Jeez, feeding off the scraps of a team that made a first round finals exit isn't exactly selling hope to the members is it, would prefer we give Hayes and Sharman an opportunity before Schache.

I don't even want Schache for depth, if King, Sharman and Hayes are all injured we could still chuck Battle up forward, bring in Campbell and have Marshall rest up forward and we'd still have Membrey.

Weiderman made some sense if he could chop out in the ruck, Schache would just be a list clogger.
I don't see where they finished on the ladder as very relevant.

They made a GF 12 months ago.

We need depth in our key position stocks. If he comes for nothing I don't have an issue with it.

Still leaves us with 4 or 5 spots to fill with draft picks

Yeah that's a really weird thing that seems to have surfaced recently in Australia. I mean: different pronunciation, different spelling, but still...

I first heard it on SEN.

"He's got he's footy career well on track". sort of things.
Nearly annoying how Gary Lion has them all saying "Fiddy" instead of fifty. I don't think i ever heard anyone say "fiddy". I must have moved in the wrong circles.

A fair bit to play out yet.

We've had 4 players retire, delisted 2 others and traded Ben Long (that's without new contracts for Byrnes, Bytel and Leinert) so we certainly won't be filling all those gaps at draft time.

Some lesser names will no doubt join us - so get ready for some melts!!!
Pretty sure Byrnes is still in contract.
I’d rather keep our own lesser names in Bytel and Lienart than get the same From other teams.

Someone said it before but in all likelihood Clark is just a nice idea for North not a need.

Just said on TR that North were very interested but the Saints wont be trading Clark.

So again they stick to what was posted here a month ago, unless we got a very good deal that was overs for Clark, he would stay.

Never say never but it would have to be a Weller scenario for us to now move Clark, highly unlikely.

Time for Clark to take onboard what he has been told about his level of commitment and put his arse in gear.

Let’s see this resolve when North come hard at us once JHF is traded.

Well Saints playing it well. Saying we are resolved to keep him is right down the Freo Lachie Weller play book.

Worst case scenario is we keep Clark which I would be happy with, best case is we get big overs.

A really good position to be in.

Scoops having a meltdown. Hahahahahahaha spanner
Should have read bigfooty.

But in all honesty. I wouldn’t be taking anything as gospel until JHF is traded and there is legitimate picks to get a deal done.

Then we will see how much spine we have.

Shock horror… big footy scoop a month ago 🙄

Will be interesting to see if Hunter Clark's onfield form is influenced by this trade period.

It feels like it could go either way. Either he takes the Saints willingness to trade him as an insult, and he struggles to make an impact next year. Or he sees it as a kick up the arse, and is motivated to try harder both on gameday and in the preseason.

The former would be terrible for us, as it would see him probably head to North when his contract is up for significantly less than what we'd get this year. The latter would be great for both the Saints and probably Hunter himself, as he definitely has the potential to be a great player, he just hasn't yet met it.

Clark has had the same feedback in both his last 2 exit meetings. The most recent was the most direct and challenging.

If he can’t perform because he has cracked the sads at being challenged by his employer. Then he isn’t going to be the player who takes us forward either.

Yeah I think you're right on Byrnes. Even if Bytel and Leinert stay we won't be selecting 5 young players in the draft.

I've got no problems with a couple more mature agers whether they are from state league or de-listed AFL players. May still get a couple through trades before Wednesday.

Prefer a ruck forward type - Weiderman gone so that's maybe Schache is still a target but that will depend on Lobb. The question then would be whether he costs us in trade picks or we could get him as a de- listed player.

I was a bit keen on another mid who was struggling to get a starting spot at another club - Setterfield was a thought but he's gone as well now - not sure who else may be available.

And for what it’s worth.

Seeing as this has played out verbatim to the info I posted here.

North want to get a deal done.

So there is every chance if they have the picks. One will get done.

But as I said. We want a good deal. This isn’t a fire sale. We obviously still believe Clark can be a good footballer. But the club obviously think they aren’t wedded to him either. 👍

Sammy Edmonds with news about hunter Clark after this break on sen.

Then the stage is set, because North Melb are closely following the Gold Coast playbook:
  • Winning stuff all games over multiple seasons
  • Early pick wants to leave soon after being drafted

Desperation for results could see them do something stupid

Whatever happens next year I feel Scott will get the best out of them - he had Nth playing finals with a very average side.
It's a bit of a furphy that Scott's Norf teams were average. They were very good teams, just not as good as the teams above them.

They had some outstanding players in their prime (Cunnington Ziebell Waite Higgins Goldy Gibson & Boomer still going strong).

If he sulks and plays poorly it doesn't help him either way.
His next contract , whether at the Saints or somewhere else will depend on his footy.

If his attitude is "boo hoo, others are being selected in front of me " it won't help him in any team.
