Does anyone know the return from having back to back picks? It just reminds me of the Essendon complete failed 2020 draft. I feel like having separation between your first round picks forces you to scrutinise the choices more. Leaning more toward splitting 8 if we get it at the moment.
how bout them apples

if you ever think about the bombers trio, have a think about this trio to make you feel better

Taking 8, 24 and F1st gives us plenty to deal with. The problem being strong demand for picks in the 10-20 range. I think if anything happens it'll happen on the night since clubs now target individuals and will pay handsomely. If we do it during trade period then it's us that pays the premium.

Apart from the player mentioned a couple of times in the thread. Do we know anyone else that we are into in the draft ?

Probably another reason we need to hold onto 24 and 43, they can be used to move up if a player we like slides.

Lalor and Travaglia are the main two. Few whispers we are into Alix Tauru.

We are also one of the teams interested in Mac Andrews brother, Riak.

Unless we take him stupid early, Melbourne will probably match a later offer.

How ridiculous was the Northern Academy talent in the Futures Game, thankfully the new NGA rules come in next year.

True if that was the best 50 odd players in next years draft then we could expect the next 10 premierships to come out of Sydney Brisbane GWS and GC. Fortunately the top 50 in next years draft will not look anything like that. There were 16 Victorians in that game no doubt come draft time next year there will be 30 - 40 Victorians picked. The Futures sides picked yesterday were not picking the best 50 players in the country rather they were the best 7 or 8 from each state.

So they won’t win the next 10 they will probably only win 5 of the next 10

Yes they have a huge advantage.

My wife's first cousin , once removed was playing in that game.

He was first scouted by the Lions when he was only 10. Very good footballer, but also in the top 3 sprinters of his age in the state. So both the Suns and Lions know what talent is coming in Qld from a long way out.

Later his Dad thought it would be better to swap to the Suns, and so he is now in their Academy.

I also heard it stated on the weekend that with the growth of AFL there, that Qld now have more registered players than SA now has

So that means that the Lions and Suns effectively have priority access now to a pool of players greater than SA. St Kilda have priority access to an area of just a few Suburbs, and then that is greatly limited as they have to come from either particular backgrounds, or not to have played AFL!

Even with the new rules coming in it is still a huge advantage to have priority access to basically a gun year in year out.

Stfan I wasnt aware of those stats - the AFL must be really booming up there. Its good for the game, but as you say perhaps its time their academy advantages were significantly wound back.

As I said yesterday after the Futures game Brisbane and GCS will have 2 or 3 of the top 5 ranked players again next year.

One thing about Brisbane is they have an extremely mobile team across all lines. You could argue their ruckman and Paine are the outliers but the rest are always on the move even their 200 plus blokes like Daniher, Hipwood and Andrews. No room in todays footy for brutes whether in the midfield or key positions that cannot get on their bike.

We are definitely on the right track prioritising players who can run in last years draft. Would expect us to do the same in this one.

Yep I certainly think so. Need to continue with the same recruiting strategy. Brisbane have a bunch of 6”2 defenders who are capable of playing on just about anyone and give them great drive. I was really impressed with Starsevich and Wilmot throughout the finals series in particular.

That's why we drafted Hastie last year and why Hofmann will be hopefully a nice and cheap draftee. Also Serong

Anybody think we probably are happy to give up 43 for Macrae and it’s all mind games because that’s exactly what we’re happy to give up.

Act like we don’t want to give up 43 finally negotiate that is the maximum we will give up and the dogs think they have a win while we only end up giving up for 43.

Jedi mind tricks at play.
