If North are genuinely going after Clark you'd hope we do a Freo and play hard ball as they did with Hill and Weller.

Not sure how they get it done though. They won't split pick 1 and they have nothing after that.

Even if they get 19 as a PP it's not going to be enough.

There’s a stink on here about what players we may or may not trade. Ultimately in the end you have to crack eggs to make omelettes.

We all know our list is compromised, especially our B Grade midfield group. If we have to entertain a calculated risk to trade or draft to upgrade our list so be it. Retooling via the draft just doesn’t work anymore, due to FA, NGA etc., and especially as we are not a VIC powerhouse club.

If another club comes knocking for Clark or any other certain player with a top 10 draft pick or picks or a player, so be it. Lets do it.

NBA, MLB and NFL are all good working examples of this. We can’t sit back and be vanilla expect different.

Or you keep adding premium ingredients to a shit chef's kitchen but he still produces horrible food. List management is about stockpiling talent and patching up missing pieces. We have a good midfield compared to a lot of sides in the 8. A dated game plan makes us vulnerable to any side with a game plan that is up to date.

We need to decide where we are at. If we are rebuilding sell players off but not the younger ones. Get rid of Hill, Jones, Webster types who are at the back end of their careers. We don't have much to trade because we have quite an uneven list. They won't get us much but we need to do more with less not have too many choices or we just have more to **** up. Be clever with the state leagues or alternative paths if we need more access to talent.

Hunter Clark has barely scratched the surface yet, selling him off now seems like a retrograde move unless we want an excuse to miss finals next year and are going to use youth as that excuse.

Trading out players is only of value if you get more than what you lose. That hasn't been our experience with these idiots.

Love the bloke like I loved Acres... he has a real upside to his game.

You don't trade players with X-factor just about to hit their sweetspot for draft picks.

Been down this path before and its never worked out.

So we have finally come to the conclusion we need elite midfielders.... most of us on BF have been screaming this for about a decade.

What about Billings?

No one wanted to trade Billings 4 years ago cos he was the only one with x-factor, now he hasn’t progressed at all and isn’t worth a bag of chips.

I like Clark, but I’m not as big on him as most in here. I think he can do really good things that most can’t, but I can’t point to a single game he has really stamped himself other than glimpses. Even Billings has had games against the dogs and Carlton where he looked elite.
He’s been in the system 5 years and still isn’t AFL level fit and looks as slow as treacle when running defensively. I don’t know him and I could be wrong but I don’t think he has it in him to take the next step. Don’t Think he’s professional enough.
Compare Clark to Sydney’s youngsters who are all quick, fit and highly skilled and dominating in a Sydney team playing in a prelim.

I don't think Goddard was much good. Paddy maybe. Their kid was a woman basher and got the sack after not even seeing out his first season. Footy talent wasn't the issue. Picking a guy who had years in the system and never made it isn't even slightly equivalent. Goddard was also a first round pick , Taylor was pick 36.
