Pick 27 - Hawthorn - Harry O'Farrell - Calder Cannons
196cm - Key Position Defender

A kid with the bones of a great lockdown defender. Has good ball use, great closing speed, and a frame that could fill into an absolute monster.

PMBangers for Gold Coast now.
Imagine getting our KPD with pies second that would be glorious!

Gold Coast select Harrison Oliver

Best available on my board and I think he represents unreal value here as a pretty well rounded defender. As it stands I actually, apparently controversially, like him more than Travaglia given his kicking, but it's only marginal

Pick 29 - Western Bulldogs - Angus Clarke - 189cm DEF

Angus is a run and gun defender. Showing quick feet, good hands and good defending skills he is used as the offensive ignition.
Generally takes the kick outs and is the player who’s hands the tall defenders get the ball into so he can run it up the ground or use his efficient and effective foot skills to distribute to the leading forwards. Loves to kick more than using his hands but it’s the little things that make him stand out such as his athletic traits, one percenters and dash.
He is a very reliable footballer who is as great above his head as he is below his knees and is not one to shy away from a contest. Has great range with his kicking whether it’s hitting short leads or finding the right target 50-55 meters away. With his link up play, long kicking and taking on opponents he is an 80-90 meter player each time he starts with the ball and would slot into the bulldogs team well

30 picks in, seems a good time for some non expert musings...

Good to see Angus Clarke get picked up inside the first two rounds. He was the one I was most keen on seeing where others have him rated. I have him top 25 and think he still has real scope for improvement to come.

Picking for Fremantle is an interesting one because there's just no way we're taking all these picks into the draft. If we somehow did I suspect we'd be more likely to target a key forward with either 15 or 24 than go for Trainor early. But on talent alone, it'd be a good draft haul.

West Coast's picks are also interesting. I really like Travaglia and I have Hynes in contention for Fremantle at 15. So both would be big ticks for me. But personally, I see them as a half back and a medium forward - which I understand is not what Monocle drafted them for. I wonder if West Coast's draft strategy will be just best available or if they perhaps need more of a focus on pure midfielders. They've got to be prime candidates to trade into the draft sweet spot of around picks 8-15 somehow.

Otherwise, Harry Armstrong was solid value at 21 as per my rankings at least. Sam Marshall and Harrison Oliver too.

Freo try to win trade week not the draft.

Port Adelaide will be taking Jesse Dattoli

Essentially there wasn't a standout talent left from my point of view, this part of the draft has an uncommon amount of evenness so there were a lot of considerations, so ultimately I just went with the best forward half ground level player left given that's what I hear Port Adelaide need

Pick 34 - Saints - Noah Mraz 198cm Key Defender

This kid has had to play a number of position across his junior years and sometimes it takes a while to lock down where he will play at AFL level. With is size, pace and ability to read the play, he looks like a natural defender at the moment. Very solid kicking skills for a man his size and that is almost what sets him apart from a number of the other talls at this point in the draft. Without his injury issues, we may have seen him move up a few draft boards and I can see a world where he is the second key defender taken in the draft.

Pick 29 - Ben Camporeale - Inside midfielder 186cm

One of the twins and is more of the inside player compared to his brother. Finds the ball and is great in close at the contest and has a well developed body and can power away from a contest. Is fine outside with his link up play and work rate to the contest a little like his father. Unless I am wearing rose coloured glasses, just does not have his dads kicking ability at the moment. This can be the only reason for his drifting in this draft pool. Carlton would have assumed a few years ago that we're losing our first pick for this kid, but many others have developed to his level and maybe slightly higher. He will be that Hewett, Cerra, Cripps, Kennedy styled replacement player long term. If he can improve his field kicking ability to a more serviceable level, he should have a long AFL career.

Pick 35 - Essendon - Jasper Alger - Oakleigh Chargers

182cm - Small Forward/Wingman

Alger has somehow gone under the radar despite showing some really exciting traits at the national championships kicking 5 goals over the 4 games which should have been more if he had converted better. He is deceptively strong overhead for his size often out marking much taller players with his leap and reach and his tackling pressure and closing speed is also a real feature of his game.

Alger should fit in well for Essendon giving them another dangerous goal kicking option but also a player with versatility, athleticism and a strong work ethic. In terms of quality I would have looked closely at Luke Urquhart who has some similar traits to Chad Warner.
