Battle CHF

Taller than Roo

Awesome athlete

Absolute Bull

If there's anyone on our list with the potential to be a gun key forward it's Josh Battle

But commit to it. Don't put him there for 3 games in amongst shambolic ball movement and give up.

We won't though... we won't have the balls. "he's finally found his position"... no... he's just doing really well. Because he's a supreme athlete and a bull.

The answer is right under our noses, but we will lack the testicular fortitude to pull the trigger.

Agree with the call for experienced depth. We really need a big key defender that has some upside. Hartigan is an option but maybe we should be thinking younger. If Howard goes out we’re a bit short down there.

A key forward like Weideman makes sense too because they’ll primarily be playing forward, the time spent in the ruck is minimal. There’s a lot to like about Hayes but he’s returning from a serious injury.

The other thing is assessing those kids we have on our list already. Gallagher and Geary have sounded positive on Heath, he might be a chance later next year. I still haven’t written off Allison and Adams as options at both ends. Maybe one of them will make the step up but that’s probably not until 2024.

Battle has to stay in defence for mine, he's finally found some consistency. I don't think getting 20-30 goals a year of him up front is a good enough return for his talent.

Getting Rata from Geelong should be our target for that forward / ruck role. He's basically the only available player I'd want to see us trade for.

So far we've lost Hannebery, Geary, Kent, Ryder, Long and Joyce.

At this stage I'd be happy to do the following (assuming Bowes is off the cards):

  • Long for one of GC's 2nds (might need to throw back a future 3rd)
  • A second to Geelong for Rata and a future 3rd
  • Draft the best two mids available with our first two picks
  • Draft Ethan Philips if available with the third
  • Draft an SA special with our 4th
  • Sign Jed Anderson as a DFA

I’m all over the Scarlett Johansson situation as it’s a no brainer but that’s not going to change anything… Damn woman wants a bloody future second rounder headed back her way. Rates next year’s draft apparently.
I'd happily give a future 2nd rounder for Scarlett though...

Would you settle for a sloppy 2nd?

I like this, but it's not a game changer.
Would rather focus on an experienced FB and use Coops forward.

My concern with Sharman is that he isn't going to take a forward away from King (unless he develops significantly). Rata isn't a star by any means, but he's good enough that he needs somebody accountable for him.

I don't mind giving Sharman more time to develop. He seems pretty versatile so would rather see him play a third tall swing man, then be our second stay at home forward.

We actually have exactly what we need already in Hayes. If his round 1 performance was something he could do regularly we are a far, far better side. But don't want to bet the house on him just yet for obvious reasons.

Agree, the other consideration with Ratugolea was Geelong developed him as a key defender this year and by all accounts he played well.

He is the perfect swingman and someone who I believe the club should prioritise.

Geelong have had a few retire but if they get Bowes, Bruhn & Henry their cap may start to get tight, so they may be happy to off him for a 3rd round.

They’re all list cloggers. There is a reason why they aren’t getting games at their clubs.

We won’t improve by adding these types to our list.
None of them are what I'd call a list clogger

You need to have some ready to go depth on your list.

Every good club has those types on their list. Sydney had McLean, Ladhams and Amartey there ready to go if there was an injury or drop in form. In the end McLean found his way into a grand final side. He's no world beater.

If we get a few injuries and reliant on Matthew Allison as a back up we are in trouble.

Some good news re Ben Long. My eldest granddaughter who is friends with girls who know Saints players, (she organised Rowan Marshall to get me a signed Saints jumper and footy for my birthday) was talking to Ben Long on wednesday night, and he told her he was having second thoughts about leaving the Saints.

I've got the first 3 in the 22

But we need depth. At the moment outside of that we have Allison.

I think we need to get Marshall in the ruck. He just hasnt shown to be a dangerous forward. I was happy for him to play 2nd ruck when we had Ryder, but not keen on him playing second fiddle to Campbell
Philips to FB
Howard goes forward and chops out in the ruck 199cm it won't happen but we need to do something different next year to what we have done the last 2 years

Jack Graham has rejected a move to Port.

Hope we’re asking him the question. Would be a fantastic addition.

We need a depth player that can play ruck a bit. It's unlikely we are going to pick up a star in that area, some of those you mention are the only options I can see.
