Pick 17 - Carlton - Hamish Davis - 190cm Utility

This kid in the coming months I feel will move up many draft boards. Chatting to a few local watchers out here in WA and this kid is sparking some interest. He is an elite runner and his attributes were not completely shown in the WA state side. His output is increasing and he can kick a goal and play midfield minutes.
There were reports Carlton were sniffing around Hayward and this guy has those potential qualities. He should complement the likes of Harry and Charlie, a replacement for JSOS/Martin/Williams moving forward.
Strong overhead and on the lead and impacts the scoreboard often.
Monocle

Excellent choice :thumbsu: and a player who's merits I have been talking up on the WC Board.

Very underrated player, who I suspect if he lived in a Post Code that started with a 3, would have been more highly touted.

Pick # 18 - Sydney - Taj Hotten - Sandringham Dragons - Midfielder/Forward - 182 cm

Pick # 19 - Sydney - Alex Dodson - Sturt - Ruckman - 203 cm

Write ups latter, still got some stuff to do before I put my feet up.

PMBangers you are up.

Gold Coast Suns - Pick 20 - Alixzander Tauru

If I was just drafting from my rankings this would've been Gross, Jack Whitlock or Harry Armstrong, but all 3 players bring in skillsets that the Suns are already well stocked with, so going by the positional requirements sent to me by my dear friend Supersuns, I went for Tauru as a Sam Collins heir for the Suns future.

Tauru is a smidge short for modern day KPD's sitting at 193 cm but makes up for that with his immense athleticism, able to match it with genuine talls in contests with his leap and then beat them at ground level with his speed and decent disposal ability, and as a very worst case, I see him developing into a reliable lockdown player at the next level with the skillset for any task handed to him =)

This is the perfect reflection on how open I currently see this draft. Either that or without a heap of BF posters, the group think has dropped a little.
Not many people were talking about this kid, just noticed that Twomey and now you are talking about him and he was one of the better defenders I've seen recently. I had him high on my list and it is great to see him moving up the rankings in some circles.

This specifically? More a reflection on how Mraz and O'Farrell's injuries have allowed other defenders to rise rapidly imo. Mraz in particular caused a bit of sadness when he went down, navicular's are nasty

Harry-Armstrong.jpg
Pick 21 - Richmond - Harry Armstrong 195cm KPF

I had targets, but never thought i would get to slide one through to the keeper.
Very surprised he was still here and wrapped with this one, as it is a target im sure the Tigers especially 'should' be aiming for.
Harry is arguably the best contested mark/mark in the group and one of is not the best set shot goal kicker.
His leading patterns are excellent and so are his second efforts as well. He has the ability to always mark the ball or make sure it drops straight to the ground for the little fwds to pounce on, it's very rare for a defender to be able to punch it away as he always is on the move and leaping up to take it out in front at the highest point.
He is still growing and would be a nice addition to any forward line, especially the way his year and development is building, with bags of goals and excellent performance after excellent performance.

Next up is roos_fanatic08 for North

Smythe you’ve absolutely stitched me there!

Nonetheless North Select:

Pick 22 - North Melbourne - Isaac Kako - Calder Cannons - 175cm.

North have long been desperate for a goal kicking small forward who can also push up the ground and have an impact when kicking the footy inside 50. With Kako, we get that and so much more. In my opinion, this pick represents excellent value as Kako deserves to be pushing into that top 10 region due to his upside and his body of work this season.

Like our previous pick O'Sullivan, Kako has so many attributes that make him perfect for modern day footy: dynamic movement, agility, a zipping burst of pace, stacks of footy IQ, creativity, natural goal sense and all round X factor.

As a small forward, he zips around the contest like an energizer bunny often finding himself in dangerous locations. He is at home crumbing the ball at speed then snapping goals. Because of his X Factor, he has the ability to kick goals and impact the scoreboard from limited opportunities. No doubt his ground ball game is his bread and butter, but he is also really solid as a leading target, finding space to lead into and using his speed to create serperation from his direct opponents. Kako has spent plenty of time in the midfield this year at Coates League level where he is able to accumulate the ball and have an impact around the stoppages. Once again his ground ball efforts are a real stand out feature in his game. As a midfielder, he is very balanced, and despite being on the smaller side he has no worries competing with the bigger bodies.

The biggest critiques of his game would be his defensive application and his kicking consistency. At times, his defensive intensity can be lacking, but it is something that will improve once his tank matures. In fairness this part of his game has improved considerably compared to last year. He is more than capable of doing freakish things with his disposal, but sometimes he tries to do too much resulting in turnovers. At times he needs to display a little more composure when disposing of the ball.

As an AFL footballer, he'll be a small forward in that Tom Papley mould, who can be damaging at ground level, but also have the ability to push up as a high half forward to provide a spark around the stoppages.

Another exciting pick that will help fill a glaring hole on North's developing list!

Monocle WC are up.

Pick # 23 - West Coast - Cooper Hynes - Dandenong Stingrays - Midfielder/Forward - 190 cm

This was a very hard decision as the talent still there was pleasing, Hynes v Gross, Gross v Hynes.

Had wanted a tall defender and the two I like have injury worries that concern me, O'Farrell and the kid I really like Mraz.
West Coast cant afford a miss with this pick so I settled on Cooper Hynes, the tough as cats head, raging bull, as there is a lot I like about this kids game.

Going forward I think Reid, Ginbey and Hynes could well be the midfield "Three Musketeers" for the next decade.

Full write up latter.

Pie 4 Life Purples on the clock.

Fremantle selects Tom Gross (Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro)

Goalkicking midfielder who has been able to play a variety of roles this season. To me a point of difference at this stage and value all things considered.

Happy with the haul.

TDS7 is up next with the Giants

Now that you've had fun with the picks, in a vacuum, better to have our two best picks or give them up for Bolton?

If it goes like this might be better to keep them, but Bolton is a rare talent and it’s a pretty strong hand as is. In a good spot whatever you do. No real way to lose.

Pick 2 - North Melbourne - Finn O’Sullivan - Oakleigh Chargers - 182cm.

North continue to have a simple strategy of taking the best available talent at the top end of the draft. While there was a temptation to take a bigger bodied mid in either Josh Smillie or Harvey Langford, the athletic profile and running capacity of FOS was too good too pass up. FOS offers up a point of difference in our midfield with his ability to play on a wing or roll through the half forward or back line.

FOS has so many attributes that make him perfect for modern day footy: dynamic movement, agility, endurance, strength, courage, stacks of footy IQ and sound decision making. While he hasn't been able to display all these characteristics this year due to injuries, clubs are well aware of his high end potential and he has plenty of runs on the board as an underage player and through the under 16's championships. He'll have a good opportunity in the Coates League in the coming weeks to remind everyone of his talent.

As a midfielder, he finds the ball in and around the stoppages as both a primary ball winner and first receiver. He then uses his agility and movement to break clear from the stoppages. Once clear, he uses his elite decision making and skills to hit targets. Around the ground he is an aerial threat with elite overhead marking.

As an AFL footballer, I think he’ll start off as a hard running winger or as a half back and transition to becoming a genuine mid across the space of a few seasons. Considering his injuries this year and his slighter body type, he’ll be a slower burn, as he has to add some size to his frame so that he can withstand rigours of AFL footy.

An exciting pick who has leadership aspirations. I have no doubt he will develop into a top tier 200+ game player

Monocle West Coast’s pick!

Wow. Another mid for North.

Which they really don't need.

Can see why they may split their pick.
