To be honest I think it’s going to happen 2024/2025 (or at least squad), which is why I was surprised he extended so early

Smart of us to get in before the CBA inflated the number of bonus Pepsi maxes we’d have to buy him after a win.

i know hes the most likely player to be squeezed out for lohmann, but i think mccarthy has had a deceptively good season that is not fully reflected in the stats sheet and it will take quite a bit for lohmann to move past him

going into this year the coaches were all stating that the focus for our team in the preseason was to improve our team defence and have everyone in the team buy into this - the switch of murray and adcock was said specifically in media somewhere to be a part of bringing a more defensive edge to the forward line.

mccarthy has really epitomised this for me as one who has bought in absolutely to team defence. very rarely see him flying high for marks and using his aerial skills this year, but his forward pressure has really lifted and been a significant part of our forward half game.
McCarthy has been brilliant this year, in his usual, understated way. He demands the constant attention of defenders and since Rd.16 he has hit a good run of form, picking up one or two goals in every game. Having kicked 24 goals / 10 behinds, his accuracy is also a bonus for us. Alongside Zac Bailey who has kicked 27 goals / 18 behinds, he is a natural in the forward line

wouldnt be surprised if wilmot is an all-australian by the time his next contract extension is announced now
Big wrap and on the money I think! He kind of reminds me of a young Chris Johnson. A few preseasons and with developing physical maturity and he could be anything.

I think Lohmann made the right decision. It gives him the opportunity to develop his skills in a great side and gives him more leverage when he is looking for a new contract. He would have been offered a multi year deal on better money but has chosen instead to stay loyal and develop his craft in a better side.

I didn’t think it would at the time but maybe being sub in a top 2 team and showing him he is basically on the line of being a regular was actually very effective. Subject to form I would like to see him begin starting games to get a feel for it the top level a bit more and to be less of a wildcard for our structures when he comes on.

Honestly I've been astounded by what Lester has been able to do since he got his opportunity.

Particularly his capacity to know when to take the chance to create some run upfield and execute on it. But all aspects of his game are better than I'd imagined they could be.

I had him placed in a box of being the great clubman thing and break glass in emergency type of player whom you brought in to plug a hole and not stuff up.

Despite all the evidence to the contrary some people still have him in that box . He gets a big shout out on the rare occasions his supposed deficiencies are exposed during the game
I also suspect that being a Premiership Player is also going to strengthen Lester’s hold on a spot in the Seniors next year.

Even with a two year deal, the option is still there for Kai to request a trade if he's not playing regular seniors by the end of next year. Obviously a good outcome for the club but I think it still works for Kai in terms of his future.

I think he needs to spend the summer getting super fit, improve his defensive game and then aim himself at Zorko's spot in the best 22. Different players, for sure, but I think he needs to aim to become a 15-20 touch, connecting, pressuring high half forward

20 touches would make him about our 3rd-4th highest possession getter.

I’d be happy for 10-15 high impact touches (including a goal / few score assists) and plenty of tackles or pressure acts.

Tbh he has 20+ a game in him when fit.

Hopefully the collar bone heals quickly and he gets a full pre season in - something he hasn't had the chance to do yet. Will make a big difference I suspect.

Perhaps. 20 touches in this Lions team is equivalent to 45 for the Bulldogs.

Well let's hope his body is finally holding up after 4 years of breakdowns

I think if he plays on he doesn't play more than 14-18 games even if he stays fully fit. He's been great the last 3-4 weeks because he's had a clean run at it, will need to be carefully managed at age 35.

One thing to take out of all this is those who have recently put themselves as “in the know” are just bullshitting. This forum isn’t as “tuned in” as it used to be.

It’s not over until it’s over. Great signings. Hopefully Dev follows but he looked a little sheepish in the news video.

Didn't recall any posts saying he won't play for us next year

But good for you

Plenty if you open your eyes. Read between the lines. Nothing is as black as white as you need it to be.

No and that's the point. Most of the rumours were around him exploring his options and that seems to be the case.

But no, make this about how smart you are and how dumb everyone else is

Sheepish in which videos?
Haven’t seen anything.

Pretty sure the bulk of the Kai talk come from media sources not from on here.
Everyone will make their own judgements from there as to whether they think he will leave or stay, that is just human nature.

What the actual ****. You got some issues with what I posted? You’re the one who read my post as such. You need to get some perspective dude. It seems you and your pet have these tainted glasses on when reading anything I post is to be interpreted as some veiled dig at either the club or supporters.

If true this warped perception would be a marvellous case study.

I never intend as such and if I do I make it fairly clear. Just enjoy the hype of a prelim and our best shot at a GF in 20 years.

lets not forget Dizzy has played well over 150 AFL games, and will do a role. I would prefer, even a slightly impeded Payne, but Dizzy will be very motivated and expect him to perform a role. I seriously doubt we lose the game because of Dizzy. I am pretty confident we win this.
No doubt that Gardiner will give it his absolute best, no doubt. In light of his injuries though and poor form in his only two senior games, in rounds 11 and 13, I still would prefer Payne carrying a niggle to Darcy. You are right of course, On the quiet Gardiner probably wouldn’t cost us the game, but getting dropped for a Grand Final, should Payne be available will hurt.

From what I recall, Twomey was the first AFL media to mention Lohmann as a trade target for the Bulldogs in the first or second episode of his weekly podcast this year. We’re now up to episode 24.

All discussion on here originated from that episode, and subsequent articles.

I don’t recall anyone here claiming to have any inside word on Lohmann, or any other player.
