No, it came from Luke as well.

Again, I’m not saying Luke’s version of events or his level of vitriol and anger was justified but ultimately it doesn’t reflect well on the club.

He’s gone and I doubt anyone cares he’s gone but it’s pretty odd to just assume Ratts sugar coated version is any more honest than Dunstans scorched earth version.

Dunstan was Morris’ source?

Who’d have thunk it?

So we’re led to believe that a coach says ‘you’ll never play again’… then picks him 6 weeks later.

Then picks him again 6 weeks later.

Ratts’ version (there’s a few in front of you as we just recruited Brad Crouch & have a young kid called Bytel that we’d also like to get games into, so you’ll struggle to get a game) is more believable on every level.

Yes. They are planning on bringing in McStay so any compo pick would be impacted.

So they either plan on matching any offer for him - and then we should walk away because giving up our first rounder for him defeats the purpose of targeting Free Agents - or they don't expect him to leave.
Then they have to pay him more than they wanted to or could afford with others potentially coming to their club?

People are genuinely suggesting we need to trade for another key defender while we have Doogs, Battle and Wilkie like it’s a weakness and this is considering that this is Battles first year playing as a full time defender and he’s 23.

Like… of all the things we need that ain’t it. You wanna draft another key defender sure, but after the year Battle had and playing 3 games as the genuine number 1 or 2 key defender and others as the number 2 tall (Wilkie often just takes the most dangerous forward not the other tall) it’s just a bizarre line to me.

Say we get McKay from north what do we do with Battle? You want him to play at Sandy after the year he’s had.
Nah, I wouldn't play him at Sandy. He'd still be in the side playing the same role he is as a mostly 3rd tall defender.

It may not be number one on the priority list but it's up there.

You might be rapt wirh that backline but it doesn't scream premiership to me

I’m probably coming across more mad about this than I am but IF we got a McKay (or whoever) how do you play McKay, Howard, Wilkie, Battle and then still have Coff returning?

I don’t really think any line screams premiership right now but our backline is the most functional and effective.

That’s a very good question for Luke.

Sure, I’d also argue we should probably consider what we did to contribute to it.

These scenarios are almost always a shared responsibility thing, additionally Luke can please himself we should be better and reflect. That’s all, that’s literally all I’m saying.

would rather Howard at Sandy or moved forward

Couldnt mark his undies with a brown dot

wouldn't worry to much, why would he leave North now Clarko is there ?

As I've said previously, it's no different to Richmond's set up during it's dynasty.

But if it does mean that one of our third talls might have to miss out than so be it.

I think just because it's the least dysfunctional does not mean we shouldn't be looking to improve if possible.

A chippy?

Fk I hope he can hit a nail straighter than he can kick

All the BS re what Ratts supposedly said came from a journo who now cant get a job as a journo.

Says it all really.

Chippy would be right the chip he had on his shoulder.
Dunstan was given every opportunity and he never delivered ,

Richmond had Astbury (who is really more Battle than anyone), Grimes (who is really Wilkie) and Rance (who is a much better version of Howard). Our set up isn’t that much different it’s just not as good but Battles not the weak link there.

True. But does shipping off Grundy give them the ability to match any offer De Goey gets?
Also true.
Going to be interesting. If I was Collingwood I’d probably be keeping him. Depends who they have their eyes on.

People think Clarkson going to change North - maybe improve them but really a coach is not going to make much difference with the players they have.
Also far from convinced he’s really gonna manage to poach anyone worth poaching tbh.

Rance is 1cm taller than Battle and battle is tracking as well as Rance at his age , Howard is a 2m key defender and at 25 we have a long way to go with him , knowing the tall defenders get there s/it together in there late 20s as the ruckmen do.
I feel our backline is fine , it's just stopping the ball going in there so much which comes down to the midfield and that is our weak point.

Why should an employer reflect on asking an employee to do their job, just because the disgruntled employee spat it at the HR exit interview.
Then the employee gave themselves a bad reference.
Should Dew reflect on not taking Dunstan because Dunstan is an idiot?
Only disrespect was from one source.

They also had Broad, who was probably closer to Battle

Astbury was a genuine lock down key defender

They will give him the reins to get who ever he can get but in all reality he is in a club that has bottomed out and they need to start bringing in some good young talent and hope they develop.

Tell me you don’t need another key defender without telling me you don’t need another key defender.

No-one notice just how good Battle was this year. To go from a player that plenty were non plussed about losing to be in our best 10 players was a massive turn around.
