Just as an aside, the optimistic in me thinks Paton could be a star in his position, eg - being the best small forward stopper in the game.

But, I’m thinking back to 2020 when he was thriving and regularly doing a job on quality players whilst Webster was out injured for the year.

Admittedly his current position has a bit more flexibility now that Webster is back and also a high quality, underrated player. And he would be perceived as a GOP by most, but I still think the potential is there one day.

The difference is that Nas could potentially be a true star, in that he plays an exciting role, talented and offensive in nature, and could get bums on seats and be used in marketing etc. His ceiling is quite high, but he has a bit of a way to go too to get there… naturally for a second year player!

Paton had one of those stats anomalies back then where he'd beat his man more than most equivalent players. Can't remember what it was but he was rarely beaten when he was flying. 2020 he and Coffield looked like a very solid pair of smaller backs. Coff as an interceptor and Paton as a purely accountable small back with neat skills.

Not sure why there’s all this chatter about Nas leaving..he’s very happy at our club, the fact he hasn’t signed is a smart strategy. If he has a very good season he can negotiate a better contract.

So happy at our club that on one occasion last season he said he wasn’t coming back to VIC from a weekend in SA?
Show me another high level player who is into the second year of his rookie contract and hasn’t re-signed and ends up staying.
Unless Ross can totally change his thinking then he’s gone.
We as a club have already started the work behind the scenes with opposition players that may be able to be used in any potential deal for NAS.
I for one hope he changes his mind because I think he will be a very good player.

It makes sense to to wait until the season is finished to see where he is at - does he feel comfortable where he is at or not.
Hopefully his parents will help him with his decision , but it will all come down to how he is going at St Kilda.

Paton to me looks a lot stronger and back in the starting lineup with confidence will be a force.
Backline starting to look pretty good with Battle settled down back now.
Fully expect our backline to hold the Dogs today and our makeshift forward line to have a field day.

You better hope not , can you see them saying ,, Nas you should stay in Melbourne instead of coming home Yeah righto

Geez , don't want to sound picky but how can there be such polar opposite opinions on Nas , Some or One saying he is happy and others-MG saying we near had to drag him back from SA .
One is seriously getting dodgy info

It’s the nature of “ITK info” that often gets missed by some on here, especially those that target the posters who provide this information. Someone can receive “good info” whilst still being incorrect once everything plays out.

Unless someone has information from the player/coach/president, directly, then there are multiple layers of interpretation that the information passes through, before reaching the forum.

Take the example of Nas. Someone might post that he is set to sign up because they heard from a friend whose family member is a player agent that he is as good as signed. Now even if we assume that there was no malicious alteration to the information from the player agent, it could still be erroneous. Said player agent might be friends with Nas’ agent, who might’ve mentioned something in passing like “he has started to reconsider whether he wants to leave or not”, to which he sums up as “looks like he might sign” to his family member, who in turn takes the liberty of tidying up the information further by saying “he is about to sign”.

Language is very particular, but when you don’t know the actual facts the language is trying to convey, then any alterations that might otherwise be trivial could drastically change the content of the message. The poster is still giving information from a good source, but a victim of the alterations in language that occurred before they even heard it themselves.

And this is before getting into how things change rapidly in this space, with someone perhaps going the early crow with good news that ends up backfiring.

IMO, anytime you read a post with “ITK info” you should do so with the built-in preface that “this information is accurate as per what my particular source told me, at the time I heard it.

Thanks for your reply but im fully aware how things change and get twisted but the point i was making that when rumours are posted on here they are all somewhat similar with different time lines , not completely opposite as this case is , heck there was some so called ITK posting this week that Nas has already signed , we all know that is just complete BS as the club would not have one reason to hold back good press like that especially after last weeks good win.
The more good press the better for membership , pretty basic

Oh yeah, I’m aware you’re aware since you’re a regular poster. More of a general statement to the rest of the board here.

My best guess re: conflicting info on Nas would be that one side (presumably the “signed side”, given weight of numbers) was based on information that, itself, seems to have been largely extrapolated from a small tidbit of insider information.

I know its only one game but i watched Bergman today and he reminds me so much Allison , runs up and down the ground and doesn't get involved , if that's how he normally plays its a big no from me

But you have to agree if he has signed it would have hit the media by now ?

Stands off the play waiting for the easy ball.

Maybe both are correct to an extent. I have read here that he basically likes the club but not its location, I.e Melbourne not Adelaide.
We are built differently, NWM seems a top young bloke but his psychological make-up means he is only really comfortable with familiar surroundings, family and friends.
Contrast that to our other high draft pick from SA who looks all in at the club.

I feel for the kid, he is committed to his existing contract but seems he can't settle.
Pretty sad for us, I suppose a bit of cold comfort is the club is a good environment and has nothing to do with if he goes.

I’ll be spewing if we lose NAS, he brings something different to our lineup & I love the way he goes about it.

The loss would be far more palatable if we offset the loss by bringing in a very talented ready to go player, preferably an outside mid with good skills or a forward to help out King.
Neither SA club has the draft pick capital to trade, would need to be a player or a multi club trade scenario.

The info I here is positive regarding Nas..I, along with several others in our group, have been to a lot of training sessions & there is zero indication he’s unhappy.
Guess we’ll wait and see!!

I went to the game today & Bergman did ok but nothing special..won’t write him off though, as port were outclassed!
I do like Georgiadis but I’m a bit concerned about his work ethic.
Rosee was good, exciting to watch.

Haha, Matt Allison

Wasn't his best game today but he wasn't on his Pat Malone and he definitely was far from their worst. 5 score involvements on a tough day isn't awful.

As you say, it's only one game, probably best to judge him off a bigger sample size than that

You'll quickly realise he's nothing like Matt Allison. Allison looks lost at VFL level, I'd hate to see how he looked at the top level

We’re in agreement already here. The “he’s signed” comment can’t have come from an actual signing as it would’ve been long official in a media release by now.

It's not unusual for someone to be very happy at work, but miserable away from home. I dunno what's going to happen, I do hope he stays.

Think it speaks volumes about the club if he is miserable in Melbourne but (seemingly) enjoying his time at the club.

Amon still fits that bill imo- and would come cheap trade wise... and would be available you would expect now the hawks have decided to go full tank mode.

He makes excellent sense as a nas replacement target for just about every possible reason i reckon
