Having yesterday said l would puke if we traded our future 1st, I'd be happy to land Lalor and Smith whilst keeping Battle.
It'll be interesting to see if the AFL change the points system as mooted. That would virtually lock us out of trading up our 2ndRDP unless we could secure another one of them.

I really hate trading away future picks. I don't love this draft so losing access to next year would suck. Already a couple of next year's kids look pretty good compared to this year's crop. I reckon this draft crop starts at around pick 7 of last year's draft. Reid, McKercher and Sanders all look a better crop than this year's mids to me.

Jesus we’ve got knuckleheads complaining about trading out of 1 draft still losing their minds.

We literally have no-one in the 23 to 27 age bracket because we traded out of a couple of drafts to chase top ups. If you can't see a lot of the damage that we have to now backfill you aren't looking. The best thing we ever did was get rid of Gags, Trout and Lethers. They set us back 5 years. Stav is trying to say we won't challenge while any of the guys we chased are still listed except Snags.

Winning 4 or 5 of our last 9 and remaining in the bottom 6 would be a great result.

Get the high draft pick while winning some games and building some form for next year.
You just know everyone around us will tank and we’ll finish 9th….🙄

I guess that's the question with the little guys every time. Do they get opportunity to get inside as easily at AFL level. Plenty do but there is always that feeling like they are going to find life a lot harder with a bunch of 90kg 190cm mids crashing into them. I rate him and think he might be alright but if there is a bigger guy at a similar level you probably picks them.

I've been big on him since last year so not trying to down play him but better to be realistic too. He's got flaws as well as elite traits.
There are plenty of small mids who are guns in this league.

I think what bodes well for him is that he can win his own ball or being a 1st receiver.

I feel confident from what I’ve seen this year alone. He will make it at the level

I'm talking on a per possession basis. On average, his damage per possession is, by the eye and the stats, not as impactful as the other mids including Lalor. If you go by raw numbers, you'll have to expect him to be an accumulator at AFL level too which is a completely different discussion. He won't get that much space at AFL level

If you get the ball 50 times, and handball it to Brad Hill, Liam Henry, Jack Sinclair and Nasiah, its not very damaging , Oh well.

If we had balls, we'd trade our first round this year for a next year first round and a this year 2nd.
A current first round pick is always worth more than next years.

But we don't have balls. We are desperate, we've gotten up the courage to go into the brothel, and just because there's only a 40 year old cow available, we need it bad.

I have said the same thing. They are back in fashion a bit these days. To me Lalor is much more of the type we need but Jagga has been the player I wanted since I saw him last year. Just pointing out what his issues are. I don't think he's a set and forget player. He probably comes in and spends the first couple of years as a high half forward until he can get used to the pace. I think Lalor looks more like a guy who in couple years probably moves into the middle and takes over.

I'm happy to wait until I see a bit more before making a call on who I prefer now.

We also need to start getting players in and developing them.

Remember we used to have a special development section, they went of to resorts at Phillip island and did special development crap, was Leading Teams involved?
Might have even been under Watters.
Anyway.... Didn't work.

Our drafting was too crappy.

I’m not that impressed after watching him in two games and has Scott Watters vibes 🤣🤣

I thought he looked okay. Looks like he's going to play AFL at a decent level, maybe not as much top end as some of their last crop though.

I think the next coach who walked in after Lyon back then, was going have issues with a few sookie big heads who had the board around their little finger. Watters had some kind of player development system he was trying to put into place, but got white-anted out of the place. In his place we got plodder Richo for years- those guys really knew what they were doing.

The club's drafting has been an erratic mess for years anyway, and couple that with ordinary player development, no wonder we can't achieve great things, and dragging Lyon back is yet another move which will backfire.

There is a hell of a lot more to the story than what you just painted with Watters.

It ultimately starts and ends in respect. He didn’t have it. For the club or the champion players he inherited.

I remember he went to SEN to bag the club after they told him to stay out of the media. It was weird stuff.

Yeah.

He was told he was to coach. He reported to the director of football and he was causing so much shit behind the scenes.

Bitching and moaning and acting like he ran the place. Bad mouthing the pelican etc.

Effectively told the playing group something along the lines of not accepting mediocrity.

(he got there in 2012, after 2 seasons of being in the best 2 sides in the land and in 11’ we were effectively a top 4 side coming home from a poor start ala Brisbane this year)

He just didn’t give a **** and he was rubbing everyone the wrong way. The little midget - genuinely thought he was the king of the club. Just no respect for what had come before him.

The young blokes loved him. But they were genuinely the only ones he cared about.

Rooey Joey Dal BJ Chips Milney etc - not one good word to say about the bloke.

I met him a couple of times back then. He had an abrasive manner.

He’s ok but no superstar imo so with any luck he’ll attract a high bid and they’ll pay up. He lowers his eyes quite well and is neat with his short kicking but has had a couple of Henry like didn’t want to know about it wouldn’t put the body on the line or his hands down. Quite a surprise given he’s a solid unit and appears to be rocking a man’s body already.

Anyway you know what it’s like it’s a couple of games on tv, I can’t hear if he’s getting called out etc and people who are paid to watch these kids rate him but for me I wouldn’t pick him even if we could. Having said that he’ll probably go on and be a gun for them 🤣🤣.

If I get a chance I’ll watch the game today to get another look at some of the vic metro players.
