Lalor’s a ripper but do worry about his durability
Never done a football pre season.

Never done a full season of representative football.

His sample size is small. He is talented but you are strictly drafting him on his potential to be great not his proven form of doing so.

Boom or bust. Similar to Smillie.

The fabled Toce (Rip) had a ripper in 2022.

Hotton and Van Es delisted without playing a game.

Keeler now in a make or break season - still to debut.

Hopes high on Phillipou.

They all have these drafts. Why are you choosing (along with others) to beat one recruiter and not the other?
I have hopes for Gus McLennan…time will tell

Tigers - FOS
Tigers - Lalor
Blues - Draper
Crows - Langford
Dees - Reid/Armstrong
NM - Tauru
StK - Smith
StK - Smillie
Dees - Armstrong/Reid

It's possible.

We then talk to clubs in the back half about what it costs to jump back in the grab Allan, Trainor, Trav...

I like it.
Crows May like Langford but they LOVE Draper!!

Acceptable won’t necessarily cut it…we must go for best available and nail this draft
I chose my words carefully. Of course we want best available but there's a difference between what punters might think and what list management think. 3 years ago Nas wasn't on anyone's radar, then many including myself wanted others in front of Pou and so on.

Genuine question for those who love Reid, who do you think he projects out to play like?

I’ve heard Pendles, but he’s 190cm (Reid 180cm) and I think is more athletic then is generally recognised.
Reminds me of nick diacos with his creativity. I’m not saying he will be as good as him but he know how to find it and how to use it

I saw Trainor train with us earlier this year..really impressive and didn’t look out of place, great mover, clean in the air & ground level and a beautiful kick!
Then you can bet your house Ross won’t have forgotten him if that’s the impression he left.

Especially with the glaring need for someone like him

I’d surmise Hotton or Hynes
Or Lindsay if he drifts a little.

Draft night is going to be absolute box office for Saints supporters (did you see Richmond are selling $25 tickets to a Draft Party at Punt Rd?).

While we're throwing names around, Harrison Oliver is an interesting one... small defender wise we have the very unproven Gus & potentially Hoffman to replace JWeb. With the way the game is going with multiple small forwards playing a huge part in the most dangerous forward lines, maybe he's a chance if he's still on the board in the 40's.

(I'm putting Hastie & Nas aside as they play more offensive roles)

The same could be asked why you get so upset when someone points out Dalrymple's bad picks when you are also the first to point out any mistake Toce made.

Oh for sure.

I just wonder who Carlton traded up to get.

My initial assumption was FOS given the connection with Walsh but Draper could be the one given:

They traded up to get in front of Adelaide.
They need a player who will impact immediately.
They lack speed in the midfield.
They want to play Cripps forward more.

Draper ticks all the boxes of being able to make a genuine change to the way Carlton set up on ball.

I rekon they are gonna snipe him from the Crows leaving Adelaide with Langford.

Then it's down to what Melbourne do at 5.

They reportedly love Reid and they are keen on both Armstrong and Tauru. Assuming North are taking Tauru then the Dees could probably be comfortable letting Armstrong through to pick 9 BUT they run the risk of the Saints grabbing him as "best available" or trading down with another team that rates him.

So do they lock up their tall at 5 and take whoever slides out of Reid, Smith & Smillie at 9?

Richmond - Lalor
Richmond - FOS
Carlton - Draper
Adelaide - Langford
Melbourne - Armstrong
North - Tauru
St Kilda - Smith
St Kilda - ???

There is every chance we are getting Jagga Smith at pick 7 with a choice of Smillie, Reid, Allan or a trade at pick 8.

Also at the end of 22 we also picked up Caminiti, so Pou, McLennon and Hammer are prospects with Keeler still in development.
Still the OP stands, from the actual draft we have had one debut compared to 23 where ALL debuted including pick 50 and 62.

Because when it was discussed I clearly pointed out that we are landing a recruiter with a proven success of drafting stars.

The response was that NAS Pou Wilson are also all going to be stars. Dimple missed on Dylan Stephens blah blah blah

As more time has passed Toce did a good job with his first round picks at the Draft. Not a lot has come from anything else and Chad Warner Macrae Bont trump everything we have done in the last few years.

There is a reason why the Dimple was highly regarded across the entire league.

Anyway enough of this. Toce isn’t here anymore and there isn’t a need to discuss this further. He never got the chance to draft at another club to compare and he hypothetically wouldn’t have been here to draft for us.

The Pick Swap period finishes in a week (8th) what are the odds anything happens?

If anything is consistent with clubs trading it will all happen on the last day.....clubs dont want to be giving away their positions or conceding too early.

And opens up 2 weeks later on the day of the drafts.

Means nothing.

Other posters are allowed to discuss the good and bad of the people the club hire. If you cant cope with the acknowledgement of the bad picks, just scroll past it. No one is obliged to only discuss the perspective you agree with.
