Come the bounce of the ball we will know if we are guaranteed 5th or 6th

If we have secured a home final, then it wouldn't surprise me if we rest banged up players like Cripps and or resting important players

So, all our emergencies might get a late call up
GWS may do something similar if they can only make 8th. If Dogs win and the rest lose it may be worth giving GWS some false hope or even zero hope if we rest and still knock them off.

It’s super hard to rest players for resting sake

Eg resting Charlie, Wieters, Saad, Martin, Cripps and Doc would be fantastic

However your putting huge pressure on who’s coming in and what’s left in the side…still think we will see 4 changes

Out: Cripps, Docherty, Cuningham, Martin (all rested)

In: Walsh, Kennedy, Boyd, Binns

I don’t want to come across as picking on your post as I’ve seen a few posters name Binns this week which I just do not understand. Yes it’s quite possible as we may know our position and our opponent for the finals by the time our game starts in which case we can rest some key players but surely if that’s the case then we’d replace them with blokes who we are likely to play in the finals.

With all due respect to Binns if he is picked for a final I would be shocked in a bad way. There’s enough fringe 23 players jostling for a spot in the finals team to select ahead of giving Binns a debut game. I’d much rather blokes who’ve been in league side this year and will be vying for finals get a game like Ed, Cotts, Fish, Cinc, Cunners, Fog, Boyd, Hollands etc than giving a game to a debutant who likely won’t play in the finals.

I don’t quite follow…Gov is one of the fastest players in the team and definitely faster than Cinc!

So it only makes us a more mobile team than what we’ve been for the last few weeks.
He’s nowhere near as fast as Cincotta, he has less mobility and agility and is limited on who he can currently be matched up on…
He’s not particularly good one on one on players his size in contested situations, atm he’s a good floating 3rd tall who reads the play well to intercept, below average in decision making and is prone to make some ordinary mistakes…
I understand he’s missed a fair amount of footy and is highly regarded by many (including myself) but at the moment he’s not playing a good enough brand to be an automatic selection, particularly infront of Gov…
Hopefully in time he can improve certain aspects of his game that has him considered an automatic selection, imo atm he has some deficiencies to work/improve on…

So if we rest players that’s two weeks off…..is that too longer break? Plus I’m nervous about flirting with form…
I’m with you.

If a player is carrying an injury (ie cripptonite) rest them for recovery but otherwise they keep playing. They all get a week off before finals anyway so no rest for the sake of it.

Im a flusher at the range. But when I'm on the course I s**t bricks.
You are trying to hard- when I need to smash one - I say to myself out loud.."loosie goosie" and then add a jiggle to my wiggle

No need to rest players unless they are injured. There's nearly two weeks between games and it's important to keep the momentum going before the two week freshen up. Most teams that went on winning streaks lost multiple games in a row when they finally lost.

If this was a first final, I go with

Boyd Weitering Newman
Gov Kemp Saad
7th Cincotta or Fisher

Pitto Cerra Hewett
Cotts Cripps Acres

Fog TDK Martin
Charlie Harry Owies

Int: Mots, Walsh, Doc, Cincotta or Fisher

Sub from Hollands, Cuners, Jsos, Dow, Kennedy, Fisher or Cincotta

I can’t see Boyd forcing his way in as he hasn’t played league since round 18. Same goes with Matty K given he has missed more footy and we may not have the reserves still playing in finals.

Tough calls will need to be made on the following positional choices:
Pitto or Sos
Kemp or Marchy
Cunners or Fogs
Cotts or Hollands

IMO the week 1 finals team is:
Kemp/Weitering/Saad
Newman/Gov/Cincotta
Acres/Cripps/Doc
Martin/Harry/Cunners
Owies/Charlie/TDK
Pitto/Cerra/Walsh
Hewett/Fisher/Cotts/Mots
sub: Dow or Sos

Carlton won’t give their stars an extra week to recover before the finals, with Sam Walsh and Adam Cerra returning to face GWS. Plus Mitch McGovern is back and the latest on Matt Kennedy.

Normally I’d agree but Cripps and Doc clearly played injured last week against Gold Coast and it showed. It was great of them as leaders to be out there to lock in our finals berth but they could do with a rest now. IMO there’s a lot of benefit giving them a two week break at this stage of the year, especially when their replacements are likely Cerra and Walsh.

Definitely won't play in finals. It's less about rating Binns ahead of others, more about giving players a well earned rest.

Looks like we'll be playing close to a full strength team anyway. Cerra, Kennedy, McGovern, Walsh are all fit and ready.

I think for the older players like Cripps and Doc it should be a nice chance to completely freshen up, same goes for the younger players it’s a long season and taxing mentally as much as on the body…
