Yup, and more importantly, too scared to give underperforming, but talented kids the flick. Like, I get the Peatling deal mostly came out of nowhere, but that should be a position which costs you a third selection, not flexibility on the second. I also get some players do find a way to save their career from the scrapheap, looking towards Sholl and Bond this year.

That said, the Cook contract is the standout egregious one. That kid has not improved one iota in four years of being on a list.
You don’t think Cook improved this year?

Not in the slightest. It's numbers that are ok if you've just drafted someone and want them to sit at HFF for year 1, but for someone who has been a pro for four seasons, it's nowhere near par.

We are talking about a guy who (and I want to stress, is a 4 year pro so most of the catch-up in physical development is done seeing this is the typical breakout point) went at: 9.3 disposals/0.8 goals/0.4 GA/2.2 marks/**** all defense*. That's panic stations for a key forward level of bad, and Cook isn't even a key forward. Possibly the easiest delist we've had in years and we ****ed it.

*I've kept in his sub performances because he performed well the one time he started as sub.

Essendon fans online really losing their sh*t over the Mick Ablett comments on last night’s Fox coverage where he said they stuffed up & shouldn’t have traded pick 9 out for Kako, so much so Essendon fanboy Cal Twomey on his broadcast on AFL.com.au immediately fired back & was like “nah the bid would have come earlier if they had kept that pick” and the bombers fans have taken that as gospel.

Surely that reasoning is slightly questionable though considering in recent history no club has really been made to pay all that a high price - just look at Ashcroft, Lombard or Marshall last night. I would ask the question if I was in Bombers fans shoes why didn’t the club keep pick 9 & wait to see if the bid would come on the night? then you can look to do the trade with Melbourne or someone else. Like I said given recent history even if it was just a slight chance no teams would have bothered to bid before that pick they should’ve waited to see.

Reminds me of what Collingwood did with the trade with GWS 12 months out to get the points for when a bid on Daicos would come that ended up backfiring but doesn’t get questioned now due to the ridiculous quality of Daicos helping them win a flag.
I raised the fact ESS had been bluffed two weeks ago .....I'm surprised the ESS Board has been quite calm about the matter

Twomey is wrong ! ....just defending his ESS relationship

IF St Kilda were serious about bidding on Kako ...it means a) they would be prepared to take him, if Essendon didn't match .....b) they therefore, by extension, would have still bid on Kako after Essendon had traded out pick 9

St Kilda's intentions / actions were not impacted by whether ESS retained or disposed of #9

Will be interesting, as I think there could potentially be a ton of list turnover next year

Walker, Smith, Strachan, Burgess, Schoenberg very likely to go

Murphy, Bond on thin ice

Milera, Crouch, ROB, Taylor could seek moves, if they aren’t getting games/know they won’t get games in 2026/want to study in VIC (ROB)

Definitely could fit in three rucks if there’s enough list turnover
Bond on thin ice?

Given the likely turnover, he should be safe as offers a point of difference.

Yup Bond fits a niche and when called upon has done okay. Obviously plenty to learn but what he has to learn he will learn from playing AFL not more state league footy. The challengers to position are the small mids and the high HBs / wings. Clearly the club see Bond in a lock down small defender role - a role which nobody else is really doing unless you count Max M.

Then you better convince Port to take him because he wants to come back to South Australia, him and his brothers were on a brother's trip up in the NT a few weeks ago and he misses his family and getting to hang out with them regularly.

Essendon's offer would have to be life changing to get him to stay and I don't think they are that fussed with him any more
I wouldn’t be fussed with him either. Absolute horrid footballer. ROB shits on him. And that says a lot. Never change AFC.

It amazes me paid sports media can be so ****ing ignorant. Rowey is going on about us trading in to get Dodson. Ginever and the other bloke went along with it.

We don’t have a list spot you morons.
Who has a higher IQ out of Rowe & Nicks?

Shouldn’t be, but if he doesn’t get games he might be in the gun. One-year deal is always ominous, especially from us

Personally I’d keep him around for the next decade and play him if we’re requiring a real shut-down job

Seems to be a lot of dangerous small/medium forwards being drafted the last couple of drafts...

With Port having heaps of small forwards for example, he has a role for us when we play the sides with numerous forward half smalls as going in tall against them may be fatal
For me he will be a horses for courses selection when we need to especially lockdown on a player.

No way - Nicks has been smart enough to con our club into extending him after years down the bottom...that is Rhode Scholar level smarts
No, that's just a reflection of the idiots who reappointed him.
