Problem with our academy talls, the strike rate of them working out is low. Look at the history. Other than Andrews and Hipwood it has been a grim list. Even players that were drafted by other clubs i.e Chol whom isn't a world beater
Payne, three talls all playing senior footy is prety good strike rate.

True

Then you have people like Ballenden, Fullarton, Chol, Freeman, Smith, Bourke?, Hammelmann

My point is we can't rely on the academy producing a good tall for us - we still need to look elsewhere and can't rely solely on this guy next year. If there is a chance to get someone this year, we get that someone this year. We don't wait for next year.

Given the 3 named above will likely play 200 games and only 5% of footballers play 209 games we're going ok

Didn't we just recruit Doedee as a free agent and what makes you so sure that we will not pick tall/s in this year’s draft? Also the club may have assessed that we are happy with the coverage provided by Smith, Lane, Fort, Gunston, Joyce, Doedee all non academy which indicates we have not been relying on the academy producing a good tall for us.

Not seen anyone in the recent conversation chain suggesting that we just wait on improving list spots until academy kids are picked and then developed though... I think everyone would broadly agree with "yes, improve our list straight away".

Last year we brought in:
Dunkley, Gunston, Ashcroft, Fletcher, McKenna, Joyce, Bain & McDowell-White
We lost McStay & Tom Berry and some others that were not needed.

This year we take our medicine draft wise for last years intake.
Hopefully the club can find suitable replacements for anyone moving or delisted.
Doedee looks like he will be a Lion.
Looking forward to see what the club does to replace other players.

One thing the Bulldogs recruitment team has always done well is recruiting mature aged players from the lower leagues.

Will be interesting to see if the list management team gets forced to have a better look at some of these players in the coming years with the concessions Tassie will get in multiple drafts.

Most of those players fill out their reserves of the bottom 6 of their 22, and many dogs fans dislike that bevo is inclined to pick them.

Dom was just on trade radio. Said hoping Doedee gets through without a match and will work with Melbourne on a sensible deal for Fullarton.

Otherwise we don’t expect to be very active. This years focus has been on retention.

They also tend to make a bit of a splash initially and then get delisted in a couple of years. Probably the SC effect in part too.

Very. Dare I say preparing the ground for McKay being pick 3 compo?

More seriously, last year of calculating FA compo before the new CBA - clubs perhaps offering more to FA already factoring in CBA years but calculation/formula not there yet.

Jesus the free agency compensation looking very generous this year
My first thought too - pick 19 seems high, but then the other examples so far (Flynn and Jordan) were also a band higher than expected.
