Why should an employer reflect on asking an employee to do their job, just because the disgruntled employee spat it at the HR exit interview.
Then the employee gave themselves a bad reference.
Should Dew reflect on not taking Dunstan because Dunstan is an idiot?
Only disrespect was from one source.
I mean… you really don’t get it. Small insular industry, what did we benefit from the Dunstan situation.

It really doesn’t matter and it’s a pretty pointless discussion, if you wanna do the “the club did nothing wrong and Dunstan is a flog” then not I nor anyone else can help you understand the issue we’re raising.

Richmond had Astbury (who is really more Battle than anyone), Grimes (who is really Wilkie) and Rance (who is a much better version of Howard). Our set up isn’t that much different it’s just not as good but Battles not the weak link there.
Rance is 1cm taller than Battle and battle is tracking as well as Rance at his age , Howard is a 2m key defender for the monstar forwards
Also far from convinced he’s really gonna manage to poach anyone worth poaching tbh.
They will give him the riens to get who ever he can get but in all reality he is in a club that has bottomed out and they need to start bringing in some good young talent and hope they develop.

so true

No-one notice just how good Battle was this year. To go from a player that plenty were non plussed about losing to be in our best 10 players was a massive turn around.
I’ve been mad for Battle for years. I’m just glad we’ve got him in a settled spot and playing good footy, I was convinced another year of ****ing him around on a wing or flank would see him leave and absolutely turn into a star somewhere else.

Have waded through pages and pages of hysteria that NWM may be leaving to go back home to Adelaide. The basis of this seems to be because he hasn't signed a contract extension yet, even though he has a year still to run on his initial contract.

Possibly a different perspective might be, that he has a switched on manager, who has seen that he has had an excellent first season and that he shows huge upside. He has told NWM to back himself him and improve further next year and he will benefit by an even larger contract for years 3 onwards. This is a plausible explanation, so Chicken Littles, the sky may not be falling yet.
Especially when King was given the keys to the city after his first contract was coming to a close. NWM manager wouldn't be stupid enough to think he's worth 700-750k, but may well be worth 500-600k depending on how the 2nd year plays out (plus the threat of lurking clubs from the home state)
Pure business.

They also had Broad, who was probably closer to Battle

Astbury was a genuine lock down key defender

Broad was a more in between size. Astbury the only more lumbering type. Rance and Grimes were quite agile. Grimes was a Wilkie who could play on different sizes. Rance just timed everything well. None were huge. Vlastuin was pretty handy in the air for his size too. They just worked well as a unit. Having Bachar for run and carry helped. He was such a good architect when coming out of defence.

Ben Long last game was one out of the blue - for him to go from a player who battled to get over 12 possessions a game to suddenly picking up 27 and taking 17 marks has left massive question marks on if that was the game he realized he can play and now take it to the next level.
If he plays like that we have a future star on our hands.

Provided he stays… 😱
I really hope he does, but what is happening with his contract I wonder?

Alte

Already agreed to terms would be my tip! We wouldn’t be going public unless they’d have an answer. He’s a free agent he doesn’t need to make a request he just walks…
Having that extra midfielder you can throw on the ball when we are getting beaten in there is going to be a big upgrade.
Steele and Crouch can hold there own usually , but it's the other mid that usually gets whipped and having a number of mids to attempt to fix the problem will go a long way to fixing the problem.
If Gresham , Ross , Jones , Clark can't win the footy hopefully DeGoey can and the best part he can play as a forward when needed.

You’re very welcome here UU.

Whether your intel is legit or not, it sure beats the Dunstan-Petracca-Pelican-Trout-Allison-McCartin merry-go-round.

Yep.

Our ball movement hasn't looked good since the Richmond and first Hawks game.

It just seemed to progressively get worse until it started costing us in the back half of the year
Agree strongly. We also only played 4 consistent qtrs of footy once for the whole year..the MCG Hawks game. If you were having a drink every time you heard "gee it wasnt pretty but we got the win" You'd be needing AA 3 months ago

Broad was able to take both bigs and smalls. He did plenty of good jobs on some quality talls though. Same height as Battle

Vlaustin is a gun. Similar type to Coffield where he will take a smaller player but terrific in the air. Rates elite for intercept marks this year.

To have 4 players over 192cm and then to still have Vlaustin coming in taking intercept marks is pretty hard to get past.

That back 6 probably didn't get enough credit really.

Correct insular industry. Remind me who got offered a base rate rookie position from one club again?

Really you would have an argument if it was a Luke Ball situation, but it is obvious what the ,'insular industry' thinks who the difficult one is.
And if you think I believe does no wrong, you are clueless, no flag in 56 years, must be doing everything right.
In this case the evidence points to who was the 'flog' as you put it was. Personally don't think Dunstan is a flog, just disgruntled, but didn't help himself by shitcanning the club. The guy was a fringe AFL player not Dustin Martin.

Anyway stuff Dunstan, been gone a year, we move on.

You are completely correct, not settled, completely confused, wanted out. Now signed for two.
This year it is Long. Hopefully we keep him

Disagree, arm wrestle v Richmond then overpowered them, Geelong , held them and smashed them in the second half, Carlton, lead all four quarters.

Really, short memories.

Yeh your still missing the point I’m making but agreed move on.

This why drafting is so hard , Dunstan looked he was going to be a player in the draft and his first couple years he was developing and then went missing - he was given every chance to become a good player and his contested work was good just his disposal was hopeless and he went missing in too many games.

Same goes with Billings , he looked like a jet in the draft , but somehow he just become a standard issue run of the mill player.

Think a healthy a firing Hayes is as good a second option as any (hell also free up Membs quite a bit too).

But banking on a mature age big man to come back 100% from an ACL after 12 months is rough, in reality hell be more likely to fire in 2024.
Throw Max Heath in up forward and 30% ruck. Let him draw defenders away from Max and Members. He can take a pretty good grab and knows how to kick a goal.
Simple fact he is our future, so why not give him an opportunity and develop start to him at senior level.

Yep, it's good to have some experience in different positions in your first 2 years or so but after that you want to settle into one.

I can't recall who we played when battle went into the ruck and played like a mad man but I think a bit of that was because of his all over the field experience he had gained in past years.

Chippy would be right the chip he had on his shoulder.
Dunstan was given every opportunity and he never delivered ,
Yep - dud - only averaged 27 possessions a game and got a dozen Brownlow votes in his last 11 games with us.

Reward form not favourites.

He was rewarded with games. As you stated he got a dozen brownlow votes in his last 11 games.

However, what do you reward him with? A 2, 3 or 4 year contract?
No other team rewarded him for that stretch

Saints believed he wasn't in future plans and let him go
