The DeKoning situation is a worry for me. He’s got a lot of talent and having him on the list would hardly be bad but it’s blindingly obvious him and Marshall are very similar and both need to play the same position to thrive. Marshall has a good 5 years left hopefully. This looks very familiar with SOS’s problem at Carlton of trading in players he drafted at the Giants for overs. If we do get him we absolutely cannot be trading anything of value. If he was a free agent then ok throw some money at his potential but not at the expense of trading out of the early rounds of the draft.
Would MUCH rather we go after Matt Flynn from GWS. He's a very solid citizen, 25yo unrestricted free agent.

No Draft picks given up and is a genuine ruckman.

Hit the Draft as much as we can prior to Tassie

I was always pro drafting when we were trying to create a future side ready for finals. Now we are in a finals cycle it should flip around to trading in and chasing free agents. That's why I said it was arse about at the time.

Most of our list will be gone when Tassie comes in. If we've been playing finals and win a flag before then we should be able to attract established talent in and do a Hawks. We should be bringing in missing pieces while trying to bring in at least some youth every year but the main objective should be to win a flag while we still have Sincs, Crouch, Steele, Marshall, Wood, Webster, Membrey etc.

Max King will be 27 by the time Tassie come in. Sincs 33, Ross and Hill 34. If we are still rebuilding then it's probably too late. We are going to time it badly if we are rebuilding again when they come in so probably do need to keep bringing at least a decent level of young players coming through. Should probably be chasing players under 25 even if they are established. Otherwise we will be trying to load up at the worst possible time.

Sam Naismith would be one I'd chase averaging 43 hit outs per game this year in the VFL. Sydney got rid of him because Hickey took his spot. Missed 2 years because the surgeon botched his knee reco. Second highest hit out average in the VFL this year but higher fantasy scores that Sweet from the Dogs who is leading in hit out averages.

The other one is Wylie Buzza, he's playing VFL at the Brions and is scoring heavily this year and can back up ruck. 16.2 in 5 games.

What's Billy Longer up to these days?

He's 30 but that's prime for a ruckman and he was really good before the knee lay off. He'd be a handy fill in for a few years until Moose comes on.

Concussion history anyway, and a "running game" wouldn't have exactly suited old Billy anyway.
The Longer/Hickey thing was an ongoing joke, but Longer's hitout numbers in 2017 were pretty epic. I like to look back on players for the good things they did where possible.

Not always easy.
Raph getting run down, Kozzie getting taken out, and Farren Ray kicking drifting behinds when we needed goals are pretty unshakeable images.
Shanahan watching Jarman run circles around him....not always easy.

Whilst on my recent holiday, I did have an idea about the Ben King situation that I'm not sure has been discussed as yet.

If, as has been suggested The Filth manage to snag Ben, what happens next, if the brothers actually harbour a strong desire
to one day play together in the same AFL team ?

You guessed it. Max goes to the Pies as a free agent. Or am I over thinking this ?

Sounds like you need another holiday mate. No need to stress over 25 “what ifs”.

So you rate Webster these days?

That depends, which one is the evil twin

I doubt we are?

Why would we be interested in Kai Owens???

Because I think he can be a very capable AFL player. He’s seriously too good to be playing VFL level.

He’s 193 cm and playing midfield. Can also play forward. He actually plays a lot like his brother mitchito.

He’s playing right now. First qtr already two goals and 7 disposals.

I really think he’d be a great mid season draft option.

Is he a need? Probably not. But I’d rather draft him then some development player (Sharman, mayo)

Been watching a bit if this game, he definitely looks like he has improved a lot since his time at Sandy

We could pinch one and not mortgage the future. I‘m confident we have the right people in place and I really hope we keep investing in youth with some carefully targeted additions.

I meant Naismith not Longer.
