Us 16 game winning streak 95. Lions 16 game winning streak 2001... Geelong 16 game streak last year... Keep the streak alive would be on Vossy's mind... he wouldn't be too fluffed if we lost playing our way... but wouldn't be too happy if players used our safety of being in finals as an out not to do our best with the 22 we have on the park, considering our focus against Suns for parts of the game was sub-par.

You don't do a hurried kick into the corridor when you've got team mates on by hand in the dying stages of close games.
armchair decision making at its finest .....

I want them buzzing, and carrying their momentum into the finals with another win. But I'm honestly expecting that this weekend will probably see a less physical, slower, more possession-based game from us, and if GWS want or, more importantly, need to win the game then they may be more prepared to crack in.

I'm certainly not going to be surprised or even that disappointed if we're not at our absolute peak this week.

That was supposed to happen the last few weeks too...

Maybe you're right and all those factors you mention will play into their performance.

Fact is, selection is tight and they'd know that. Each player going out there bar the top tier non negotiables wouldn't want to put in a lack lustre effort because it could mean they miss playing in the first final.

Plus they have the luxury of a rest the week after anyway, so no reason why they shouldn't be able to turn up with the application and intent that got us where we are in the first place.

We should rest Cripps though. Walsh and Cerra to come in so he could do with the extra week to recover.

fair chunk of the group have looked pretty gassed to me. I'd be happy to rest anyone who needs it, and to delay Walsh and Cerra if they aren't 100% good to go. Port won 13 on the trot and were pretty smashed up by the end of it. I just don't think it is possible to maintain the highest of levels indefinitely.
Though not flirting with form is the counter issue. Honestly, it is a tough one.

Ins: Boyd, McGovern, Cerra, Walsh, Fogarty
Outs: Cincotta, Fisher, Cripps, Cuningham, E Curnow
Hollands sub

Tough selection. Really want to keep Cunners, Hollands and Fisher but think all are on the cusp. Fisher, for all his impressive work in the past three weeks will be exposed defensively in finals.
Dow or Cuningham? With Cripps out and Cerra/Walsh coming back, we need more grunt for one more week.
Can we go with all of McGovern, Marchbank and Kemp? Get the feeling Marchy is highly rated and Kemp and McGovern are agile enough to play against mediums/smalls. Docherty goes back?
Pittonet serves an important role of immovable force. That, and the lack of a viable alternative, serve to support his continued selection.
I Like this...
But easily Gov in for Marchy, then it gets tougher, Fog applies far more pressure and tackle numbers than Dave(but is slower), Boyd's got far more intensity and is a much better blanketing defender than Fish(our small defenders were loose as, in the first half vs. Suns) will lose a bit of outside possession numbers though.
Friday night team selection will be enthralling.

I like the way Voss has sent Newman hard up behind the CBB clearances - replacing Docherty who has had to do a lot of heavy lifting - has worked a treat. With the ground ball engine room getting back to full strength ( sans Kennedy probably) Docherty can revert back to what Newman has been slotted into and provide extra straight line run - either way it is working. Docherty is also better off rotating HBF and wing as required than being a link man like Walsh/Cerra/Kennedy - hasnt got the disposal efficiency for the job. Acres and Hollands have high footy IQ - knowing when to hold width and when to come in hard...cant believe how good Hollands is already..

oh the GWS game?

Whoever Voss selects and for whatever reason - they will all know that they are playing for spots in finals and kicking GWS out of finals contention after their big win agsainst the "done's" would be a nice end to H&A achievements...

The more games played at the G the better.

First up against Sydney at the G would be perfect - avoid the Ross Lyon melee and joe the goose traps and we owe Sydney an elimination finals exit.

Come the bounce of the ball we will know if we are guaranteed 5th or 6th

If we have secured a home final, then it wouldn't surprise me if we rest banged up players like Cripps and or resting important players

So, all our emergencies might get a late call up
that would be awesome. and I reckon we'd still be a decent chance to win.

bring in the binns.

Real good gutsy win by us on Saturday.

IMO, regarding selection dibs, quite a few of the guys on the edges had chances to thrust their hand up, but didn't quite do it.

Marchy, Cincotta, Cunners, and Boyd in the 2's all went pretty ordinary. Even Kempy looked edgy again all match after looking very confident and composed for a month. They missed an opportunity to further stake their claim. Fish and Dow i thought played well and strengthened their chances. Probably hasn't hurt Fog to miss funnily enough.

Are Kanga and JSOS still right in the mix?

Probably some "managing" this weekend coming, but boy oh boy thursday fortnights selection is gonna be fascinating. Can't wait to see our thinking.

I found it interesting that both Voss (in his presser) and Charlie (in his post-match interview) said a version of the same thing: we don't just want to make finals, we want to impact finals. Given how quickly it came to both of them, it was clear that this has been a line used internally already. If so, it's brilliant, as it means that after the high of last week, there is already a mental counter-balance for the risk of feel that the year's mission was already accomplished.

Given that, I expect that we'll see the same intensity as we've gotten used to. If for no other reason, there might be guys playing for their spots in the team in a finals campaign.

Voss has played his best 22/3 all year whenever they've been available - would be surprised to see any changes apart from injury.

In my mind the only genuine questions re selections might be Cuningham V Fogarty. The backs pick themselves as do the mids as do the emergencies - been consistent selection strategy ever since Cncotta replaced Cowan, Kemp replaced Young and Martin + Cuningham became available - oh and Pittonet became available.

Anyone who half steps or misses one to many tackles or doesn't go when it is their turn to go - is given a long holiday.

One positive, no matter the outcome we don't end up playing the hoodoo Saints... Sydney (either home or away with question marks over some big player availability), GWS (would have to be in Melb and we'd have a sighter of how to tackle the next round at a more conducive ground) or Bulldogs who even at our worst we almost found a way.
