Based on what?!?!?

This time 2 years ago Max wasnt even considered a top 40 play before Sydney swooped at 17 and made us pay up.

Rightly or Wrongly - we would match at anything other than pick 4.

I've looked at 2 phantoms, Cal Twomey had us matching a Sydney bid at 19 and ESPN Carlton at 31. Would imagine he was top 40 at a few more.

Ill take someone who can get the ball and kick straight over someone who can run a good 2km time trial anyday and also has a burst of speed and knows when to lead , footy iq shits over that other crap

Agree. But not if they can’t actually compete at the level because they are too fcked to run! They can’t just pick and choose when to go, not in the modern game.

Fair enough..... The national combine is the be all and end all.

Anyone care to discuss why we took Charlie Edwards at pick 21??? I mean this spud wasnt invited to the National Combine even though he had an amazing 2km time trial of 6:24 (only 13 seconds behind NED!).

Struggling to understanding the reasoning that all these draft experts have. I think the answer is that they know jack sh.......t, but waiting to confirm.
I shouldn't answer this given you'll come back at me no doubt.

The reason Edwards didn't get an invite to the National Combine is because he'd done nothing really significant playing mostly forward in the run up to the Nationals.

Only when the Sandringham Dragons top midfielders were required by Vic Metro for the Nationals did he get an extended run in the midfield and started to come more on the club recruiters radars, so not thought enough of to even make the VM preseason squad at the time nor the trimmed Nationals squad in the run up to the Nationals later let alone the final VM Nationals team. Hence he only got the state Combine invite despite Twomey and others calling for him to be a late addition.. The quintessential draft bolter.

We absolutely would regardless of cost. If another team grabbed the one father son we have been talking up for the past 3 years we would absolutely have to match.

Even if we don't think he is worth it - it is 100% worth it from a PR perspective.

If Geelong reached at 17, Sydney at 19, Richmond at 20 - you don't think we would match?

Doubtful, n9 doubt we'd reach to an extent, but if we have him at 40 odd on our talent order and he's bid at 20, I highly doubt they'd select him.

Not saying you dont need to be fit, but you dont need to be able to run 2km in 7 mins

I don't think the combine is be all and end all, a club tied player predicted to go 30+ is a very unlikely invitee in my opinion. Fattening up is somewhat of a concern though, but not getting invited to national combine isn't important as far as I'm concerned.

It is interesting though that yet another SA prospect that was highly touted before their draft year slides out to be almost not a main draft pick

Even if he wasn't tanking the last 6 months like a good boy, it didn't sound like he'd be a first round pick.

Same last year with Ashton Moir. And many others before that.

It's not great when the talent we rely on most seems to hit a development wall before they even reach 18

As an aside, saw Kornes running along the espy this morning with the rig out, very happy with himself
I run past him on the uni loop often (he goes clockwise, I run anti clockwise). He looks like a pre pubescent child with his shirt off. I have to restarian myself not to do the old Samoan sidestep when we pass.

2022 U16's National Champions to bottom in 2 years at the 2024 U18's Nationals

Exactly

It’s amazing this group went from U16s champs to barely winning a game within 2 years and that’s after adding the best bottom ager in the country Dyson Sharp

never trust anyone who runs the uni loop clockwise. Makes complete sense that Kane would do that.

Not really, nobody had Lucas Camporeale or Joel Cochran anywhere near the top 30 but they got invites to the National Combine.
