I’m obviously the only one but I’d be a little nervous playing the dogs the first week. Our contested ball is our go to and so is theirs. Yes they’ve been patchy but they did beat us. So would like to win this week to keep them out.

I reckon Melbourne will beat Collingwood week one setting up a huge second week if we win week one. Nothing would be sweeter than knocking them out in straight sets after last year.
Im more worried playing GWS first week of finals than the doggies. we've had the dogs measure for a few years now. even earlier this year we play shiten and were 30 points down in the third, were sill hit the front at 20 min mark of the last.

If doggie's lose can see it being a bit bruise free, and the coaches/teams will just feel each other out in preparation for next week.

I was there on Saturday, Newman , Cripps and Doc looked very sore in the last quarter
Newman has become our most important defender (imo) so if he’s a bit banged up please give him a spell along with Cripps,Cunno and Doc
Whilst continuing our unbeaten run is important, the elimination final is obviously the one we need to have a clean bill of health for

I wouldn’t be too concerned with our efforts on Saturday

It was bloody hot with no cloud cover at all
Our blokes wouldn’t have been used to it
We definitely would’ve lost this game in the past so great signs
Go u baggers 👍💪
As others have said, a 2 week 'rest' is a long time without footy.

They get 8 days break this week, most should be fine in that time.

Cripps the only obvious one to have the extra week off....

Don’t wanna kill Bambi but for season 23, Marchbank is depth and if McGov is ready then he should make way. I’d have JSOS on the bench in his place as JSOS is cleaner , reads play better and more flexible.
McGovern IMO is best 22. But does that mean Marchbank and Kemp are up for the same spot?

Really hope we keep the smaller lineup that’s been working so well for us. Hope we don’t play both of Marchbank and McGovern and I think Pittonet needs to go out of the team. Play the runners.
I'm with you, in 2023 run is king.

Does that mean we Play DeKoning 1st ruck and McKay 2nd ruck/forward and rotate the two? Keeps the smaller faster forward line and enables us to have the two tall forwards as well.

Gov will come in, so I would say yes, Kemp and Marchbank are up for the same spot

At this stage, Kemp is ahead of Marchbank
Yep we must keep Kemp ahead of Marchy as our third tall back option, beats me how anyone can have Marchy ahead of him at this stage - and I’m a Marchy fan too. Nice to have this sort of back depth.

Resting players is only going to happen if they really need it. Some players also respond well to a rest and others not so much. For example I think Cerra will come back out of form and Walsh will be fine, just going on previous expierences. McKay as we saw is dreadfully out of form, has no match fitness.

Remember rest a player this week they go into finals with two weeks of not having played footy, in a finals game with a lot of pressure, that counts for a lot. A lot of what match fitness is about is performing under pressure, just having the skills and mind just that little bit more finer tuned.

Docherty, Cripps, Saad have had big seasons, they could sit out.

Gee it's going to be hard to pick the team. I'm hoping we don't play a really red hot side come round 1 of finals as I think we may need a soft game first up. Get through that and we should be right.

IMO the first game of finals won't be the strongest side we will face but could be the hardest game of the series with so many players potentially lacking match fitness.

Yes that’s exactly what I’d do. Overlap run from half back, outside runners alongside a dominant on ball brigade and forward pressure are what has been working for us. Must keep the smaller lineup.

I don’t think this is rocket science. They’ll be desperate to get games into Walsh, Cerra, McGovern. They won’t want to lose too much continuity going into finals. If Cripps and Doc genuinely need a rest, fine, but otherwise I reckon 3-4 changes tops. If everyone fit, Kemp or Marchie for Mitch, then Ed, and Cunners the unlucky ones.

Fog is the really tricky one. I want him back in the side immediately but for who? Mots and Owies don’t deserve to be dropped and I quite like the three of them for their defensive intensity. Who goes out?

Kemp ain’t getting dropped.

We're not playing H (especially coming back from a knee injury) as a ruckman.

I don't think we will but it's the only way we keep two good marking options forward and maintain that forward speed and pressure.

TBH when he was first recruited I thought great, a top level forward/ruck and early days did play that role a little but quickly evolved into a pure forward.

It's too late in the season to do it now, but it's something we need to think about.

We also need to consider we may be carrying a very out of form McKay into a finals series and the way to get the most out of him and get him into the game would be ruck.

To remind us of a similar scenario, go back to 2016 and remember Boyd's final series, particularly his grand final game. Could we do a Boyd 2016 with McKay? Same situation in many ways, coming from 5th, ruckman size forward a bit out of form, moves into the ruck and becomes a match winner in a grand final.

As for the knee injury, it's not the sort of knee injury you worry about re-doing. It's cartilage removal. Had it done, once it's right it's right.

In terms of immediate continuity and output Kemp is ahead of Marchbank. Also exposing and putting this exposure and experience into Kemp statistically will be of more benefit to us and the team in future based on the lack of continuity Marchbank has had during his career.
