Coffield looked noticeably bigger at the start of each season. Has a bit of a Battle slim hips and big shoulders build. Hopefully not the reason his knees are struggling. Staying smaller and more mobile might be preferable unless he's playing as an intercepting third tall. His best bet is to turn into a running half back flanker.

His knees are fine.

He did a bad calf in the last session before he was due to be back in the ressies.

Now he’s back, fit & an emergency for Saturday night m.

And so? That’s how we get good depth. Besides, Coff playing means Sincs can go forward more of the time. Webster is great, but he’s also getting on a bit. You don’t just give away a #7 pick who has shown he’s got it.

Really its shown that pick#7 or pick #31 after 5 years in the system... this means absolutely nothing. The pick which we used means nothing after they have actually been recruited.

It's just the pride of the recruitment team to say, I didn't fluff it up.

The wry amusement i feel when i read remarks like this.

Was only 12 months ago they were absolute keepers, with star potential, blah blah blah
Clak was never going to make it
Opps damn phone, it wasn't meant for you, sorry

I would be shocked if a club offered Coffield an outright 2 year deal - especially if he doesn’t string together some good AFL games this season - which looks highly unlikely right now.

It’s a cut throat industry. You can’t keep holding players because of perceived talent. They need to get on the park and show it.

Which unfortunately Coffield hasn’t been able to and I’m huge fan of him. But a 1 year deal would seem more then fair
Well I hope the club don't think like you, he has plenty of talent as you said yet you're willing to offer one year, there are plenty of other plodders that need to go before him, at least he has shown he can play at the level unlike the others , you would spew if he goes and ends up as how a lot of us think he will end up

I think hunters best position is at half back but we seem to have that covered. Lacks speed and power out of clearances . Maybe if NAS progresses to midfield it might open up a position for him . Coff I hope we keep as don’t think his trade value would be much atm . If I was Billing’s manager I’ll definitely be calling around … again probably happy to keep as doubt any trade value.

It’s not so straightforward as 5 years in the system though.

Takes around two years for the majority of young players to really find their feet, add two years spoiled by injuries. Don’t believe you can just blanket it by throwing it all in the 5- year basket. Every case has its individual merits.

And generally speaking, admittedly not always, a kid taken at #7 is going to be better than a kid taken @31. Which is my reason for giving him a further go. One year, or two on average salary when you‘ve got many others who can go first, is not an unreasonable ask imo.

A 1+1 would be appropriate.

Particularly in that draft, there were players taken in the 60's who have better futures in the game than those two.

😂

I genuinely hope he gets a game tomorrow and holds his spot all year.

But there is no way we should be giving him a 2 year deal after almost 2 entire years lost to injury.

It is completely fair to put the challenge at the feet of Coffield to earn more then a year

People setting a high standard of expectation on picks 14, 3 and 7 who are in their physical prime years with ~ 100 games under their belt....

What a bunch of clowns

It's pathetic that our club has turned them all into worthless flops- that's the real story.
But you keep going focusing on the side show.

I have never been a Coff fan or thought he would become a gun but I would give him another year or two. I have always thought of him as an outside flanker type that doesn’t use is legs enough. Looked good as a 7th defender in 2020 but with the new 666 rule he won’t be able to play that role. A 3rd tall needs to be able defend tall, Coff has struggled playing tall in the past.

Whilst Gresh, Billings, Paton and Clarke are solid enough afl players I dont see them taking us to a premiership. I also don’t see the loss of them affecting us that much moving forward.

Let’s look at some young moneyball talent like Henry, Flanders, Hollands, Bryan, Dow, Grainger Barass, Ginnivan or James Jordan whilst hitting the draft. I even think we could target under valued players like Alex sexton who hits the scoreboard more than Gresh and would cost a lot less. Adam Tomlinson as a cheap Dougal replacement and spend some more dollars on midfield talent.

A lot of fans seems to think do nothing and waiting for under performing/injured players to come good is the best way to get better. That’s what we’ve been doing for the past 10 years.. We need to build an elite environment where everyone wants and needs to perform or they are out!!! The likes of Billings had 9 years in the system and is still a working in progress, that cannot happen anymore..

So gut the list, replace them through the draft or trade / recruit under appreciated players /hidden gems like Stocker, Cody, camaniti, after all, our best 4 players are either rookies or from other teams 1. Steele 2. Crouch 3. Wilkie 4. Sinclair

A seemingly growing number of people on here seem to think his best position is left right out !!

Ummm for the last ten years they've been trying to shorcut the system by drafting in ....spuds.
You need to take the long patient route, and it will be shorter.

Jesus you guys are like a bunch of Neil Mitchell listeners. Owens is looking high potential. He might become a star. Newcombe is already way ahead of him he's being talked about in the AA conversation. It has nothing to do with age. You don't get participation awards in footy.
hahahaha triggered much? just saying you cant judge a 19 year old vs a 22 year old, they're the most crucial years in football and a stupid pair of players to compare. At this point I'd still prefer owens, has more elite traits.

Owens and Dangerfield basically have identical stats at the same age - his contested work now is just about better than anyone on the team and he is 19 , he has even been thrown to the wolves into the ruck which shows the kid can do anything.
It's early days but after 27 games he could development into that Dangerfield / Fyfe game changer we have never had.
