'Hones in' might be a little strong of a description.

St Kilda and Melbourne will look at him later in the top-10 before then listing multiple clubs in the teens who like him and then mentioned he could be there until pick 17.
Yep, agree. but he does tend to write like this. It’s difficult to take any of what he wrote about any player and view at as intel! He’s very cautious. I suspect what he is alluding to is that if we keep 8 and Tauru is gone/we have taken a mid at 7, then he thinks Travaglia or Reid would be the pick.

The reason he has linked us (and so many other clubs) to so many players is because of the totally unknown outcomes of Pick trading.

Highly possible that 3 or 4 of the Top 10 picks might be live traded next Wednesday night which will have a massive impact on not only the Top 10 selections but also Picks 11 to 20.
This is his method every year. Very grey. I think if we could pull up one that was a week out in previous years that it would be written in a similar way.

I’m aware you can be well paid on the suburban circuit.

But you forgo that money for your chance to get on an AFL list and earn considerably more in 12 months time.

It’s a trade off. But if your good enough you’ll back yourself.
Just as easily back yourself at a club where you’ll play every week and earn a lot more. That or ply your trade in the sanfl or wanfl. A lot of the guns at suburban level have been through the tac and have matured and maybe won a league B&F. Now they are hard bodied men who know getting on an afl list is a pipe dream and so take the cash, the mates and a casual two nights a week training.

Kids straight out of the tac who missed out are unlikely to move the needle much at sandy and the hard bodied mature players who might make a difference just aren’t interested. Whoever came up with this didn’t think it through imo.

Anyway back to the draft Twomey was interesting in who he linked to us and who he didn’t think would make it to us. I’d be happy to stick with our picks, if he’s right you’d have to be very brave to trade out of 8 if jagga landed in your lap at 7. Could be some guns to add at 8 and I’m all for best available even more so if we land a gun mid at 7. If we trade back there’s no guarantees at all, a bird in the hand as they say.

Twomey last night said it’s more likely then unlikely north don’t trade pick 2.

Ralph had an article last night with quotes from north saying they will not reach for a tall as they took a few last year and it will be best available at pick 2.

So we are hoping Melbourne at 5 or Richmond at 6 grab Tauru.

You can only go off the latest chatter and that is the last 24 hours.

Those 3 are literally the links from this morning. You may prefer Tauru.

But the majority of posters and fans want a genuine midfielder
That 'chatter' still has North heavily linked to him, with Twomey mentioning them as the main club interested in him in his rankings this morning and Chris Cavanagh, the HS main draft guy, saying he's the only player industry people are linking to North.

More scenarios than not are linking him to North which is likely why almost every journalist is expecting one of those mids from the top group to be who we pick at 7.

Twomey loosely mentions about 10 players a possibilities for our two picks, as well as mentioned us bidding on just about every academy player. Nothing in that article suggests those 3 are more likely than anyone else we were mentioned alongside. It doesnt mean those 3 are THE 3 are will pick between at pick 7.

And I cant believe that this needs said, but it does not matter what posters and fans want. Our options are completely irrelevant. I don't know why that is even being mentioned as if it's something that will be considered when making the pick.

Get your head out of your ass.

It’s perfectly acceptable if we don’t walk away with a genuine midfielder that fans would be upset.

It’s chasm of a hole in our side that anyone from journos commentators fans and the local bakery owner can see.

To be sold the dream of development after being burned in the past with a very similar situation - isn’t a great starting point.

A supporter and posters on here don’t need to happily clap at everything the club does.

I was okay with losing Battle for the pick.

But my personal point of view is that I won’t be happy walking away without a genuine midfield talent to rival the talent we have across other lines.

They have the currency to move up and ensure they get what they want.

Melbourne and Carlton have both out manoeuvred us in this trade period.

I’ll leave it at that.

Lol, no one said fans couldn't or wouldnt be upset if we didn't take a mid. People can feel whatever they want about whoever we take.

But saying this boards opinion on who we should draft is completely meaningless because it has zero bearing on what the club will actually do is not happy clapping. That phrase has lost all meaning at this point with how frequently people bring it out these days.

Not sure whether anyone has noticed this, but our Sandy rookie draft player could well be Peckett. Sounds like double dipping to me but at least we don’t need to waste a pick on another Sandy player that we don’t want or need just to fulfil that agreement.

wouldnt that put Sandy's 'nose out of joint'?

I really dislike this must pick a player from Sandy deal.
It actually makes no sense.
Even if we had a gun that we wanted wouldn’t other teams be able to access them anyway?
So what’s the point.

however, when it was announced. most on here thought it would be a good thing.

The boards/fanbases opinion is relevant as they keep the club accountable.

The club doesn’t have a proven history of being the smartest entity in the room over a period of time.

So if everyone can see we need genuine midfield talent and pick 7+8 are used on: a third tall and a half back flank they HOPE will transition into the midfield because he has nice attributes.

Then it’s entirely relevant how the supporter base will feel. Otherwise shut places like Bigfooty down.

Again, the club got a win with the Battle decision. But simultaneously the club has been out manoeuvred by Carlton (p3) and Melbourne (p9) in its bid to give itself the best draft hand.

It’s now in a position where we sat very comfortable that one mid makes it to 7 which has now turned into hope a kid does - partly due to Norths inability to operate as a functional football club and successfully acquire picks to take the talent they need.

Hmmm… interesting players linked to us by Cal

Twomey has said he’s found it a lot harder to work out his mock draft this year compared to other years due to the evenness of the draft and teams having multiple picks. I wouldn’t be 100% confident in his mock draft at our picks come Monday when it drops.

I get the feeling Twomey is having a hard time judging our picks. Lists us as a chance of taking the following players with 7/8:

Jagga
Draper
Smillie
Reid
Tauru
Armstrong
Allan
Travaglia
Lindsay

This is good for the trade value of #8. I think there will be a twist or two on draft night. Will be good fun.

As I said on the previous page.

Watching him nail the first 7 live picks. Considering that he is saying North will only slide down to p4

8 is the point I think a trade comes in from outside that group and it goes wild.

The club got what they wanted for Battle, now have been "outmaneuvered"

Time for the victim mentality to stop

I'm happy with pick 7-8

Pick the best available, don't go crawling to other clubs to "help us"... cause they won't

If we are sitting at pick 8 and it's between Armstrong or a mid and the club rates Armstrong the highest, the last thing they should be doing is considering the option of the fans. SOS isnt going to turn to the room and say "Look, I know we project Armstrong to be best available but a couple of posters on BigFooty think we need mids with 7 and 8 so we should pass on him and draft a mid we rate lower".

They dont care and shouldn't care about whatever disgruntled posts come the day after the draft. The opinion of amateur draft watchers and il-informed fans is the last ones they should be taking into account.
