Cerra out (inj) and Dow in for a full game. Bring in Binns for a debut (sub).

As much as I loathe the idea of debuting a kid as a sub, he has consistently been one of our best and is going at 30+ average and a goal for the best part of the season. After a big 3 weeks and heavy toil, it be a good game to bring in some fresh blood for.

Sadly I doubt we'll see him this year and it'll be Ed in as sub.

I think Jim has been through this. But we got away with playing both Pitto and TDK against a side on a (slightly) shorter interstate break, who had played in what many are describing (because of its intensity) as the game of the year. Couple that with illness in the Collingwood camp during the week, and it means we were able to prevail with a non-optimal setup.

Who’s to say we didn’t have some players with flu symptoms we just didn’t go with preemptive excuses before game

Jim has been through it because he quite simply wants Pittonet out of the team. And Kennedy, and Newman (although he has gone quieter on that front recently). There is no logic to it he just doesn't rate them. You might want to find another horse to tie your wagon up to.

The purpose of having Pittonet/TDK both in the team is to give us the best chance of prevailing at centre bounces (which we did) and to ensure that Collingwood couldn't double and triple team Charlie up forward (which was pretty successful). Whilst Harry and jsos are out (and probably when they are back) that's how we are likely to roll.

I don't for one second subscribe to the collingwood were jaded/had a virus theory. Sounds just like a way to try and downplay our win. So far we've had who have we played/port had a heap out and now we're offering Collingwood excuses? We had two of the best players in the comp out in Harry McKay and Sam Walsh and lost our best player for the season in Adam Cerra just after half time. If anyone had excuses it was us.

Selection structure wise has been interesting the last 2 months

Normally I prefer 2 genuine KPDs, but with Young struggling, we have gone with the extra 3rd tall

Think Voss's mantra has been embedded in selection, more aggressive/contested types on every line
It might be that they've decide the positives of pairing Kemp with Weitering outweighs the negatives. We'll likely concede a couple of goals to the oppositions key/tall forwards, however our ball movement out of the back half is significantly better, we have more score launches from rebounding, and the intensity in terms of pressure in open play is greater.

I think it also helps that Newman, Boyd & Saad are all reasonably good at getting a hand in and spoiling a marking contest too.

I have no doubt that Collingwood and some in the media are underselling us (I posted on this after the game). It is meritorious for us to have won without so many key players. For their own psyche, the Magpies need to undersell us.

I also do see the benefit of playing TDK forward to stretch them. I agree that the Charlie / TDK / Jack Martin triumvirate stretched them.

But equally, I think it’s a bit black and white (pun intended) to write off tiredness and illnesses altogether as a factor going against Collingwood in that game. They would have been impacted.

I also think that if there is a main weakness to our team, it is lack of run. Marvel has always been a fast track, and the Saints have runners. Our style of football last week was also maniacal. While we have a 9-day break, that may take a load on bodies.

In the end, we may load up on talls again and see how we go. But for this game, I think we’d be smarter to go with TDK as the solitary ruck and work to ensure we have the legs to match them on the ground. St Kilda are a different opponent.

Kemps pace and game awareness enables him to rush through what would normally balls run onto for easy goals.

Howard is out injured so that only leaves them with Battle and Wilkie down back. TDK should be able to stretch them. Deeper entries will prevent the rebound we normally see from them.

But we haven't loaded up on talls at all. Last year we were playing Young down back, Pitto/TDK more other than not when both were available. Harry and JSOS up forward.

We've made a conscious decision to go smaller and quicker down back and risk being burned by a second tall forward. By necessity our forward line is much shorter with Harry and to a lesser extent JSOS out.

Who would back him up?
Can't see us going into the game with single tall forward (being an not overly tall Charlie), a single true key sized defender, and 1 ruckman.

Need another marking forward.

Another smug opposition supporter coming over on our board once again trying to stir the pot throwing out meaningless crap…
Another rinse and repeat moron who after Sunday’s game will not be heard from again, thank ****…

One thing I do notice with TDK, is that when he drifts down back he takes one grab marks, but when forward gets his hands to so many balls but spills them.
Past couple of games TDK has missed I’d say over 15 marks that he has either got his hands to or dropped easy ones he should have taken…

He’ll take his game to another level once he starts plucking them regularly…
