SEN reported this morning that Hunter Clarke is possibly looking to move clubs.

Anyone know if there is any truth to this?

If so, MMM reported that GC are willing to part with their 1st rnd picks. They are looking for a running HB with kicking skills.

Clark would fit this profile.

Hello Cam McKenzie.
That was just a nuffy text asking Sam Edmund if he’s heard that. Why Gerard takes those I’m not sure maybe he’s a bit short on content but that’s like taking rumours from this place and putting them on the radio. Staggering stuff.

This place...jesus, a whole day of Dunstan. Enough...lets Stoke some fires and get the blood boiling...Clark wants out (probably bullshit, but let's play the game) I wouldn't be opposed to losing him. Personally think he's stalled and is highly injury prone, in spite of being obviously talented. Unfortunately I get slight Billings vibes off him...and the last thing we need is another one of them. Let's get him off our books whilst he's still worth something. If it gets us up the draft and we can get an ACTUAL real life midfielder; then it's a win.
Might as well do it now before he loses all value.

Okay...let's rumble.

Bytel never did enough to deserve a game so I'm not sure what the issue is.

Maybe in the last round would should have played him but outside of that he was just average at best at VFL level.

Windhager and Owens went past him in their first year
What sort of numbers were Owens and Windhager getting at Sandy before they were picked ? Not so sure they went past him just given more of a go

Our forward line shambles is definitely not a myth but the ball coming in and the game plan is terrible and doesn’t help the cause.

If you you watch what both our talls are doing before the ball goes forward.
  • they both run it into the same space
  • they both compete for the same ball
  • stand too close to each other that draws each other’s defender
  • congesting each other’s space where you want the ball to land.

As a result we are kicking further from goal than what we should be.

Even our smalls forward are hardly effective as they run off packs for the quick easy goal over the top. But if it’s not marked we don’t have anyone front and center. The ball is cleaned up by the defenders and is rebounded out.

If we had a proper forward skills coach we could clean this up and be more dominant.
Have plans to create separation and work for each other.

We keep insisting we need more tall players, what we need is a forward system.
I remember in the past at our club a big deal was made about forwards who could work together and not get in each other's way.

This year I've seen the exact opposite consistently. Forwards trying to mark the same ball, spoiling each other, knocking it down for the oppo defenders to crumb and clear. Frustrating enough as a fan, must be infuriating as a player. What are we doing about it?

He has an unfortunate knack of getting a crappy injury whenever a position opens up in the team and he has to gain match fitness again. I feel for the bloke...he just seems illl fated. The coaches seem a little adverse to playing him out if position too. Has he ever come in as a HFF or anything?

Windhager dominated a game with 33 disposals and 2 goals before his first inclusion.

When we got dropped he went back and had almost identical numbers.

Bytel didn't reach 28 disposals until round 20

Owens possession count wasn't as high as Windhagers but proved he was a threat both forward and in the midfield. He kicked 2 goals in 4 of his 8 games.

Bytel lacks versatility unlike Owens so that put him behind and Windhager clearly just outperformed him

Bytel was given every opportunity last year and never really took it. This year in the VFL he was just ok, but for a 22 year old inside mid you need to be doing more than just racking up mid 20's possessions if you only play the one position.

Hello Cam McKenzie.

I mentioned (not in here) that if rhe price was right id look at trading hunter

Was one of my fav pkayers and had that promise, you could see it, and obviously id love him to take that next big step
But injuries and fitness have hampered him big time
Could we replace him/his position with what we already have on the list?
Possibly
If we got another first round pick youd have to look at the scenario surely.

Would be a tough call yet im tipping he will still be a saint next year

A pity Clark got those injuries, but I don't see him as a backline player or a mid and would rather he goes into the forward half at the expense of Higgins or Butler, neither of whom do enough over four quarters.

It wasn’t just Windhager and Owens that were playing better than Bytel because Byrnes was outperforming him by a mile as well. He was basically fourth in line for most of the year.

I think he’s worth another preseason before entertaining a trade. We’ve seen his upside and there’s no way he should have peaked already. A few players had clearly poor years and it coincides with missing a lot of footy. Zac Jones included, Billings. Etc.

I agree
Hopefully he stays and has a cracking preseason on the track and in the gym

Hello Cam McKenzie.
I wouldn't be opposed to him leaving at all if we got a good price but I find it weird that he wants to leave - what does he want that is not getting at St Kilda?

Hello Cam McKenzie.
Sam Edmund didn't say Clark was moving. Someone messaged SEN on Tuesday asking if he had heard that rumour and Edmund said he chased all day and couldn't find anything that backed that comment up.

I hope we keep Campbell on, I'd say he is about as good a backup ruck as you'd find, but I think we should mainly play Marshall sole ruck now.

When Marshall grabs it out of the ruck, it would be good to see us work on him handballing it to a runner or have a setup for a dump kick. He gets a lot of clearances with his dump kicks out of the contest, but I reckon they come back at least half the time
Rumours on Saints FB page that we are keen in Ratogalea

Getting away from the South eastern suburbs and his social circles outside of football would be the best thing for him.

Yeah...but just for hypothetical fun; just say a club see's the potential, and the fact that Clark hasn't yet reached his ceiling, and offers something that helps us nab a skilful young midfielder with both speed and endurance. Would you go for it? Clark would have some value...despite his horrendous injury run. We wouldn't get pick 8 back obviously, but we might get an early 2nd rounder that could be manipulated with other picks to move up the order, or if the gods smile at us...and the other club is clinically stupid, a late first. I'm not a gambler, but that is almost too good to refuse.
We don't have many guys to parcel up, but Clark is one we could cover and potentially gain from losing.

Agree strongly. We also only played 4 consistent qtrs of footy once for the whole year..the MCG Hawks game. If you were having a drink every time you heard "gee it wasnt pretty but we got the win" You'd be needing AA 3 months ago
Season can be summed up by “wins paper
Over cracks”

Eventually the house ****ing collapsed

There probably only 3-4 players on our list who would be off limits even if another club wanted to overpay for them. So, hypothetically, if a club wanted to give us good for Clark, you would consider it.
