Max would just get lost up there. Max is a proper full forward he just needs to convert better.
Why does Max need to burn his opponent. He hasn’t had the preseasons like Cameron so you can’t compare.

Max strength is his run, jump and marking at the highest point. So why not play to his strengths while he is still developing his craft.

Disagree, arm wrestle v Richmond then overpowered them, Geelong , held them and smashed them in the second half, Carlton, lead all four quarters.

Really, short memories.
Carlton and Hawks we looked good through the 4 quarters. Our ball movement, transition and structure has looked awful by and large the whole season. Last season too

Sharman was a wasted year just like Battle was last year , Sharman when he kicked 10 goals took 19 marks in his 4 games at the end of 2021 many past greats Brereton Carey Johnston were saying what a natural footballer and what a great prospect he was. Of course he should be in our forward line

King Membrey Sharman
Billing’s Higgins Butler
Sharman is like a younger Gunston. Don’t forget he’s still young and has a huge ceiling we haven’t seen yet.
So the thought of trading him for Gunston is a big no. He will our 200 gamer and onfield leader.

My gut feeling is Ratts gets a bug up his a*se about players. Happened with Carlisle... happening with Bytel.

That combined with his poor coaching will set us back.

My hope is he doesn't do too much damage before we get rid of him.
People saying about Bytel, but he's been injured most of the year and only strung together the last 3 games consistently

That really doesn't warrant a game over owens or windhager who went into the guts for Crouch

Because really in the scheme of things, it was Owens who took over Crouchs role more than anyone else.

SEN reported this morning that Hunter Clarke is possibly looking to move clubs.

Anyone know if there is any truth to this?

If so, MMM reported that GC are willing to part with their 1st rnd picks. They are looking for a running HB with kicking skills.

Clark would fit this profile.

Hello Cam McKenzie.

Hello Cam McKenzie.

Surely not, I’ll have to change username 🤯

Hello Cam McKenzie.
Could be true. He's been at our club for 5 years now? And you still don't know how to spell his name.

Bytel never did enough to deserve a game so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Maybe in the last round would should have played him but outside of that he was just average at best at VFL level.

Windhager and Owens went past him in their first year
