In Gettable he said it’s unlikely Smillie would get through 7+8 - but it could happen.

You would imagine all hell has broken loose if that occurs with respect to the expected draft order.
Buckle up bro, I think this draft is going to be insane, that second pick makes me feel we will get stupid offers, ala Freo selling the farm for Bolton.

Only when Tauru goes before us we get one of those mids, if we deem them worthy. If he doesn't go, he has superstar potential, so we pick him. Let's not get sucked into the mids need, if Wayne Carey was in the draft, would we overlook him because we need a midfielder? You take the best player, if we don't we should sack the whole recruitment team and bring Team Big Footy In, we know more than the experts!
Oh I really like the look of Tauru. Allan/Reid is the problem

Aaron Naughton is the cousin of a very well known Saints poster on here, even he didn't rate him at our pick in that draft!

i thought his championship year was extremely good. i think we had tunnel vision for mids.

one of the best championship year for a KPD that i can remember.

We have no other choice. Any player we recruit via rookie draft or SSP is going to have deficiencies - they are state-league players for a reason

As long as he can compete and give our mids first use more often than not without being an on-field liability, I’m happy
I believe if Dodson is there we will pick him. However, with Richmond owning the draft, they could take him at any of their picks.

is that the same WA bubble where Liam Ryan was no good, Charlie Cameron was small fwd we didn't need, Barrass was a slow tall KPD better left at East Perth, Aaron Naughton was another defender we had a litany of and Ian Hill was a GWS bust?

Didn't someone on here have an early line on McGovern? Or was that on saintsational? I forget now, getting old.

Jagga smith wasn’t completely canned by Twombstone on gettable it was a if he made it to saints we couldn’t punch out the numbers quick enough albeit extremely slim. Mentioned Tiges haven’t done much work on Draper and if Adelaide trade up with north (unlikely) they could target a vic mid. Langford next to no chance as Adelaide dees and Tiges looming. Smillie comes into the draft at 6 (every club believes that’s where he is going) north ‘strongly’ linked to tauru I think they just grab him wether it’s 2 or 4 they will claim it’s best available. Murphy Reid will be in our sights. If we go tall it’s Armstrong.

Some players look great on paper but don't show it on field. Getting seduced by testing is fools gold. He doesn't look slow when you watch him.
Hopefully Dalrymple learned that lesson with Dylan Stephens who had a great combine from memory.

A Jagga / Reid combo sounds good to me

You can get things horribly wrong as a recruiter by not learning your lessons.

You can also get things horribly wrong by trying to not make the same mistake twice!

Tough gig, so much at stake - and rarely comparing apples with exactly the same kind of apples. Reid is such a tough call - but one I'd be prepared to make alongside another mid at 7-8. If it's Tauru/Armstrong and one mid, will be a really hard call.

Highly unlikely but it would be nice. Twomey said more likely to keep 7/8. I think Reid is one of them
Reid doesn't do anything for me, but if we pick him he was the best player in the draft and an absolute steal :)
He's also a Sandy boy which mitigates the go home factor, Vic Metro MVP and Harley's 9th cousin by marriage via Ireland.

Because its about percentages - albeit very subjective. The expected output of the player given a perception of their ceiling and risk factors

It's been well-known for literally months that there is a clear top 6 of midfielders. It's not by choice or by biases that this has occurred...its simply what everyone in the industry is saying. To miss out on all of them is disappointing no matter how you want to put it

I'd say its comparable to the feeling you get when you beat 2024 West Coast by 10 points. Sure, its a win, but you are left with a sour taste because you are not fulfilled
What absolute twaddle

If there's a world Lalor doesn't get picked at #1, do we desperately trade up with North?
I am starting to think this is why North are actually holding out. They have one player that they're prepared to take before Tauru, and I'm guessing it's Lalor.

If Lalor goes at #1 then pick #2 gets traded.

If worst case we end up with Reid and tauru is that the end of the world?

There's clearly a lot of people who rate Reid and tauru looks a really promising tall.

I know we need to fix the midfield but a f1 for a late first/20s and it might be a good outcome.
Tauru scares me. I rate him but I don’t rate him that highly, he reminds me of aiden bonar a few years ago and I really didn’t want him that year either. He’s clearly highly talented but you also want to see some sort of high production from someone that high up in the draft. Had plenty of games where he did absolutely nothing (averaged 6 disposals across the champs) he also could be anything tho so I would back our recruiters in if we took him that high: I would prefer others

Agree. Not ideal but what can you do.

Atleast we got the four points in round 24 ay
Ive got an idea for next year. How bout we just loose every game - guarantees us pick one and I'm sure none of our young guns would see it as a negative and want out, and if they did we might end up with picks 1, 2, 3, 4 ..........

I suggest you Re listen to gettable.

“I just don’t see him getting to Stkilda at pick 7”

Bonar straight up couldn’t play I was so against drafting him. Tauru on the other hand looks a real talent.
