In only watching one highlights package, you've already identified what draft central has as his weaknesses and likely why he hasn't been drafted yet.

STRENGTHS: Kicking, strength, play reading, footy smarts
IMPROVEMENTS: Vertical leap, speed

This is what kills me with early picks, it’s not rocket science get guys actually watching games. I really want players with all the tools inside the top 20, certainly inside 10.

Will Gould anyone?
He was very good at the championships, it was hard to miss him big ruddy faced kid who had some dash. He’s a solid unit and maybe a bit short, I guess it depends how a club plans to use him. I’d be surprised if the SA clubs aren’t looking at him.

The top 5 are usually players who have had a great year and have many of the requirements. Great form is hard to overlook so a couple go a little higher and a few with the complete package but without the production slide a bit. I‘m just saying picking guys like dunstan in the first round isn’t the smartest thing imo.

I’d still like to see him launch, may can fly when he needs to.

At 198 cm he can stand his ground. He's thick through the hips and look hard to move off his spot. Looks heavier than he is like May. I don't think closing speed and launch are ever going to be his thing. He's an intercepting road block type. They seem to be pretty good assets in modern footy.

You can if you get three top 5 picks for free like Collingwood, or 2 top 5, and 3 top 15-20 picks for free like Sydney
The system is ridiculous imo, you do nothing at all yet get a massive boost often over struggling clubs. The afl don’t hand out assistance like priority picks with anywhere near the impact, sounds fair.

I wouldn’t get upset then with whatever we bring in at 9 if you think the difference is form between the top end of the draft and the bottom end of the top 10.

Ultimately, work ethic etc will be the main decider. But initially there will be a talent gap

Dunstan was a very late pick in R1 (No.18) and won the Rising Star in his first game of 2014. All indications he was the inside ball pig we required and he would develop into. That he didn't realise his junior potential isn't unusual in AFL football especially 10 years ago when the specialised training they get now wasn't available.
It was a good pick as the future can't be predicted. Get to end of R1 and beginning of R2 and it is a crap shoot. Win some, lose some.

Howard is mobile so he takes a guy like Cameron leaving someone to body up on teams with a monster. I’m not sure anyone outside of the draft has what we need long term but best available and ready to play is surely a priority this year and we‘ll have a few list spots. Can’t expect to draft a kid and say go stand hawkins, usually takes years to develop a key defender.

Whichever one is best suited to playing as a back-up full back given that's what the hole in our defensive stocks currently is?
Surely you take age and the future development into equation too though?

Maybe Hardigan is slightly ahead in terms of filling in for Howard because he's been in the AFL system, but maybe in 12 months the younger player goes past Howard?

Big no no for me - imagine the melts on here about having Pick 26 from the 2019 AND 2020 drafts on our lists and neither of them having played a game.

How about Jackson Callow - seems about the calibre of players we get linked to at this time of the year.

Gould has at least proven to be VFL quality. His form has been pretty good by all reports.

Maybe a straight swap for Allison? They will need a replacement for Buddy...

I wouldn't pick someone younger just because they are younger. Pick the best option to fill the need regardless of age.

Think we are in for a big trade period according to Sammy Edmund
Didn’t he essentially say **** all?

Of course it’s going to be a big period if we are looking at moving on 3 best 22 players.

We also have to fill 5 list positions before trading anyone out with only 3 picks (9,27,45) - Melbourne has our 4th rounder.

He was slow, a lousy kick, man size and ready to play seniors, he also had other qualities that made him a decent afl player. You can build a tank, it’s much harder to deal with poor kicking and nearly impossible to do much about pace. It’s not as much of a crap shoot for some teams. Expectations around those picks are rightly high and we need to nail them.

Said he is saving it for tomorrow as there was a bit of stuff

There wouldn't have been a supporter that wasn't happy with the Dunstan selection at the end of his first season. I'm sure all of us imagined some improvement from that strong start even just through ongoing experience at the level.
There was nothing to come. But how would anyone have known that?

They are just about to lose 3 mids , id say they need mids
They currently have
Ash
Green
Kelly

Angwin - pick 18
Callaghan - pick 3
Coniglio
O'Halloran
Ward
Whitfield
Toby Greene
Stone - pick 15

Bruhn
Taranto
Hopper

So 14 midfielders and more if you count guys who they are playing on a flank like Perryman , Kennedy , Brander and they no doubt will be getting high draft picks for the 3 they will lose so they will most probably pick up another top kid in the draft - i would say they have enough.
