I’d argue the opposite actually. Geelong got their two best players (Danger & Cameron) because they didn’t care about the money. Maybe if you get offered $1m more it might make a difference, but most seem happy with their nice pay packet.

100% this.

Good players will take less to play for good/big clubs.

There's not much you can do with 900k a year from the Saints that you couldn't do with 650k a year from the Tigers which is why they get BOTH Hopper & Taranto.

The cold reality is the Saints are ranked 8th AT BEST when it comes to picking a Vic club to play for.

Collingwood, Carlton, Richmond & Essendon will always have the lure of big crowds and marquee matches.

Geelong can offer a life 'off the grid' so to speak.

Hawthorn & Melbourne can boast big crowds when they are good.

That leaves St Kilda, the Dogs & North paying players way over market rate in order to bring them in.

It's not sustainable.

Walsh Hayes and a forward coach should make more improvements for the next few years than degoey would have or any draft pick.

Honestly no-one is coming to save us. We need to get the shit we have right. We are like a guy with a ****ed car who keeps buying more tools and blocking up the garage but has no mechanical skills. Just pay someone who knows what they are doing to fix it and start driving.

Until we get the coaching, list management and development right nothing is going to be a magic fix. If we improve next year it's by maximising what we have available

I heard Acres getting interviewed on SEN, Matt Rendall was saying that he didn't go after Acres because the day he was meant to go watch him play he was too distracted by Charlie Cameron to move onto the next match so Collingwood didn't chase Acres. Acres was saying how he was devastated because everyone wants to play for them. Quickly tried to pretend that he loved going to the Saints but not before sounding like he thought that he's missed out.

That's the difference in perception. Acres also talked about how much he loved the Freo club and the players there but disappointed that the low balled him. Not too much about the Saints. I don't think he has much love for us.

But we lost our future 4th in that disastrous trade with GC for Long ;)

Ben Long was one of the few players we had with some hard edge and a point of difference so he hurts losing him. It's probably overs for what he's achieved so far but he is still a disappointing loss. We took him at about pick 25 and turned him into a worse pick after development but it's still one of our most successful trade outs in years. Says a lot about how well we've been going in the last 5 years.

Surely they would take Clarke

Think they may using it in trades anyway

Yeah, they have been linked to Jhye Clark. That said they should just let him go to another club and bring him home in 2 years anyway.

Come on. there's nothing the footy gods love more then punching Saints fans in the balls. It will happen and he will become an absolute champion as well, walk in and replace Selwood. It's written in the stars haha

Or we'll all rejoice when he slips through to us and he's the only C grade player in the first round and those either side of him are in discussion for GOAT status. Footy gods hate us.

You heard it a little different to me.
But i did hear...... "The culture at Fremantle is amazing, the best culture of any AFL club I've been involved with ".

Sammy Edmonds on sen just said hunter Clark is staying. Bad luck norf

Would preferred to keep Long was commenting on the bruhaha over the future 4th in the deal. Apparently Cordy has a bit of mongrel so we get a bit back.

Getting in before all the melts at the absolute inevitability of Geelong taking McKenzie with pick 7.....
I really really hope this happens, will just highlight what I have been saying about the AFL and them making the likes of us the Washington Generals of the League

That's good.

Hopefully this situation also lights a fire under him for next year.
The frustrating part with Hunter is he's scratching the surface of his potential.

I remember a guy like Andrew Thompson, Hunter would have more natural talent in his little finger than Thommo but Thommo would apparently train his date off, extra sessions, extra running, weights etc. to get the absolute best out of himself.

Hopefully this acts as motivation for Hunter to get his body in absolute mickey mouse condition for next year.

I would say a large majority of players that are traded for picks are traded for worse than the pick they were drafted for. Bit of a reach to again criticise the club here.
